the murder of Rachael Runyan and the Amber alert
The murder of Rachael Runyan is an unsolved child murder which occurred in Sunset, Utah, on August 26, 1982, when a three-year-old girl was abducted from a playground and murdered by an unknown individual. Her body was found three weeks later in a creek bed in nearby Morgan County. One of Utah's most notorious cold cases, Rachael's murder ultimately proved a catalyst to establish the "Rachael Alert" child abduction alert system, which remained in use in the state of Utah until 2003, when the state adopted the national AMBER alert child abduction emergency alert system. The abduction and murder of Rachael Runyan was a factor in the 1983 passage of the US Congressional Missing Children's Act, which mandated an allocation of additional resources for the investigation of ongoing missing children cases. In 2017, the Rachael Runyan Missing and Exploited Children's Day was signed into legislation in Utah. The purpose of the annual observance is to raise public awareness of missing and exploited children within the state; the annual awareness date is August 26, the date of Rachael's abduction. Runyan's abduction and murder remain unsolved.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/missing-miles-missing-unsolved--5942583/support.

Who Murderd Shannon Denise Madden
On July 20th into the early AM of July 21st, 2000, Shannon Madden was walking with two acquaintances (a man and woman) near the 2700 block of Bracy Road in Little Rock, AR at 2:30am when reportedly there was an altercation of some kind and the other two individuals left Madden behind after she reportedly told them she was taking a break and would 'catch up' to them. Within 45min, Madden was struck on the roadway by a vehicle and killed. Her immediate cause of death was head and neck injuries.https://www.facebook.com/groups/truckstopmrdrandtruecrimehttps://www.instagram.com/truckstopmurder/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKXs4CjSF4xKCTmynFsKwSghttps://www.patreon.com/[email protected]/[email protected]://www.facebook.com/missing.miles.2023https://truecrimepodcastfestival.com/addressGary Howard2740 N. Tamla Horsford
On November 4, 2018, Tamla Horsford was discovered dead in the backyard of the Cumming, Georgia, home where she had been attending a slumber party with other "football moms" the night before. The 40-year-old was a mother of five. The Forsyth County Sheriff department initially ruled the death an accident, stating that the "multiple blunt force injuries" were related to Horsford likely falling from the balcony due to "acute ethanol intoxication". A second autopsy requested by her family revealed further abrasions to her body. The family's attorney also stated that lack of evidence, types of injuries discovered, and mismatched witness accounts strongly suggested homicide. On February 20, 2019, Major Joe Perkins of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office announced that the case would be closed and that there was no evidence of foul play. The relationship between Horsford's race and her death has been a subject of controversy and debate and a race-based dimension to her death has been implied by family and media. While the official investigation concluded that her death was accidental and not racially motivated, some have argued that her race played a role in the events leading up to her death and in the investigation that followed. The case did not receive public recognition until two months after her death, when one of the witnesses was fired from his county court officer job for internally accessing the incident report. The case, along with the hashtag #tamlahorsford, quickly spread around the internet, along with suspicion of foul play. In the summer of 2020, the nationwide protests against racism and police brutality sparked by the murder of George Floyd renewed public interest and advocacy of the case. Under the pressure of public outcry, including posts from celebrities such as T.I. and 50 Cent, the Forsyth County Sheriff requested that the case be reopened and investigated by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/missing-miles-missing-unsolved--5942583/support.

Some agencies may spell Bethany's middle name "LeAnne." Her hair was styled shoulder-length with bangs at the time of her disappearance. Bethany has a mole on her left breast and freckles on her cheeks and nose.Details of DisappearanceBethany's parents, Larry and Johnie Jo (sometimes spelled "Jonnie Jo") Markowski, separated in January 2001. The couple's split was reportedly bitter. Bethany resided with her mother in Nashville, Tennessee afterwards. She spent several days with her father at his home in Gleason, Tennessee in early March 2001.Bethany and Larry were scheduled to meet Johnie Jo at the Waverly, Tennessee exit off of Interstate 40 during the afternoon on March 4, 2001. Bethany and Larry apparently spent part of the day in Little Rock, Arkansas, then drove back towards Tennessee. They stopped at Old Hickory Mall in Jackson, Tennessee at approximately 3:30 p.m.Larry told authorities that Bethany entered the shopping center alone while he slept in the vehicle. He awoke approximately one hour later and searched for his daughter in the mall. He alerted law enforcement at 5:15 p.m. when he could not locate Bethany. She has never been heard from again.Investigators said that Bethany is not seen on the security camera videotapes filmed at Old Hickory Mall on March 4. There is no proof that she actually entered the establishment. Larry has stated that he is not involved in his daughter's disappearance, but authorities have questioned his version of events. Johnie Jo said that she only wanted Bethany to return home.Several witnesses saw Bethany in the company of an unidentified Caucasian female shortly after she disappeared. A sketch of the woman is posted with this case summary. She is described as being approximately 42 to 44 years of age, 5'4 to 5'5 and 185 pounds.Witnesses said that the woman had dark circles under her brown eyes and her blonde hair was clean but frizzy and damaged. She appeared to be unkempt, like she had not bathed, and her shoes were torn and incorrectly tied. The woman may have been suffering from a hangover.Authorities stated that the unidentified woman attempted to enroll Bethany in a southeastern Tennessee school in April 2001, one month after Bethany was reported missing. The woman was later observed boarding a bus with Bethany. Investigators believe that they may have traveled to Moline, Illinois.Authorities said that they have not ruled out either of Bethany's parents as suspects in her disappearance. Investigators have also said that it is possible Bethany was abducted by a stranger. Brown hair, brown eyes. Pflum's ears are pierced. She wears contact lenses.Details of DisappearancePflum left from her family's residence in Connersville, Indiana on March 28, 1986. She planned to retrieve her purse, which she believed she left at a party the previous evening. She asked multiple friends as well as her sister to accompany her to the site of the party, some farmland, but none of them could go so she decided to go there alone.According to the tenant of the farm where the party was held, Pflum never arrived arrived at her destination, although a friend reportedly saw her at 2:00 p.m. at a Fashion Bug store on 30th Street. She didn't have any identification when she left home, or the carrying case or cleaning solution for her contact lenses. She has never been heard from again. The following day, a farmer from Glenwood, Indiana reported that Pflum's cream-colored 1981 Buick Regal, which was registered to her parents, had been locked and abandoned alongside Tower Road, a rural gravel road east of Glenwood, since between 12:30 and 1:15 p.m. the day she went missing. This spot was all the way across the county from where she lived, and three miles from the party site; her family can't think of a reason why she would have gone there. There were no indications of a struggle at the scene.Shawn M. McClung was Pflum's ex-boyfriend and had previously claimed Pflum was still alive, but in July 2020, during a three-hour interview, he confessed having killed her in March 1986. A photo of McClung is posted with this case summary. At the time of his confession, he was in jail on two unrelated cases. He made his confession in exchange for a promise of immunity for his statements and dismissal of the two unrelated charges. But McClung refused to lead the authorities to Pflum's body, and the agreement that would give him immunity required him to not withhold any information. As a result, he did not receive immunity for his confession and he was charged with voluntary manslaughter in Pflum's presumed death. At the time of his confession, McClung was suffering from a terminal illness. He died in September 2020 at the of 56, just months after he was charged in Pflum's case. In the hospital, five days before his death, he told his lawyer that he didn't know what had happened to Pflum and had only confessed to killing her because he wanted to get out of jail.Pflum was a senior at Connersville High School at the time of her disappearance; she was involved with volleyball, basketball, softball and track, and was a member of the National Honor Society. She had already been accepted to Miami University in Ohio, where she planned to major in microbiology and hoped to get a track scholarship.Authorities have never recovered Pflum's body and it's unclear whether McClung was in fact involved in her disappearance. The unsolved murder of Juan Leon Laureles
Juan Leon Laureles, known to his family as Leon, was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend. His life was marked by selflessness and kindness, even in the face of personal challenges. As the youngest of nine children, Leon took on the responsibility of caring for his ailing parents from a young age at their home in Brady. By the time he was 14, he held a driver’s permit and diligently drove them to appointments, picked up their medications, and managed the household. Despite the weight of this responsibility, he never complained. It was simply something he accepted as his duty. Growing up, Leon shared a close bond with his niece, Arlene Harbison, who was nearly three years younger than him. They were more like siblings than aunt and niece, playing together in the high school band and dancing the night away at local dance halls. Leon’s taste in music leaned toward pop, and his favorite artist was Madonna. At the time of his tragic death, his favorite song was “Because You Loved Me” by Celine Dion, a poignant choice that would later be played at his funeral. Leon’s kindness extended beyond his family. He moved to San Angelo to assist Arlene with her firstborn child and later relocated to Brownwood, where he continued to support his family. During the day, he cared for Arlene’s sons, and at night, he worked at the Kroger grocery store. His coworkers knew him as a gentle giant who stepped in whenever someone needed help. Leon’s generosity even extended to birthday presents for his colleagues. The news of Leon’s death shattered Arlene’s world. On that fateful day, around 2:30 a.m. on May 10, 1996, her cousin called with heartbreaking news: “Someone killed Leon.” The weather matched her grief—a gray, rainy day that felt like “God’s tears” because Leon was such a good person. Speculation surrounds the circumstances of Leon’s death. Some believe that being gay in 1996 West Texas may have made him vulnerable, while others think he witnessed something he shouldn’t have. Regardless, one truth remains: his death was no accident. As the 25th anniversary passes, Leon’s family continues to seek answers, hoping that someone with crucial information will come forward. Leon Laureles, a caring uncle, devoted friend, and Madonna fan, left an indelible mark on those who knew him. His memory lives on, and the fight for justice persists. Someone out there holds the key to unraveling the mystery of what happened to Juan Leon Laureles, and perhaps someday, the truth will prevailBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/missing-miles-missing-unsolved--5942583/support.

The keys were inside the vehicle, as was her purse and other belongings. The Missouri River was iced over at the site where Kuschell's car was found. Authorities noted some holes in the ice, but couldn't say whether these were related to Kuschell's disappearance. Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/missing-miles-missing-unsolved--5942583/support.Details of DisappearanceBritton was last seen in Covelo, California on February 7, 2018. She was visiting a friend in the 23000 block of Airport Road that night when, according to a witness, Britton's ex-boyfriend, Negie Tony Fallis IV, and his new girlfriend, Antonia Bautista-Dalson, pulled up in a black Mercedes.Fallis was armed with a small Derringer pistol. He went to the door of the house and demanded that Britton come out and speak to him. A physical altercation ensued and Fallias chased Britton around the car, which was being driven by Dawson. Fallis hit Britton and shoved her into the car, and Dawson sped away with them all inside. Britton has never been heard from again.Photos of Fallis and Dawson are posted with this case summary. Fallis's relationship with Britton was tumultuous and he was known to be abusive, and they had recently broken up. He also has a history of domestic violence charges related to other women.About two or three weeks before Britton's disappearance, Fallis had attacked her with a hammer and attempted to abduct her in an incident very similar to her later kidnapping. Britton filed a complaint against Fallis for this, and due to his prior criminal history, could have gone to prison if convicted in this incident. However, only hours before her disappearance, Britton went to the police and said she didn't want to pursue charges. Her family believes Fallis coerced her into doing this. The witness to Britton's February 7 kidnapping did not come forward with their story for several days, until after Britton's family realized she was missing. Ten days after she was reported missing, Fallis was charged with assault, kidnapping, first-degree burglary, threats to commit a crime resulting in death or great bodily injury, attempted murder, and being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition in Britton's disappearance. He pleaded not guilty and refused to cooperate with the investigation into Britton's disappearance. In June, the authorities were forced to drop most of the charges against him for lack of evidence. His bail was reduced and he was released not long afterwards, although he still faced the charges of possession of gun and ammunition. In August, Bautista-Dalson was arrested for felony suspicion of harboring or concealing a wanted felon, Fallis. In October 2018, Fallis pleaded no contest to being a felon in possession of a firearm, and Bautista-Dalson pleaded no contest to being an accessory to a felony. Fallis was sentenced to four years in prison, and Bautista-Dalson to eighteen months in jail and eighteen months of supervision. She was ordered to have no contact with Fallis and to spend six months in an inpatient drug rehabilitation program. Both the police and Britton's family believes she was murdered, and Fallis remains the prime suspect in her case. Authorities hope to find Britton's body

FORT WORTH MISSING TRIO.
The Fort Worth Missing Trio refers to an unsolved missing persons case in which three girls – Mary Rachel Trlica, Lisa Renee Wilson and Julie Ann Moseley – went missing while shopping at the Seminary South Shopping Center in Fort Worth, Texas, on December 23, 1974. The car that the girls had been driving was left behind in the parking lot at the mall; the girls themselves have not been seen since. The case shocked the Fort Worth community and left the families of the girls to adjust to life without their children. Thousands of leads have been followed, dozens of searches completed and hundreds of people interviewed. All attempts to find the girls have proven fruitless.https://truecrimepodcastfestival.com/https://www.facebook.com/missing.miles.2023Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/missing-miles-missing-unsolved--5942583/support.
