In our debut episode, we’re joined by Lucelle Bonzo. She’s the executive director of Davao Today, a daily online news outlet based in Davao City in the Southeast region of the Philippines. Davao Today is recognized for its extensive coverage of the rise and transformation of Rodrigo Duterte, as he rose to power from serving as the mayor of Davao City to becoming the president of the Philippines. The administration was infamous for its campaign of extrajudicial murders across the nation, carried out in the name of a drug war, as well as aggressive tactics to suppress and discredit critical news organizations.
