Episode 27 Setting the Pace: Why Your 2026 Sports MOM Goals Matter!!!

MOMs Running Point is back and Season 3 kicks off with Sports MOM Goals 2026. In this episode, host Tawa Dortch revisits the importance of setting goals—not just for our athletes, but for ourselves as sports moms. Instead of covering multiple goals, Tawa dives deep into one unexpected and challenging goal: training for her first full marathon. What began as a personal challenge quickly became a powerful lesson in discipline, consistency, recovery, coachability, and grit—modeled in real time for the athlete watching from the sidelines. Through honest stories, humor, and reflection, this episode reminds moms that our kids are watching how we handle hard things. Setting goals isn't about perfection—it's about showing up, pushing through, and leading by example. Because the sports mom journey isn't a sprint—it's a marathon.

Episode 26: Reclaiming Moms Sideline Smile

Somewhere between sign-ups, try outs, and endless tournaments, the fun we once felt at our kids' games can quietly slip away — and sometimes, without realizing it, we Sports MOMS help it happen. In this episode of MOMs Running Point, I share a personal "sideline face" wake-up call, the surprising difference I felt watching a friend's child play, and why that matters for our own kids' joy.  We'll break down three ways we might be unintentionally adding pressure — turning sports into a job, showing up with unspoken expectations, and making every game feel like the "only chance" for their future. Then, we'll flip it around with three practical ways to put the fun back in the game — for them and for us. Because when joy takes the lead, everybody wins.   Thanks for listening to MOMs Running Point. Episode 23 Siblings- Built in Teammates

On this episode of MOMs Running Point, we're tackling one of the most powerful relationships in youth sports — siblings as teammates. I'm joined by the incredible Svonnie Dalcourt — powerhouse event planner and proud mom of two standout basketball players who both played Division 1 Basketball ( Houston University and University of Louisiana) and now play profressionally in Europe. We dive into the heart of the episode FAMILY: how her sons, Corey Davis Jr. and Jalen Dalcourt, built a bond that not only defied sibling rivalry but became a foundation for mutual growth, motivation, and lifelong connection. Svonnie shares her wisdom on raising boys who sharpen each other like iron — on and off the court. We unpack how personality differences can become strengths, how to encourage sibling unity without comparison, and what it looks like to support individual paths while celebrating shared goals. Whether you're raising one athlete or a house full of them, this conversation is packed with encouragement, truth, and tools to help you raise not just good athletes — but great teammates.

Episode 17 More Than An Injury Part 1

More Than an Injury, delves into the often overlooked mental and emotional aspects of recovering from an injury. Rene Pistorius highlights with me how the recovery journey is filled with frustration, stress, and unpredictable ups and downs. The episode emphasizes the invisible side of injury — the mental toll it takes, including anxiety, stress, and fear that can accompany physical recovery. Additionally, it touches on the guilt parents, particularly mothers, might feel when their child is injured and the emotional pain of watching them struggle (part 2 dives deeper into the emotions of parenting through injury).  Throughout the discussion, advice is shared on the importance of having a strong support system, maintaining communication and a social circle.  All of which can make all the difference in navigating both the physical and emotional challenges of recovery.     Thanks for listening to MOMs Running Point. Episode 12 Part 2 Cultivating College Readiness

In Part 2 of Cultivating College Readiness, Deedee and I continue our conversation on important areas our young athletes need to focus on while in high school, so they can be fully prepared to enter college as student athletes. We talk about Advanced Placement Classes vs Dual Credit Courses, and give suggestions on how your athlete could approach these opportunities.  Listen in as Deedee shares her son's strategy, and how he took the lead in this area of his academic career.   Deedee Brown-Campbell the Senior Associate Athletic Director at Texas Tech, doesn't miss the opportunity to pour into MOMs about the amazing student athlete centered programs in her Athletic Department and most others in the NCAA.  Instilled to help your son or daughter find balance, support and succeed as a whole. Thanks for listening to MOMs Running Point.  Grab your notebook to write down some of the questions to ask High School Counselors, Athletic Academic Advisors and Student Affairs Departments. Game Ball: Jack Tuttle receives my game ball this episode for his wise decision.  Less than a month ago Tuttle retired from college football citing concussions and other health concerns.  Tuttle was the starting quarterback for The Michigan Wolverines and saw the big picture and retired instead of potentially jeopardizing his health for life.  I give the game ball to Tuttle for making a really tough decision, I'm assuming amidst a lot of pressure and expectations.  Technical Foul: Following the game ball's amazing decision to take precautions due to a concussion, I give my technical foul to ALL staff involved in the decision to allow Tua Tagovailoa to continue to play after he sustained an obvious concussion in game.  Anyone who sustains a brain injury like his, in that moment is not able to make the RIGHT decision for themselves, who's call is it really, coaches, trainers? Supposedly it's the Head Team Physician, who is appointed and not hired by the team that makes the call.  I'm wondering where the disconnect happened for Tagovailoa's well being.  I wish someone would have stood up for what was right, and not let him continue to play in multiple games, when he clearly wasn't okay.  MOMs protect your babies, it's not okay for someone with a dog in the race to make a decision for them, especially something this big.  Who's on the sideline determining if your child keeps playing after a hit to the head, or a time out injury.  Advocate for your athletes MOMs. Connect with MOMs Running Point:  Follow MOMs Running Point on Facebook Follow MOM's Running Point on Instagram Click here for the MOM's Running Point Newsletter

MOMs Welcome to Cultivating College Readiness Part 1.  Dee Dee Brown-Campbell, Associate Athletic Director and SWA joins me again as we put a spot light on her Department at Texas Tech and their role in student athlete development.  What does that mean you ask?  It means each Athletic Department across the NCAA, has an entire division that staffs & focuses on student athletes' success off the courts, fields and arenas.  Through-out this discussion we highlight the subtle differences between College Admission and NCAA Clearing House Requirements (NCAA Guide for College Bound Student Athletes), and how your high school GPA and Standardize test scores could impact your athletes' admissions.  If your high school athlete has eyes on playing in college, check out this episode and your family prepared and avoid surprises.  Once again we had too much information for one episode.  Part two of Cultivating College Readiness will be available November 10th, 2024.  Mark your calendars!!!
