I got me a big buck! I feel quite fortunate, as I was able to get my hands on a Colorado reissue tag and do some early rifle deer hunting. Put in 4 days of scouting, found a good one, and then had a great hunt in an awesome place.

So just a few weeks ago, I had no rifle tag for the year. Then, just like that I was able to catch an early rifle tag off the reissue list. Within a day or two, I was on the road to scout. On the 4th day of backpacking, I found a buck that excited me and he's the one I'll be after in early September.

I returned to the area where I had seen a buck that had a couple extras in July. He put on inches and added cheaters. He's a darn good one!

Another 3 days in the high country. I found a longtined 5x4 that I think should gross over 190, maybe as much as 195.

Another 3 days in the high country allowed me to look at about 50 bucks, with three of them being pretty impressive. One is over 30 inches wide, another is an old, heavy slug, and another has a few neat extras.

Spent 3 days in the high country looking for big bucks. Looked at about 45 bucks and saw 3 that got me a bit excited, including a neat droptine buck. Plus some big bulls!

Second scouting trip of the year for me and I located a neat buck that sports a tripod fork on one side, a cheater on the other and is fairly heavy.

Another nice day of looking at bucks. Found a couple real good bucks.

Got myself out there looking for bucks once again. Nice day out. Found a few pretty nice ones.

Got out to look at a few bucks recently and found some pretty nice ones.

My son and I both held tags on this 3rd season hunt in Colorado. Saw lots of bucks, but no super bucks, but quite a few that were big enough for Anden.

I don't think archery hunting gets any better than this. My buddy and I scored on two of the best bucks I found in 21 days of scouting, and we did it with our bows. What a fun hunt packed with lots of action and lots of bucks to look at.

It was a pretty good scouting trip. Put in another 3 days and looked at 54 bucks in total, with a couple of them being in that 180 range and a few other awesome bucks.

You've got to love bucks with some trash. I found one on this scouting trip that has 5 cheaters, an inline and mass. Cool buck and might be the one I'm after hard this year.

I think I might have found the best buck of the year on this scouting trip. In addition, I found another really cool 3x4 that's tall and wide.

The best scouting trip of the year so far. Found 2 taker bucks and another that might be a taker. Wide buck, buck with long tines and a couple inlines and another dandy with small cheaters.

Found a couple darn good bucks on this most recent trip. One is a high 180's or better 4x5 that may end up a 5x5. The other is a wider 4x5 with long eyeguards.

Another 3 days in the high country produced a few pretty solid bucks, including one that I think will be near mid-180's and another 180 type buck with an inline. Plus a buck with 4+ inch eyeguards.

I got back after it in Wyoming for another 3 days of backpacking and looking at bucks. Looked over about 80 in all, with just a few of them being exciting.

My mule deer scouting for 2018 has begun. On my first outing I looked at 54 bucks, maybe a few more. Found a couple that were pretty nice.

Got out to look at an area where I hope to be hunting this fall to see if I could find some good bucks. I found a couple. The one is really awesome!

I got my once-in-a-lifetime opportunity here in Utah this year to hunt Rocky Mountain Goats. I put in 8 days of hunting, and had a chance to arrow a great Billy, but in the end, no goat for me. Watch the video......

Luck was on my side. After passing this buck on day 2, I was able to return on day 8 and turn him up once again. Saw some great bucks on this hunt. Good time...........

After 31 days of scouting, my rifle hunt began on September 15th in Wyoming and on day 3 of the hunt I was able to connect of the buck I was after. Long-tined trophy buck.

Found a few on this trip that had some good tine length. One of them had real good width too. He's a possible mid-180's buck. Plus a couple other big bucks.

Looked at 70 bucks on this scouting trip to the high country, with a couple of them being in that 180+ range, plus some other unique bucks and plenty of uninteresting bucks.

4 days of backpacking and looking at bucks. Looked over 110 and saw some nice ones, as typical, but no giants. One wide buck, one with a few extras and some nice looking typical 4x4's.

Covered lots of miles on this scouting trip and when it was all said and done I looked at over 100 bucks. A couple 180 type bucks and then a tall, wide 3x3.

3rd trip of 2017 was a hot one, with lots of bugs and 55 bucks looked at. Three bucks ended up being much better than all others.

Got out for my second mule deer scouting trip for the year and found a couple pretty good ones. Will they be big enough to hunt? Not sure. What you think?

Hit the highcountry looking for a monster muley. Didn't find a monster, but did find some nice ones, including one that I think will be a taker for 99% of hunters.

I found this big buck while summer scouting and returned in October and found him again. After several days of hunting, I was able to put it together and take him. Fantastic!

Looked at 80 bucks or so on this trip. Found a few nice ones and lots of just "bucks". Good trip in the high country. Cool 5x5 and some 170-175 type 4x4's found.

Found some fine bucks on this trip, including my new target buck......wide, deep-forked stud. Plus another taker in the same area!

Three more days in the high country. 110 bucks looked at. Two real good bucks and some other nice ones.

Got out for a 2 day trip and turned up a cool cheater buck, a wide 4x5, and good one with long tines and an inline and another cheater buck.

I think I've found what I'll be searching for in October. He's a big one in my book.

Good scouting trip results in some fine bucks, including a very nice 7x8 buck with double cheaters off both sides.

Another 3 mornings and 2 evenings in the high country. Covered a lot of ground and located 4 big bucks. Very impressed with the best one.

Looked at more than 110 bucks on this trip, but only one is real interesting to me. Good trip......

2nd scouting trip of the year to Wyoming. A few good ones, one real nice buck on one side and a 5-inch stub on the other.

First scouting trip of 2016 for me. Found some good bucks.

After 7 days of hunting and 10 days afield, I finally saw a buck I wanted to take. Dandy typical 4x4 with browtines.

Checkout the monster muley I was hunting in Wyoming. I turned up the beast in July. My buddy also took a 30"+ stud buck. Good hunt, but couldn't get the monster.

I hit the high country once again before the archery hunt opens and turned up a couple wide bucks and a narrow, but good one. Good trip I would say. My hunting buddies are excited to get after these bucks.

More high country muley scouting resulted in some fine bucks found, even one that I'm interested in hunting.

Trip number 3 to the high country of Wyoming began a bit wet, but I still laid eyes on a few big bucks. Wide ones and long tined dudes!

My 2nd trip to Wyoming in 2015 was pretty good. I found what I believe is a taker for me. He has a few extras. I like him.

Looked over 49 buck in total, with a couple being real nice. One even has a couple extras beginning to grow.

I found the buck we dubbed "Blackjack"! This year he still has a mess of points, but not as big as last year. Still really cool. Gotta' see him.
