We're back in the cinema for the 36th MCU Movie and our Thunderbolts* Movie Review. The final movie in Phase 5 is great fun but has such a strong heart to it. Yelena Belova has just been going through the motions. Successfully complete her mission, go home alone, think about what she’s done and wait for another mission. Rinse, Repeat. Yelena needs a change and wants a more public-facing job. She visits her former fake father Aleksi Shastakov AKA The Red Guardian to find out how he copes. Aleksi just wants to get some missions like Yelena.But her boss Valentina Allegra De Fontaine has other things on her mind as she’s being impeached for her nefarious activities by Congressman Gary with the backing of newly elected Congressman James Buchanan Barnes. Valentina needs to create separation from all of the things that could impeach her and so she arranges a mission for each of her major assets to target each other hoping to kill them all and freeing herself from them. In the bunker Yelena accidentally releases an experiment named Bob in her fight against John Walker and while Ghost kills her target Taskmaster they soon realise they are trapped. They team up together to find their way out and Aleksi arrives in his Red Guardian Limo to help save them, but Bob is captured by Valentina and is taken to her new tower in New York City. As the rest of the rag tag outfit try to escape, Bucky captures them all to use them in his case against Valentina. Arriving in New York they soon have other problems as they realise that Bob is much more than he seemed. Realising her plan failed and her assets are still very much alive, Valentina invites them all to the former Avengers HQ in New York and shows off Bob’s new persona as The Sentry. A superhero in Valentina’s control. Despite what they had done to help Bob he is tasked with defeating this new team, tentatively named The Thunderbolts.After being easily beaten by this new super powered being the group go their separate ways but it’s not long until they learn there is something much more sinister behind The Sentry. Bob had bipolar disorder long before going through the experiment which gave him superpowers. His extreme highs have created the Sentry but his opposite side creates The Void, a dark being which pulls everyone around him into their darkest memory.Yelena is willingly taken by the void so she can try to help Bob. The rest of the Thunderbolts - Red Guardian, Ghost, Bucky and John Walker - all join her in the void. The team come together and help Bob to overcome the Void and return the light to New York City. But the act wipes Bob of his memory of what happened.The new team join together again to capture Valentina for her crimes but she brings them in front of the Press and reveals this was her plan all along and has “officially” created The New Avengers to mixed reactions from the world, especially from Sam Wilson the new Captain America.In the mid credit scene Red Guardian proudly pushes a box of Wheaties cereal with the team on the box on anyone who will list.After the credits the New Avengers are in Avengers tower discussing the upcoming legal battle over their name as an extra dimensional ship is detected. It's been way too long since we were in the cinema so John and Derek are back for the 35th MCU movie Captain America Brave New World.Synopsis for our Captain America Brave New World 2025 ReviewDirected by - Julius OnahStory by - Rob Edwards, Malcolm Spellman, Dalan MussonScreenplay by - Rob Edwards, Malcolm Spellman, Dalan Musson, Julius Onah and Peter GlanzAfter being diagnosed with a terminal heart condition, Cantankerous General Thaddeus Ross turns his life around and is announced as the new US president promising togetherness in the face of overwhelming challenges in the world.Following the discovery of a brand new element, Adamantium, in the body of the Celestial, Tiamut, that still resides in the Indian Ocean, countries across the world are battling for control of the powerful material.When the Serpent Society, a rogue special Ops group led by Sidewinder, steals a sample of Adamantium, President Ross sends Captain America to Oaxaca Mexico to retrieve the item. Backed up by his guy in the chair Joaquin Torres who wants to be the new Falcon, Cap recovers the items, but Sidewinder escapes. If Torres is to be the new Falcon, Sam wants him to train with the best so he sets up a session with another super soldier Isaiah Bradley. To thank them for their service, President Ross invites Sam and Joaquin to the White House. As recompense he asks for an invite for Isaiah too. But while Ross thanks the heroes a song begins to play triggering multiple attacks on the president. Isaiah is one of the shooters, he takes his shot and escapes the White House pursued by the secret service and President Ross’ private guard, former Black Widow Ruth Bat-Seraph. But Sam reaches Isaiah first and calms him down. He soon realises he has no memory of the incident. But with the high profile attack Isaiah is imprisoned while the investigation takes place.As Sam tries to clear his friend’s name, he and Joaquin learn there is one person behind everything who they must uncover. President Ross has a secret. Following Bruce Banner’s escape 16 years ago, Ross locked up his scientist contact Samuel Sterns forcing him to be his own personal think tank and create a cure for his illness.But, imbued with supreme intelligence, Sterns has used his skills to plant commands in agents across the world. He created a statistically probable chain of events to get payback on President Ross.When the Japanese government chooses to take the Adamantium for themselves, the US tries to intercept them. Stern’s manipulation almost leads the two countries to war until Captain America and Falcon convince them otherwise. But Falcon is injured in the crossfire.As President Ross announces the new cooperation between Japan and the US, Sam learns that Stern’s real plan was to turn President Ross into a real monster. The life-saving pills he created to save Ross were infused with Gamma radiation which transforms the president into the aggressive Red Hulk. Sam has to use all of his abilities to calm the monster inside Ross who finally gives himself up and is taken to The Raft prison where his estranged daughter Betty pays him a visit. We're back in the cinema for the 34th MCU movie The Marvels. The funny and action filled team up between Captain Marvel, Ms Marvel and Photon.Synopsis for our The Marvels 2023 ReviewWritten by: Nia DaCostaDirected by: Nia DaCosta, Megan McDonnell and Elissa Karasik  The collapse of the Supreme Intelligence leads to a civil war among the Kree species in their home world of Hala. The conflict renders the planet barren as it loses its air, water, and their sun begins to die.Dar-Benn, the new leader of the Kree, retrieves one half of the Quantum Bands, of which Kamala Khan has the other half. Dar-Benn harnesses the power of the Band, and pairs it with her staff, Universal Weapon, to tear apart a jump point in space with the aim of stripping the resources required from planets linked to The Annihilator, aka Carol Danvers, to repair her home world of Hala. The resulting anomaly is discovered by the Strategic Aerospace, Biophysics and Exolinguistic Response or S.A.B.E.R.Meanwhile, Nick Fury, now residing at the S.A.B.E.R. space station calls in Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau to investigate a jump point anomaly near the space station. When Rambeau touches it, she, Danvers, and Khan switch places through teleportation. The switching causes the three to fight each others' Kree enemies, leaving the Khans' house destroyed in their wake.As the three women return to their original places, Fury and Rambeau visit Khan on Earth. As Khan eagerly demonstrates her powers, she switches places with Danvers. The group surmises that the light-based powers of Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, and Ms Marvel are linked through quantum entanglement, and that they switch places when any of them use their powers at the same time.The three join up at a Skrull refugee colony on the planet Tarnax, where talks of resettlement have dissolved. Dar-Benn rips open another jump point, which siphons the atmosphere of Tarnax into Hala to try and restore its air. After a hasty effort to evacuate the colony, Danvers, Rambeau, and Kamala form a team informally referred to by Kamala as "the Marvels". Danvers informs the others of the legend that the Quantum Bands had been used to create the jump point transportation network; the three became entangled due to their mutual contact with its energy when Dar-Benn disrupted it, with Dar-Benn's repeated rupturing of jump points causing instability to the network and endangering the universe.Dar-Benn reaches the planet Aladna, where she tears open a jump point to draw the ocean water into Hala. Her final plan is to take the energy of Earth's sun to restore that of Hala. The Marvels fight and subdue Dar-Benn, but she steals Kamala's Band and uses both bracelets in conjunction to tear open another hole in space. The effort in doing so destroys Dar-Benn and leaves behind an opening into the multiverse. After Khan reclaims the Bands, she and Danvers use their combined powers to energize Rambeau, allowing her to close the hole from the other side, but leaving her stranded in the process in the other universe. After a brief fight, Miles subdues The Spot.But The Spot, who is being surveilled by Gwen, is not all that he appears as he blames Miles for his creation. He brings Miles to Alchemax, where he transports himself into a void and begins using his portals to travel to other universes with the Alchemax collider becoming more and more powerful as he states his aim to take revenge on his nemesis Miles Morales.While on Earth-1610 Gwen sees Miles but tracking The Spot is instructed that Miles can’t travel with them to capture The Spot. They take a portal back to Earth-928 where they lead the Spider Society to continue their investigation. But unbeknownst to them, Miles follows them into the portal and ends up in Mumbattan on Earth-50101, they encounter Pavitr Prabhakar / Spider-Man India and Hobie Brown / Spider-Punk before confronting The Spot in the Alchemax collider who successfully absorbs the device's power before escaping.Mumbattan begins falling apart from the disruption of a "canon event" after Miles saves a captain, who turns out to be Prabhakar's girlfriend's father. At the headquarters on Earth-928, where hundreds of Spider-Man variants reside Miguel O'Hara, tells Miles that he is risking the destruction of the multiverse, by preventing "canon" events that hold the fabric of the multiverse together, and that all Spider-Men must suffer sacrifices to maintain a stable multiverse.Realising that his own father, newly appointed as captain, will die at the hands of The Spot and is a canon event, Miles breaks free of the Spider Society, heading back to his home world to save his father. We return to the cinema with The Guardians of The Galaxy Volume 3, the thirty second movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The final movie in the trilogy and James Gunn's final movie for Marvel before he moves to the Distinguished Competition. We chat all about the movie in our latest podcast.Synopsis for our Guardians of The Galaxy Volume 3 Movie Review with the help of WikipediaWritten and Directed by: James GunnAt their new headquarters on Knowhere, the Guardians of the Galaxy are attacked by Adam Warlock, a Sovereign warrior created by their high priestess Ayesha. After Adam overpowers them and seriously wounds Rocket, he is stabbed by Nebula and forced to flee. The Guardians are unable to tend to Rocket's wounds due to a kill switch, made by the company Orgocorp, embedded in him. To save their friend the Guardians travel to Orgocorp's headquarters to find the override code.As Rocket lies unconscious, he recalls his past. As a baby raccoon, he was experimented on by the High Evolutionary, a scientist who sought to enhance animal lifeforms into anthropomorphic species to create a "Perfect" Counter-Earth. Rocket befriended the other test subjects: an otter called Lylla, the walrus Teefs, and the rabbit named Floor. Of all the test subjects the High Evolutionary was impressed by Rocket's intelligence but furious when it exceeded his own. Perfecting the anthropomorphization process with Rocket's advice he orders Rocket's brain to be extracted and his friends incinerated. Rocket, realising he and his friends were not part of the High Evolutionary’s perfect world, frees himself and his friends, but Lylla, Reefs and Floor but are killed in the escape by the High Evolutionary.Rocket, enraged, mauls the High Evolutionary and shoots his guards, as he makes his solitary escape in a spaceship.In the present, the alternate version of Gamora, who has joined the Ravagers, helps the Guardians infiltrate Orgocorp, which is owned by the High Evolutionary. They retrieve Rocket's file, but discover that the code has been removed. The group speculates that Theel, one of the High Evolutionary's recorders, has it, so they depart for Counter-Earth. They are followed by Ayesha and Adam, who are ordered by their creator, the High Evolutionary, to retrieve Rocket for his brain.Upon arriving on Counter Earth, the team is helped by residents in tracing Theel to the High Evolutionary's ship. Drax and Mantis remain with Gamora and Rocket as Peter Quill, Groot, and Nebula travel to the ship. Nebula is forced to wait outside by guards as Quill and Groot board. Drax and Mantis chase after Quill's group.The High Evolutionary initiates his destruction and planned recreation of Counter-Earth, which kills all life on the planet, including Ayesha. As his ship enters orbit, Quill and Groot leap off with Theel, retrieving the code from him. Gamora arrives with their ship to rescue them, while Nebula, Mantis, and Drax board the High Evolutionary's ship to rescue the now-absent Quill and Groot. As Quill's group attempts to access the code, Rocket flatlines and has a near death experience, where he sees Lylla, Teefs, and Floor. Lylla tells him that his time has not yet come as Quill uses the code to disable the kill switch and save Rocket's life.Nebula, Mantis, and Drax come across hundreds of imprisoned humanoid children on the High Evolutionary's ship before being captured. Quill's group sets out to rescue the three, who are placed in a chamber with monstrous Abilisks. Mantis befriends the Abilisks, allowing the group to escape and reunite with Quill's group, together overpowering the High Evolutionary's army. Kraglin and Cosmo arrive on Knowhere, and Cosmo creates a telekinetic tunnel connecting Knowhere to the High Evolutionary's ship to free the captured children. Rocket discovers imprisoned animals on the ship before being attacked by the High Evolutionary, but the rest of the Guardians help subdue him, leaving him to perish on his ship. The Guardians rescue the animals and lead them aboard Knowhere. Quill nearly dies trying to cross over but is saved by Adam, who had a change of heart after being saved by Groot.In the aftermath, Quill leaves the Guardians, bestowing the captaincy to Rocket before leaving for Earth to reunite with his grandfather Jason. Mantis embarks on a journey of self-discovery with the Abilisks, Gamora reunites with the Ravagers, and Nebula and Drax remain on Knowhere to raise the rescued children.In a mid-credits scene, the new Guardians, consisting of Rocket, a fully-grown Groot, Cosmo, Kraglin, Adam, Phyla-Vell (one of the rescued children), and Adam's pet Blurp, take on a new mission.
