Oilers fire Kris Knoblauch ahead of the most important summer in team history
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded and edited, and it's ready to help you wrap up the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed the Kris Knoblauch firing, what comes next for the Edmonton Oilers, Tyler's mukbang idea, and much more. The guys kicked off the Monday episode of Real Life with a conversation about basically anything they could think of that did not involve the Edmonton Oilers. Whether it was Tyler's tiny tummy or Garrick Higgo showing up late to the PGA Championship, to the snack station at Nation HQ, the guys really avoided the big topic of the day for way longer than expected. Needless to say, the guys did a pretty good job of pushing the Oilers convo down the road. Finally, the boys spoke about the Oilers pulling the trigger on firing Kris Knoblauch early Thursday morning. Given that the news leaked a couple of days ago, no one was surprised when the axe finally fell, but that didn't stop the world from looking at the sequence of events and dunking on the team. Talking about Knoblauch being fired led to a conversation about the summer and what the Oilers need to do to turn the ship around. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast on the Thursday episode of Real Life with a run of topics, starting with some Family Feud talk, beefs of the week, and another game of 501 where Baggedmilk and Wanye defended their undefeated streak. Even with the big team news that came down today, it's always remarkable to hear the boys avoid topics like absolute professionals. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Movie talk, the Oilers off-season, and the Rogers Place naming rights
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded and edited, and it's ready to help you wrap up the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed what comes next for the Edmonton Oilers, Evan Bouchard's Norris Trophy snub, the Leafs winning the NHL Draft Lottery, and much more. The guys kicked off the Monday episode of Real Life with a conversation about the latest round of drama in the Mike Vrabel and Diana Russini story and how TMZ just released another batch of photos and documents about their affair. Needless to say, the rabbit hole keeps getting deeper by the day, and it's going to be fascinating to see where this story ends up when the dust settles. With the Oilers out of the playoffs, the boys have a bunch more time to think about other things.Changing gears, the conversation turned to a bunch of movie talk. The boys really dove into the weeds on what they're watching these days and which movies can lure them back to rewatching, even if they've seen them a bunch of times. Even though the segment was meant to be only a few minutes, the boys ended up talking about movies and TV for much longer than anyone expected. Even though they acknowledged the segment was going on too long, it ended up running a few more minutes anyway. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast on the Thursday episode of Real Life with a run of topics, starting with the name rights for Rogers Place could potentially be wrapping up and whether any new companies would work their way in. Chalmers also shared the story of a WHL prospect who went 9th overall in the draft, and how it was such a cool moment for a young man he's known since childhood. Hosted on Acast. Leafs hire John Chayka, dreaming of Jon Cooper, and the Oilers' coaching situation
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded and edited, and it's ready to help you wrap up the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed the Oilers' playoff exit, the John Chayka announcement in Toronto, who Edmonton may need as a new head coach, and much more. The guys kicked off the Monday episode of Real Life with a conversation about the Toronto Maple Leafs hiring John Chayka as their new general manager, and specifically how Steven Simmons dunked on the team for this decision. As you'll hear in the clip, Simmons did not pull any punches with his questioning, and watching the interaction was pure theatre for fans of any other franchise. Needless to say, the start of the Chayka era kicked off with a bang.Changing gears, the conversation turned to the rumour that the ON staff is starting about Jon Cooper being the coach of the Edmonton Oilers. The problem, of course, is that Cooper still has time left on his contract and has not been fired by the Lightning, but that isn't stopping the staff from imagining what this partnership would look like. Sticking with the coaching conversation, the boys also discussed Bruce Cassidy as a very competent Plan B. Given that he also won a Stanley Cup, would it make sense for the Oilers to hire the former Vegas Golden Knight? Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast on the Thursday episode of Real Life with a run of topics, starting with what needs to happen with the Oilers to bring more of a playoff effort during the regular season. Would a new coach help with that? How much would it help to bring in other players that can fill proper roles in the lineup? The guys also spoke about concert tickets being out of control, and how tours are being cancelled because of how tickets aren't moving. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Looking ahead at Game 6 and what the Oilers need to do to push a Game 7
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded and edited, and it's ready to help you wrap up the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed the Oilers' Game 5 win, what the boys need to do to push Game 7, the special teams problems, and much more. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a conversation about most of the Real Life hosts not being in attendance on what is a massive day for the Edmonton Oilers. With the attendance complaints out of the way, Tyler talked about getting into Game 5 after waiting in Ford Hall until right before puck drop. That also led Tyler to talk about how great the vibes were at Rogers Place on Tuesday and how it felt like the fanbase is finally getting into it.Changing gears, the conversation turned to fans who bring their babies to the Moss Pit, and how it seems like a strange choice to bring toddlers out to playoff parties. Given that none of the fellas who started the playoffs have children, it's pretty easy to talk about what parents should and shouldn't do with their kids. Needless to say, the advice may have come from the right place, but the boys were also interested to hear from parents who actually have to deal with these situations. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast on the Thursday episode of Real Life with a run of topics, starting with beer prices in the Moss Pit and the Fan Park. Given that beers are still $18 each, the boys wondered how kids are affording to be in there every night. Changing gears, the guys looked ahead at Game 6, and specifically, what the Oilers need to do to grab a win on the road and force the series to a 7th and deciding game. Hosted on Acast. Oilers are on the ropes down 3-1, but hope will never die
The playoffs are underway and that means we're back to two episodes a week. On today's podcast, the guys dicsussed the oilers three game losing streak, overtime controversy, and the current playoff draft standings. The guys kicked off the Monday episode of Real Life with a conversation about the Oilers sucess in the past while being behind in a series. Although being down 3-1 is difficult to come back from, theres no one better suited for the job than the Edmonton Oilers.Moving on, the conversation quickly pivoted to the controversial overtime game winning goal. Was the right call made? Was the ref bitter he never played for the Edmonton Oilers? We may never truly know...Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast on the Monday episode of Real Life with a run of topics, starting with where everyone is standing in our current Oilersnation playoff draft standings. From there they gave some praise to the stellar youth lighting up U15 hockey tournaments and how that could save the Oilers (10 years from now). Finally, the guys put on their optimistac hats and charted the path for the Oilers to win this series in 7 games. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Chickengate, Connor McDavid's ankle, and getting fired up for the playoffs
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded and edited, and it's ready to help you wrap up the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed the Oilers' Game 2 loss, Connor McDavid's ankle injury, the series heading to Anaheim, and much more. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a conversation about the guy who threw the chicken/duck onto the ice, and how it was a moronic decision at that point in the game. Not only was it a dumb move to throw the bird on the ice, but to do it at that point of the game when the Oilers were buzzing was every shade of annoying. The guys even tried to think of better times he could have still done the stunt without annoying the entire fanbase.Changing gears, the conversation turned to Tyler's beef of the week, which centred around the playoff spirit that hasn't really landed in Edmonton yet. Given that we're two games in and there are very few car flags on vehicles in the city, Tyler called out the fanbase for not getting hyped up for the first round and offered a plea to get more involved to show support. That led to a discussion about what went wrong in Game 2, and what needs to be sorted out ahead of Friday's first game in Anaheim. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast on the Thursday episode of Real Life with a run of topics, starting with what the team needs to do better in Game 3 and beyond. From there, the boys played another round of 501 centred on how many playoff games a guy has played as an Oiler. Finally, Jay aired out a bonus Beef of the Week about Chalmers calling him at the most unfortunate times of day and complaining about never getting calls back. Hosted on Acast. On today's podcast, the guys discussed the Oilers' potential playoff matchups, Shotty Millz showing up at Nation HQ, best in-person sports, and much more. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a conversation about Shotty Millz coming down to Nation HQ, and how Tyler didn't seem to find much joy in having the local rapper in the building. As you'll hear, the boys ganged up on Tyler a little bit and questioned his motives for poo-pooing the grind. From there, the boys pivoted to beefs of the week, including Chris Pronger's take on Edmonton, Christmas lights left out year-round, and Alberta's horrible stretch of weather.Changing gears, the conversation turned to the Oilers' potential playoff matchups and how wild it is that we won't know what's happening until after Thursday's game against Vancouver. Not only do we not know who the Oilers will play in Round 1, but we also don't know what day they will even be starting. As far as starting another playoff run, it's hard to get excited just yet when there are so many unanswered questions in the air. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast on the Thursday episode of Real Life with a run of topics, starting with Rory McIlroy winning the Masters for the second consecutive year, and which team everyone would prefer Edmonton to face in Round 1. The guys also discussed their final attempt at the bet365 first goal scorer challange, and how Wanye and Chalmers need a Hail Mary to get themselves back in the mix. Hosted on Acast. On today's podcast, the guys discussed the Masters Tournament, the Oilers' big win in San Jose, Connor Ingram and Jason Dickinson getting banged up, best in-person sports, and much more. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a conversation about Jay's lack of attendance on the podcast and a plan to play a trick on him, knowing he won't listen to the show. If you listen to this week's episode, the boys are asking for help with the bit. Sticking with TNN's suite of podcasts, the guys spent a few minutes discussing the network's shows and how the whole operation works.Changing gears, the conversation turned to the Masters and how Chalmers and Tyler were so excited for the tournament to get going. After the horrible spring we've had in Edmonton, the boys are using the Masters weekend as their kick-off point for their own summer of swing. As you'll hear, the Masters isn't just something to watch on TV, but rather a tipping point into a summer of golf. The point is, this is a big deal for 2/3 of the hosts. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast on the Thursday episode of Real Life with a run of topics, starting with some Oilers talk about the team's magic number and what they need to do to win the Pacific Division. Starting with Connor McDavid's brilliance over the last two games, and how he's playing his best hockey at the right time of the year. Turning back to the Masters, the boys took guesses at what they could do for a score in a round at Augusta, which led to talking about what sports would be the best to watch in person. As much as Chalmers loves going down to Mexico, it was also a little bit eerie to be in Puerto Vallarta with all of the craziness happening around the country right now. He also walked the boys through the struggles he was having to find a spot that would show the Oilers game.Changing gears, the conversation turned to the Nation Vacation trip to Las Vegas. Tyler and Baggedmilk walked Chalmers through some of the best stories from this latest trip, and how it was one of the best runs down to Vegas that we've ever done. Even with a smaller group, there were so many amazing stories to share that the boys really only scratched the surface. From winning money to trip darts to what it was like to be at T-Mobile Arena for such a massive moment. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast on the Thursday episode of Real Life with a run of topics, starting with Connor Ingram getting a birthday shutout and how he's been so good over the last couple of weeks. March Madness, Hypothetical Trade Scenarios, and Beer League Etiquette
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded and edited, and it's ready to help you wrap up the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed March Madness kicking off, hypothetical trade scenarios for Darnell Nurse, beer league shenanigans, the Oilers' resurgence, and more. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a conversation about sodas, noting that some social media accounts seem to glamorize binge-drinking cans of pop. While the guys all enjoy a carbonated beverage from time to time, no one can understand how anyone can drink more than a couple. Talking about sodas led the guys to discuss supplement stacking and how these "life hacks" seem to be much more prevalent.Changing gears, the conversation turned to Sudarshan Yellamaraju, the professional golfer out of Winnipeg who has forced his way onto the scene with pure relentlessness. As you'll hear, his story of turning pro is anything but easy, making it one worth following over the next weeks, months, and years. One of the best parts of golf is that it's a solo sport, and stories like Yellamaraju's make the journey that much more inspiring. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with the Thursday episode of Real Life with a run of topics, starting with some hypothetical trade scenarios between Tyler and Jay that would have Darnell Nurse going to Detroit in the offseason. As expected, the back-and-forth went about as well as you'd expect. Shifting topics once again, the boys walked through a rumble Chalmers' beer league game, and whether the scenario merited that kind of shenanigans. Hosted on Acast. Shaq visits Edmonton, car stereos, and Baggedmilk's plumbing adventure
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded and edited, and it's ready to help you wrap up the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed Shaquille O'Neal being in Edmonton, old car stereos, disc changers in your trunk, and more. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a conversation about Shaq being in Edmonton and how just being him must be so exhausting. No matter where the guy goes, there's always a list of people who want to interact with him. Talking about Shaq led the guys to wonder which athlete is most famous worldwide. As you'll hear, it's hard to think of many athletes from any sport who would carry more brand recognition than the Big Aristotle.Changing gears, the conversation turned to everyone's first car, and how it's amazing how much the music game has changed for guys who started with disc changers in their trunks. These days, the idea of having a six-disc changer in your trunk sounds nuts, but it's fascinating to hear everyone experience the same thing. The guys also discussed how much they invested in their old car stereos, which is wild to think about in an era when big stereos aren't nearly as prevalent. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with the Thursday episode of Real Life with a run of topics, starting with re-gripping golf clubs, a young Chalmers golf journey, kids not knowing how to fix anything, and Baggedmilk's plumbing adventure. Once again, the final chunk of Thursday's episode of Real Life was all over the map with a range of topics that covered a lot of ground. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

The Oilers' trade deadline, life hacks, and the Nation HQ snack controversy
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded and edited, and it's ready to help you wrap up the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed their beefs of the week, life hacks, the NHL Trade deadline, Oilers moves, the Nation HQ snack controversy, and more. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a new order of operations: they started the podcast with their beefs of the week instead of wrapping up the show. Wanye started the segment with a drive-thru complaint after his breakfast order was missing both the egg and milk he requested. Jay followed up with a beef of the week of his own after he got told off in traffic for simply occupying his space.Changing gears, the conversation turned to life hacks the fellas have amassed over the years, and how Wanye has a new parking hack at Rogers Place that he refuses to share. Somehow, the parking discussion led to a discussion about snacks at Nation HQ and how a few staffers are being accused of overindulging in the office fridge. As you'll hear, the mission for the boys is to start capturing greed red-handed and turning it into content. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with the Thursday episode of Real Life with a run of topics, starting with the Nation Vacation to Vegas, the Oilers making moves ahead of the trade deadline, what they could potentially do before the buzzer, NHL insiders calling trades before they're done, and whatever other random stories and items they could come up with to fill the time. Oilers disaster in Anaheim, Tristan Jarry, and Canada vs. USA
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded and edited, and it's ready to help you wrap up the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed the Wayne Gretzky locker-room snub rumour, the Oilers' disastrous effort in Anaheim, Tristan Jarry's struggles, Tyler's hypotheticals, and more. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a conversation about the Olympic hockey final and a rumour that came out this morning saying Wayne Gretzky was not allowed in the room for a pre-game speech. Given that the rumour started on Barn Burner, it's been interesting to see how much noise came out of Mike Commodore's comments on the show. While the rumour has been shot down by Hockey Canada, social media has continued to run with the story.Changing gears, the conversation turned to Tyler's list of "fun" hypothetical scenarios that weren't really all that fun. Unfortunately, those hypotheticals didn't do much to lift the mood in the room, as everyone was still notably annoyed by how the Oilers are playing right now. From undoing the Skinner-for-Jarry trade or adjusting current Oilers contracts to free up cap dollars, Tyler offered a few this-or-that scenarios that were as sad as they were tricky to parse. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with the Thursday episode of Real Life, running through topics, starting with staying away from social media in the days after the gold medal game, rivalries growing the game, the 2028 World Cup vs. a Summit Series-style head-to-head, and beefs of the week. Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded and edited, and it's ready to help you wrap up the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed the winter games, Team Canada in the semi-finals, and more. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a conversation about the winter games, as Tyler kicked off the podcast by admitting he's watching the curling semi-final as Canada works to punch their way to the final. Chalmers, however, hasn't been able to get into the games outside men's hockey, and it was a fascinating change of pace for the guy who even downloaded an app to find out what time things were showing.Changing gears, the conversation turned to Team Canada's quarter-final win over Czechia and how remarkable it was that no one noticed the Czechs had 6+ players on the ice for that third goal. While it was definitely a mistake by the officiating crew, it was also baffling how none of the Canadian players or coaches noticed and called it out. They also discussed what Canada needs to improve on as they face Team Finland in the semis on Friday morning. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with the Thursday episode of Real Life with a run of topics, starting with what everyone's plans are for the rest of the men's hockey tournament, including the events schedule for the next couple of games. They also discussed the upcoming Brunch for Ben that's happening at the end of February, and this is an event that you absolutely want to be at. Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded and edited, and it's ready to help you wrap up the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed the Oilers' disaster, the Milan-Cortina Games, scandals at the games, beefs of the week, and more. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a conversation about the Winter Games in Milan and how it's wild that these cities have to build all kinds of infrastructure for a three-week period. Somehow, talking about the Olympics led the boys to discuss Connor McDavid winning the Scholastic Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons when he was in Erie. Eventually, the fellas got around to McDavid's debut with Team Canada, and how No. 97 was shot out of a cannon for the first game.Changing gears, the conversation turned to sports that you won't see in the Winter or Summer Games, including the new sport where two giant men run into each other at full speed. As you'll hear, the boys clearly love the Winter Games and were not shy about sharing their admiration for these athletes. Sticking with the Milan Games, the guys ran through some of the wildest headlines so far and ranked them by their general absurdity. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with the Thursday episode of Real Life with a run of topics, starting with beefs of the week, Leon Draisaitl's spectacular debut, copyright laws for the games, and how athletes are forced to do commercials just to afford their participation. The Oilers are a disaster, the Olympics, and betting on the Super Bowl
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded and edited, and it's ready to help you wrap up the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed the Oilers' disaster, the winter Olympics, Super Bowl betting, and more. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a conversation about Chalmers' diet and how his upcoming trip to Mexico inspired him to get back into shape. The problem, of course, is that getting back into shape means that he's drinking so much water that he's constantly in the bathroom peeing. As much as he feels better after working out and cutting sugar from his diet, hearing his beef with water was the most Chalmers way to describe the lifestyle change.Changing gears, the conversation turned to the Olympics and how everyone is amped to watch the games despite the time difference between Italy and Canada tossing a wrench in the mix. As you'll hear, Chalmers thought he had a system in place to make sure he knew what time to watch live sports, but a quick pressure test on the system quickly poked a few holes in the plan. Either way, the boys will all have the Olympics on TV and act as experts despite not knowing a lick about what's going on.Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with the Thursday episode of Real Life with a run of topics, starting with beefs of the week, the Oilers being a total disaster in their last week before the break, and ran through a list of Super Bowl bets. While the boys tried to keep the podcast on the rails, the reality is that not having Tyler on the podcast really makes staying on track ends up being impossible. As always, the Thursday episode of Real Life covered a wide range of topics, and the boys had a blast recording it. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Wanye's sad coffee news, Oilers vs. Sharks, and the winter Olympics
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded and edited, and it's ready to help you wrap up the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed Wanye's favourite coffee shop closing, food preferences, the Oilers' 10th chance to win three straight games, the winter Olympics, and more. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a conversation about Wanye's favourite coffee spot closing down after their lease was not renewed by the building owner. Given that this specific location was part of his daily routine, it's a real problem for Wanye, and now he's concerned about which spot will take up his time and commitment. Talking about a closed coffee shop led the boys to talk about their favourite places to get a cup of joe.Changing gears, the conversation turned to foods the guys don't like as adults, foods they hoped they would have come to appreciate as they got older. As you'll hear, two of the boys have some interesting quirks with their food preferences, while the other two will happily eat whatever is in front of their faces. The most important part of the conversation is that the boys are all over the map about what they'll eat and what they won't.Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with the Thursday episode of Real Life with some Oilers talk, as the team looks for their first three-game winning streak of the season on their 10th attempt. Given that the San Jose Sharks are in town and Macklin Celebrini is having a MVP-calibre season, tonight's Pacific Division battle feels like a huge test for an Edmonton club that has lost as many games as they've won. Oilers game-worn merch, Connor McDavid's point streak, and pond hockey strategy
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded and edited, and it's ready to help you wrap up the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed the Oilers' game-worn merch prices, Connor McDavid's point streak, Tristan Jarry's return to the lineup, the Jasper Pond Hockey tournament, and more. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a conversation about why Jay still can't show up for the podcast even though he is back from Mexico and technically in the building. According to Chalmers' accounting, Jay has missed eight straight podcasts, and it sounds like Chalmers will not let him off the hook for these absences. Will he ever come back and make another appearance on the Real Life podcast?Changing gears, the conversation turned to the prices Tyler found on some Oilers game-worn merch that's listed on the team store. As you'll hear, the Price is Right game that Tyler put together for Baggedmilk and Chalmers went precisely as he expected, considering that the other two boys kept coming up way light on their guesses. Sticking with the Oilers, the boys discussed Connor McDavid's point streak and how this is a point in time where our captain is playing so well that Edmonton games are becoming appointment viewing. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with the Thursday episode of Real Life with a random collection of topics, including Tristan Jarry's return to the lineup, and what the Oilers will do with their goaltending going forward. They also discussed a few strategy points for the upcoming Jasper Pond Hockey tournament, and how the boys want to make some adjustments this year to give themselves the best chance to win. Christmas delays, Connor McDavid's magic, and Chalmers is a new man
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded and edited, and it's ready to help you wrap up the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed Christmas delays, sports rink advertising, the World Juniors, and more. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a conversation about Christmas delays and how long we're allowed to accept them as excuses. Tyler has been waiting for parts to fix his toilet, but the company he ordered them from keeps citing the holiday break as the reason he doesn't have them yet. Somehow, that led to a discussion about advertising at the arena and how times have changed so much in the last two decades.Changing gears, the conversation turned to Connor McDavid's brilliance, and how this 16-game heater he's on is making everyone else look like dopes. From the goals to the shots to the speed, everything is clicking for the captain right now, and there doesn't seem to be much the rest of the league can do about it. Sticking with hockey, the guys walked through Canada's performance at the World Juniors, and whether losing to Czechia for the third straight year should raise alarms with Hockey Canada. Are we losing because hockey is a rich-kid sport? Were the boys thinking about this too much? Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with the Thursday episode of Real Life with a random collection of topics, including Nation staff spending habits, beefs of the week, Chalmers' New Year's Eve hot tub trouble, and whatever else came to mind. Given that the boys haven't recorded an episode in a few weeks, the last half of the podcast was all over the map. Needless to say, Thursday's episode of real life was all over the map. Leon Draisaitl's 1000th point picture, Trent Frederic, and Christmas gift cards
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded and edited, and it's ready to help you wrap up the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed the Jarry vs. Skinner game, Leon Draisaitl's 1000th point, and more. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a conversation about ginger beef being invented in Calgary and how you can only find it in Western Canada unless the restaurant owner is Canadian. From there, the guys jumped into the Stuart Skinner conversation and how the Oilers celebrated Leon Draisaitl's 1000th point only a few feet away from their former goaltender. Should the Oilers have tried to move the pile away from Stu? Are we being too sensitive about the situation?Changing gears, the conversation turned to Leon Draisaitl's 1000th point picture in the room, and how everyone had a cigarette in their mouth to commemorate his viral wedding photo. From there, Chalmers tried to figure out which players had enjoyed a butt or two based solely on how they had it sitting in their mouths. Sticking with the Oilers, the fellas looked ahead to Thursday's matchup against the Bruins and whether a trip to Boston can be enough to wake up Trent Frederic. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with the Thursday episode of Real Life, covering a random collection of topics, including beefs of the week and maybe a moment or two of Edmonton Oilers hockey talk. Needless to say, when the team is as bad as they've been lately, talking about literally any other topic just seems more enjoyable. As always, the Thursday episode was all over the map, which is precisely what you'd expect from the Real Life podcast. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Philip Rivers' NFL return, music vs. pop culture, and Jay's speeding tickets
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded and edited, and it's ready to help you wrap up the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed Philip Rivers' return to the NFL, Morgan Wallen = Drake, Jay's list of traffic tickets, and more. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a conversation about Tyler Yaremchuk's wedding and how we're finally able to release his Oodle Noodle ad from the ceremony. As you'll see, Tyler nailed the ad copy to open up the speeches, and the video is hilarious. Shifting gears, the guys discussed Philip Rivers' return to the Indianapolis Colts after a five-year absence. Needless to say, this is one of the wildest sports stories in recent memory, and we won't have to wait long to see how the experiment goes. Changing gears, the conversation turned to music after Wanye noted some dramatic weight loss in the music industry lately. With Ozempic so prevalent, it's hard to imagine there's no trade-off to losing weight so easily. That led to the boys talking about their annual Spotify wraps, and Chalmers' theory that Morgan Wallen is basically the Drake of country music. Somehow, talking about music led to Jay telling the story of the recent run of tickets he got yesterday and how he now has to deal with a wide list of infractions. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with the Thursday episode of Real Life with a random collection of topics, including a look at anything other than the Edmonton Oilers. Needless to say, when the team is as bad as they've been lately, talking about literally any other topic just seems more enjoyable. The Dave Chappelle show disaster, Jay's trip to New York, and job interviews
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded, edited, and is ready to help you wrap up the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed the Dave Chappelle show at Rogers Place, Jay's new dad hat, his trip to New York, and more. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a range of topics, from job duties to Tyler's studio upgrades and whether anyone who starts at this company has to have a job interview. As the boys were working through a handful of intro topics, Baggedmilk and Jay walked in 10 minutes late and completely derailed the start of the podcast. Changing gears, the conversation turned to Baggedmilk's experience at the Dave Chappelle show last night at Rogers Place, which he called one of the worst live-event experiences he's ever had. Whether it was the people yelling out nonsense during his stories, what was supposed to be a fantastic night with a legend turned into a total disaster. As much as everyone who went to Rogers Place was jacked up to see Chappelle, it's a shame that the actions of a handful of people ruined the night for everyone else. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with the Thursday episode of Real Life with a random collection of topics, including a look at anything other than the Edmonton Oilers. Needless to say, when the team is as bad as they've been lately, talking about literally any other topic just seems more enjoyable. Thanksgiving football, Oilers autograph session at WEM, and max wait times
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded, edited, and is ready to help you wrap up the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed Thanksgiving football, Chalmers' door-locking routine, the Oilers' autograph session at WEM, and more. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a Thanksgiving discussion about turkey and how many cuisines from around the world don't use turkey. Somehow, talking about turkey led the guys to discuss whether they'd be comfortable hunting. Given how popular hunting is among a segment of the population, it was interesting to hear the boys' thoughts on whether they could do it. Spoiler: The room was split. Changing gears, the conversation somehow turned to Chalmers' fear of judgment when he locks the door behind a departing guest too soon. He doesn't want the person to hear him lock the door behind them. While he was the only one on the podcast to have this fear, it was fascinating to hear his thoughts on the proper timeline for locking up. Shifting the conversation again, the boys discussed the Oilers' autograph session at WEM and how long they would be willing to wait in line for an autograph. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with the Thursday episode of Real Life with a random collection of topics, including a look at anything other than the Edmonton Oilers. Needless to say, when the team is as bad as they've been lately, talking about literally any other topic just seems more enjoyable. Chalmers' trip to Disneyland, Oilers imploding, and more random shenanigans
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded, edited, and is ready to help you wrap up the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed Chalmers' Disneyland adventure, the Oilers' continuous struggles, Trent Frederic's struggles, and much more. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a look at Chalmers' trip to Disneyland, and how he surprised a family member for a milestone birthday. As a group of 13 people, going to Disneyland became a much larger task and cost than initially expected. From the pirate-themed Airbnb they stayed at to spending the day at Disneyland to weather delays in the desert, Chalmers gave a full update on his time away and what he's been up to since his last time on the podcast.Changing gears, the guys discussed the Oilers' disastrous start to the season and how the team doesn't seem to have any answers for the recurring issues that are hurting them night in and night out. Is he feeling the heat of the eight-year contract and overthinking what he's doing? Does he see the money he got as a finish line? They also discussed Edmonton's goaltending issues and whether there are any solutions available that are not completely ridiculous. Regardless of who you're blaming, the reality is that there are plenty of areas of concern. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with the Thursday episode of Real Life with a random collection of topics, including a look at anything other than the Edmonton Oilers. Tyler's Oilers ticket confusion, goalie rumours, and flight delays
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded, edited, and is ready to help you wrap up the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed the Oilers' beatdown by Colorado, Jay and Baggedmilk's trip out east, and much more. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a look at the last handful of days in the world of sports. Starting with the 9-1 beatdown from last Saturday, Tyler wanted to talk about the ticket shenanigans Jay dumped on him, which had Tyler negotiating with other fans to move seats so the group could sit together. Jay and Baggedmilk also told a few stories from their trip to Toronto and Montreal, including flight delays, lounge life, and a trip to the Habs game at the Bell Centre. Changing gears, the guys discussed the Oilers' goaltending situation. Given that the rumours about needing a new goalie won't go anywhere, the boys wanted to look at some of the names the team might be interested in. Spoiler: The tight cap situation makes any of the fun names seem improbable until the summer. Needless to say, if the Oilers do get a new goalie at some point in the 2025-26 season, it likely won't be one of the sexy names everyone is hoping for. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with the Thursday episode of Real Life, featuring a random collection of topics, including a look at Jay's tendency to talk in his sleep, Tyler's new favourite TikTok account, old jersey picks to wear to the game, and whatever else want on the boys' minds. As always, the Thursday episode was all over the map, which is precisely what you'd expect from the Real Life podcast. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

The Blue Jays Heartbreak, the Oilers malaise & societal responsibilities
Tyler, Chalmers and Wanye sat down for a new edition of The Real Life Podcast as they looked back on the last seven days both in their lives and the world of sports. They began by talking about their Halloween weekend, which then led into some talk about the Toronto Blue Jays. It was a great run that sadly ended with a pair of painful losses. There was some Oilers talk today on the podcast as they gave some takes on the team’s lacklustre play, and compared the vibes of a cinderella team like the Blue Jays to a perennial contender like the Oilers. Are there legitimate reasons to be concerned about the long-term health of this Oilers team? Or is this just their usual early season malaise? They then talked about the level of shadiness that goes on in professional sports. Wanye thinks that there’s a chance that things are shaped by the higher ups but both Tyler and Chalmers pushed back against that. They then gave their beefs of the week which included a rant from Tyler about traffic and societal responsibilites. There is a left-hand turn problem in our city and he’s had enough. Chalmers has also had enough of people who are lining up at convenience stores with all of their lottery tickets. Hosted on Acast. The Blue Jays are one game away from winning the World Series
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded, edited, and is ready to help you wrap up the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed the Toronto Blue Jays being a win away from the World Series, the Nation Vacation to Vancouver, beefs of the week, Halloween candy, and much more. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a look at the Toronto Blue Jays' chances at closing out the World Series on Friday night at the Rogers Centre. Given that the Jays are only one game away from clinching their third World Series title, it's hard not to get completely wrapped up in this run. Even if you're not a hardcore Blue Jays fan who watches every game in the regular season, the hype is taking over the country in a very real way.Changing gears, the guys dove a little bit into the Nation Vacation, and started with the rally popcorn Baggedmilk bought at the Oilers game in Vancouver. While the rally popcorn was trying to do its thing, Jay noted that Tyler had the job completed before Edmonton actually completed the comeback. From there, Tyler and BM spent the next few minutes thanking the amazing Nation Citizens who joined us on this trip out west. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with Thursday episode of Real Life with a random collection of topics, including a look at the NFL schedule having some horrible prime time matchups, Halloween candy tactics during the World Series, and how shrinkflation is ruining everyone's ability to eat appropriate amounts of candy. Talking about candy led to the guys workshopping some ideas for Chalmers' Halloween party that some folks on the show weren't invited to. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Jays in the World Series, the NBA scandal, and the Oilers take on the Habs
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded, edited, and is ready to help you wrap up the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed the World Series, cruise ships, Oilers vs. Habs, and much more. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a look ahead at the World Series after Tyler walked into the studio wearing his new hoodie to commemorate the occasion. Not only did everyone want to hear about his experience for Game 7, but they also wanted to know what it was like to sit in a stadium that was going absolutely bananas. As you'll hear, Tyler had plenty of stories from being at Skydome that were very exciting and entirely understandable, which only fuelled everyone's excitement for Friday. From there, the discussion somehow shifted to cruise ships. How did the podcast get to cruises? No one knows for sure, but the conversation gave Chalmers the chance to talk about how much he loves them. After winding through his honeymoon cruise story, the podcast eventually turned into a discussion about the NBA's betting scandal that broke on Thursday. While this is certainly a very serious situation, the boys still had a bunch of fun talking about the absurdity of the situation. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with Thursday episode of Real Life with a random collection of topics, including a look at the Oilers vs. Habs, Vladdy Guerrero Jr's translator, beefs of the week, intense crowd moments, and whatever else was the boys' minds at the time. As you'll hear, the last chunk of the podcast was all over the map, which is what you should almost expect now that the podcast is down to one episode per week. Hosted on Acast. Oilers wins, hated NHL opponents, and way too early trade rumours
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded, edited, and is ready to help you wrap up the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed the Oilers' two-game win streak, trade rumours, most hated opponents, and much more. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with some Oilers talk after the boys picked up a pair of wins over the Canucks and Rangers. Somehow, talking about those two wins led to a discussion about potential trade targets for Edmonton, even though it's way too early to really even discuss the possibilities. Following the trade talks down the rabbithole, the guys debated about who they would rather have in a trade: Tage Thompson or Ilya Sorokin. From there, the discussion shifted to the players or opponents we irrationally hate just because they played for an opposing team. Whether it was a former Flame like Robyn Regehr crushing Ales Hemsky to the Dallas Stars running the show during the playoffs in the late 90s, there were plenty of options to choose from, and the reasons for hating them were all over the map. If anything, this exercise was a trip down memory lane and a reminder of how long some of these memories can last. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with an array of topics, including the Jays trying to even up the series in Seattle, the Oilers looking for a third consecutive win, Ike Howard's spot in the lineup, and whatever else popped into anyone's mind. Needless to say, the last chunk of the podcast was a classic dose of Real Life because no single topic seemed to last more than a minute or two. Structure? Kinda. Bouncing all over the place? Absolutely. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Jay's trip to London, Oilers season opener, and beef of the week
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded, edited, and is ready to help you wrap up the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed Jay's trip to London, the Oilers' season opener loss, the Blue Jays beating the Yankees, beefs of the week, and much more. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a quick recap of Jay's trip to the UK for the Browns game, covering what he got up to despite being away for only 96 hours. From trying haggis for the first time to dabbling with local beers to watching the NFL in a soccer stadium, Jay got a lot of life done in a very short amount of time. From there, the discussion shifted to the Oilers' season opener, which was an incredibly frustrating result given how well the boys started the game. Starting with a look at the new guys, Chalmers admitted that he didn't know who some of the new guys were, which led to the boys dunking on him repeatedly. Despite hearing many of these names multiple times, Finally, the guys walked through a new segment called Beef of the Week where the boys vented their frustrations with some news stories from the past week. Whether it's pop culture, the Oilers not acknowledging the Western Conference Champions banner, to the Blue Jays beating the Yankees in their first-ever playoff matchup, the end of this week's podcast was all over the map. Kirill Kaprizov's contract, talking to birds, and going viral on social media
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded, edited, and is ready to help you wrap up the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed Kirill Kaprizov's contract, speaking to animals, and much more. The guys started the Thursday episode of Real Life with a discussion about the Oilers' pre-season and how it's such a grind to get through these eight games when games that matter are right around the corner. The good news is that there's only one tune-up game left to slog through until the regular season begins, and that means we're so close to getting going for real. Talking about the season led the guys to discuss Kirill Kaprizov's contract extension and whether it affects Connor McDavid's negotiations. Taking a hard turn, Tyler asked the boys which animal they would choose to speak with if they could somehow speak the same language. While this may have been a throwaway comment by Tyler, the boys took the question way more seriously than he probably expected. From talking to birds to negotiating with wasps and mosquitoes, what seemed like a throwaway topic ended up going on way longer than anyone probably expected. Finally, the guys walked through a new segment called Beef of the Week where they vented their frustrations for a couple of minutes to let it all out. From complaining about TV to Chalmers' love of tomahawk steaks, the first go at this new idea went better than initially expected. The real question, however, is whether or not the fellas can actually stick to coming up with something every week instead of letting the bit slide as they always seem to do. Hosted on Acast. The Ryder Cup, fan chirps, and Wanye Jr. at the Oilers game
Monday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded, edited, and is ready to help you kick off your workweek. On today's podcast, the guys discussed Tyler's big betting weekend, the Elks' victory over the Roughriders, Connor McDavid's contract status, and explored other topics that arose. The guys started the Monday episode of Real Life with a discussion about a variety of random topics, including the COVID-19 hockey bubble and weird memories from that period in time. Needless to say, talking about sports during COVID times almost feels alien, given how everything is long back to normal less than five years later. Talking sports led Tyler to talk about his Saturday at the Elks game, and how it was an electric finish for both the team and his wallet.Changing gears, the guys walked through their squad ride bet for the Ryder Cup and how the weekend was not only entertaining but also profitable. The guys also discussed the player feedback after the tournament was done, and whether the crowd was getting too carried away with their chirps and barbs for the European players. Part of the discussion also centred on whether the noise was worse because the tournament took place in New York, an area known for its aggressive fans, even at the best of times. Finally, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with a random collection of topics, including the Connor McDavid contract situation, body language, and whether we're still reading way too much into the situation despite him still being unsigned. Sticking with contract discussions, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life by wondering what is going on around the league and whether the other unsigned deals are making the same kind of waves.
