¡Qué libro! "Piñata and Possessions" is the theme for the week! Piñata by Leopoldo Gout weaves folklore throughout a tale of a mother and her two daughters who visit Mexico City for work and to experience their heritage. When ancient relics are found in an Abbey, things start to unravel around them-things that follow them home to NYC. And for the game of the week we chose popular literary figures and took turns guessing what a piñata of them might be filled with- Jack Torrance, Gollum, Lisbeth Slander, and Akasha to name a few. So listen and find out, and as always, read cheese and eat books!!

    Seed & Supernatural Curses

This week Suzanne and Presley are talking "Seed and Supernatural Curses"...this book by Ania Ahlborn might come in a small package but it contains an intense story. The tale is of Jack, who is living his nuclear family life, father of 2 girls when one starts exhibiting some all too familiar traits. Jack has to face a deep dark secret from the post and in doing so many have to uncover things he'd rather leave buried. Speaking of cursed haunted families the girls talk about the story of The Bell Witch, the ghost of old Kate who plagued the Bell family and is one of the most well documented hauntings in America. Thanks again for joining us and as always, Read cheese- and eat books!

Mary: An Awakening of Terror & Aging, Inanimate Objects and Womanhood

Serial killers, supernatural forces, cults, ghosts, astrology, dysfunctional families, the desert, menopause and more, Mary: An Awakening of Terror has it all. Not to mention this is the debut(!) from Nat Cassidy, whose epilogue adds even more humble humanity to a wonderful work. We chose the theme for this to be middle aged women, as this book addresses a lot of the changes that come along with being a woman and gives voice to a time in life much dismissed. And also the whole talking to inanimate objects thing. Mary knocked our socks off, exceeded only perhaps by Aunt Nadine!! Gather up your babies and settle in, it's going to be a great episode- Thanks for listening!

  29. 22

Hopefully you aren't squeamish because this week is "Tender is the Flesh & Cannibalism/Veganism". This book by Agustina Bazterrica was one we jumped into not realizing how heavy a subject it would be- basically a dystopia where people now eat "special meat" coming from a class of humans designated for eating....we both had existential crises and lightend the mood with a round of "which celebrity would taste better" Snoop or Martha? Taylor Swift or Miley Cyrus?

  38. 13

    Maeve Fly & Disney

We can't stop raving about Maeve Fly, c'mon a female Patrick Bateman who by day is a princess at a very happy theme park and by night haunts dive bars on the sunset strip. Los Angeles is the perfect setting for this masterpiece of Horror, and truly CJ Leede has outdone herself. Our theme is Disney, and we get into a trivia game called "gruesome disney game aka allegedly" where we discuss some sordid history and end as always with delightfully crappy Haikus.
