Note to Self

One of the most commonly said practices to lead a more fulfilling life includes identifying your “values.” In Note to Self, Anjali Singh and Fiona Paterson explore the concept of values, reflecting on their own experiences on how different values play out in our lives, in hopes to identify what they truly feel are the values that make up their identity (and encourage you all to join them for the ride)!

  1. 1

    Is this an ending?

For their likely very last episode, Anjali and Fiona reflect on the past 10 episodes of Note to Self and their experience making the podcast, as well as their friendship and life as roommates for the past year, as Anjali’s moving out of Seattle.

    Music, TV, games, One Piece

Join Anjali and Fiona for a fun episode where they talk about their favorite pastime— entertainment—and the many avenues they pursue that have gotten them closer together. Of course, that includes many tangents to One Piece, Fiona’s favorite…everything?

    Building resilience

After a short hiatus, Anjali and Fiona are back to discuss a new value: resilience! They chat about how resilience can be associated with multiple categories, how to build resilience, and why Fiona doesn’t like the spelling of resilience.

  4. -2

    Creativity

Anjali and Fiona choose another well-known value: creativity. However, the two have different perspectives on it. Hear them discuss how creativity was enforced in their upbringing and its relevance now, and how they feel our society both limits and celebrates creativity.

  5. -3

    Love languages

Coincidentally in time for Valentine’s Day, Anjali and Fiona analyze their relationships (not just the romantic kind), through the lens of the 5 love languages: words of affirmation, physical touch, quality time, gift-giving, and acts of service. They reflect on their top languages, how these appear in relationships, and which ones make them uncomfortable.Quiz: https://5lovelanguages.com/quizzes/love-language

    Practicing gratitude

Anjali and Fiona conduct a surprisingly uncomfortable and difficult experiment in preparing for this week’s episode on one of the most well-known values: gratitude. Appreciating our cultures

In the fourth episode of Note to Self, Anjali and Fiona talk about a shared value: culture. Choosing aspects of their own cultures, they reflect on how culture has shaped their lives and interests, and encourage others to feel empowered, not embarrassed, by their cultures.

    New year, new resolutions

For the first episode of the new year, Anjali and Fiona reflect on 2024 and chat about their New Year's resolutions for 2025, including their goals and aspirations

    Assessing our values

Development editor Anjali Singh and opinion writer Fiona Paterson describe the origin story of the podcast and dive into discussing a values, questions, and excercise worksheet. This includes what it means to be goal-oriented vs. value oriented, what values feel the most important to them, and what they consider "values."
