EP1 Dr. Thomas Tuloup: Genesis Of Our Universe & Lifecycle Of Stars
“The cosmos is within us. We are stardusts contemplating the stars.” In the inaugural episode of this moonshot project where I traverse the multiverse to learn just about everything under the sun, I invited Dr. Thomas Tuloup to shed light on the genesis story of our universe.Dr. Tuloup obtained his PhD in quantum computing from National University of Singapore (NUS) where he spent most of the spare time orbiting around the stars. We spend the first half of the show discussing his academic odyssey, motivation, and general nature and properties of the “knowledge industry” past and present. In the second half, we embark on an interstellar journey from the Big Bang to the foreseeable demise of our solar system. The latter, we realized, will likely also spell the “orbituary” of our camaraderie, as our reincarnated particles drift towards different star systems - making the commute an astronomical ordeal. Enjoy our conversation!Timestamps(00:00:00) Introduction(00:10:50) The Mechanism of Scientific Progress(00:18:45) Incremental Knowledge Production Now vs Then(00:25:45) Motivation and Role Models(00:29:05) How To Discover Your Passion(00:33:08) The Beginning of The Universe(00:40:30) Thermonuclear Fusion: A Star Is Born(00:46:38) Formation of Galaxies(00:49:00) The Lifecycle of Stars and Death of Sun(00:50:39) Countdown To Extinction(00:56:00) Quest For A New Planet(01:00:40) Supernova: Runaway Nuclear Fusion(01:12:10) Can Earth Outlast The Sun?(01:14:50) Atomic Reincarnation: A Reflection on ExistenceDisclaimer: This podcast is an independent personal project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any employer or organization.
