Voter Suppression, Church Battles, and Why You Shouldn’t Read the Comments
Hello. It is Wednesday. And for those of you who are new here, I’m Laura and I’ve officially reached the point in my life where I get to do whatever I want. The video / audio is available to you, but below the bullet points is also the readable version for the babes who like to read words on the screen. In this episode, we’re talking about: The Texas Senate primary and what went down between Jasmine Crockett and James Talarico The backlash creator Morgan faced after calling out comments about Colin Allred Voter suppression in Texas, and why that conversation matters nationally Why misogynoir keeps showing up when Black women run for higher office How Senate seats in “red states” still impact your “safe blue state”The Anglican Communion split, GAFCON, and conservative churches pushing back against women and LGBTQ inclusion We learn about the Episcopal Church’s progressive policies on gender identity protections Why you absolutely should not read the comments if you go viral (seriously don't) Plus yes, we’re talking (I mean, I'm ranting) about patriarchy in the church and how you should just leave Black women alone. Because apparently that fight is still very much alive. And before you spiral in a comment section somewhere: protect your energy. You are not required to argue with strangers on the internet. If the algorithm benefits from them yelling? Cool. Let them type. I got laid off. I applied to hundreds, maybe thousands, of jobs I was overqualified for. Nothing stuck. I'm not a super woo-woo girlie but I am a little woo-woo. At some point I thought... Maybe that’s s sign. Maybe I don’t belong in corporate spaces anymore. Fuck 'em. The financial stress of not having a big girl corporate job with big girl corporate money is real. But outside of that it’s so fucking freeing not answering to a corporate overlord. If you have a traditional job, you can’t just hop on LinkedIn and say whatever you want. I can. (I call Rick Scott a little bitch every day.)That’s why this exists. I’m going to say the things not everyone else can. We need people who can start conversations and push ideas forward. And we need community to support that work. That’s how this is supposed to function. And I am so grateful for those of you who are here reading my words. Thank you. The Texas Senate Primary HappenedLet’s talk about the Texas Senate primary between Jasmine Crockett and James Talarico. There is a creator, Morgan, who has been doing serious on-the-ground and online civic education work in Texas. I love her.Morgan (you can find her social links below) has been motivating people to register, vote, and understand how the system works. She breaks down complicated civic processes in ways that make sense to folks who haven't been as active as they probably should or could have been. I highly suggest following her on your social platform of choice. But if you harass her in any way I will hire an Etsy witch to poop in the top part of your toilet. You've been warned. Anyway, during the campaign, she posted about Talarico referring to Colin Allred as a “mediocre Black man.” In trying to relate to Black voters, and a Black woman specifically, he disparaged a Black man. It was weird and gross. Here’s the video. The harassment she received after posting was intense and she had to turn off comments. And yes, much of it came from white folks. Most of it. Here’s what frustrates me most... Black voters will still show up for Talarico in the general election because he is better than any Republican option. Black people have historically voted for their survival which, spoiler alert, benefits us ALL. If the roles were reversed? If Jasmine Crockett had committed a similar misstep? White voters would not offer that same grace. I hate that for all of us and we need to keep having conversations with fellow white folks about their misogynoir when it relates to our votes. Talarico won the primary. From what I’ve read, he’s considered progressive and I truly I hope that holds up. Texas deserves meaningful, progressive change. Republicans have ruined that state. One of the most encouraging parts of the primary was Morgan in Dallas County and Black Girls Who Brunch in Harris County creating a friendly competition to drive voter turnout. That energy was inspiring and has me eying my own nearby counties to see who wants to do the same for Florida's upcoming Senate and Governor's races. Texas now has more than 18.6 million registered voters for the March 2026 primary which is a record high. Harris County alone added nearly 195,000 voters over four years. Let's. Fucking. Go. Morgan also made it clear that voter suppression, not identity, is the real barrier. A Black woman could absolutely win in Texas and the reason people assume she can’t is because they don’t show up. We need to all show up. When Black women push for more power the tone shifts. People loved Jasmine Crockett when she was sparring with Marjorie Taylor Greene in a delightfully petty way. But he moment she ran for higher office the perception of her shifted. It's not an accident. Here’s Morgan speaking directly on voter suppression in Texas. If you’re in a blue state thinking this doesn’t affect you, it does. Senate seats shape national policy. The decisions ripple across state lines and it matters who is elected for national seats even in your safe blue progressive state. And if you want states like Texas to shift, you must amplify the voices already doing the work. You register, you show up, you vote based on who makes your community safer and stronger and make sure that your family and friends and church members and whoever are all doing the same. We ow it to our neighbors to set aside the apathy and vote in a way that helps them. The Anglican Girlies are Fighting! Progress vs. PatriarchyA coalition of conservative Anglican churches is meeting to elect a leader to rival the Archbishop of Canterbury (a woman!), deepening the theological split within the Anglican Communion. I found this fascinating and I wanted to know more. It wasn't what I assumed. The Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON), formed in 2008, represents many conservative churches, primarily in Africa and Asia. They do not like the liberal shifts in parts of the Communion, including the ordination of women and greater LGBTQ inclusion. They protested the Church of England’s appointment of its first woman Archbishop of Canterbury, Sarah Mullally. Which is... weird? Why isn't a woman qualified to hold that position? I also learned that the Church of England is called the Mother Church which is definitely not weird at all. Meanwhile, the Episcopal Church has taken progressive steps toward inclusion and affirming LGBTQ members. They've even incorporated gender identity protections into church law including mandating that preferred names and pronouns are included on church forms. I was surprised to read about this but pleasantly so! So the conflict is about non-traditional patriarchal leadership. It’s about LGBTQ inclusion. It’s about whether institutions evolve or double down on their outdated conservative bullshit. Patriarchy doesn’t help anyone (even men) but it’s deeply embedded into our world and when progress happens, there’s always backlash. Good on the Episcopalians and I hope to see more progressive change happen within all religious spaces. Don’t Read the CommentsLast point. If you go viral, do not read the comments. No seriously, don’t. It's not worth your energy I promise. The insults are recycled, tired, and frankly not even insults. The labels don’t make sense (liberal and communist are not synonyms, Timothy). Sure some accounts are bots and some are influenced by coordinated astroturfing campaigns designed to flood comment sections with repetition until it feels like consensus. The repetition is powerful and it can trick the brain into thinking something is widely accepted, even when it’s manufactured. No one is immune to it but man to the conservatives really fall for it. And hard. You are not required to argue with strangers on the internet. In fact I encourage you not to. If you are a content creator and the engagement pays your bills, fine, do what you gotta do. But if you’re a regular person with limited energy I urge you to use it not on internet strangers. They don't care about your logical and rational explanations. You will not change the mind of someone who does not respect you and how can they when they're slinging lame school yard insults your way? Protect your energy and instead se it to register people to vote. Talk to the relatives who actually know you. Invest your time where influence for progressive change in people (even if it is incremental) is possible. And if the comments boost the algorithm? Let them type. My analytics look great, actually. And if that's what it takes to pay my bills y'all can call me a Lesbian Poet (whatever that means) all day. So here’s the real question: Where are you putting your energy right now?LinksPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/OkayishAFTiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@okayishafInstagram:: https://www.instagram.com/okayishaf/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/OkayishAFHire me: https://okayishaf.com/vibesMorganThreads: https://www.threads.com/@morganbetalkinIG: https://www.instagram.com/morganbetalkin/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@morga_ttArticles referenced:Conservative Anglicans to pick rival leader, widening Church riftsAnglican Communion MissionAnglican Communion on Gender JusticeHRC Stances of Faiths on LGBTQ+ Issues: Episcopal ChurchTexan James Talarico becomes a fresh face of Democrats’ midterm hopes after Senate primary winLive results: Allred seeks to oust Johnson in Texas House primaryYour Local Election HQ: How many people are registered to vote in your county?

Ep 08: The Kākāpō Episode
In This EpisodeThis week’s episode is a heartfelt deep dive into the world’s cutest, and most lovable flightless parrot. In fact, it is the only flightless parrot! Inspired by reporting from the Associated Press and conservation work led by New Zealand’s Department of Conservation, this episode explores how a rare bumper berry season is giving the critically endangered kākāpō a shot at population growth. We talk about what makes these birds so adorable, why their survival depends on very specific environmental conditions, and how humans are actively working to keep them from disappearing. Let's just cut to the chase here this is me gushing over a bird for like 10 minutes with some education sprinkled in. You're welcome. LinksAP Article: https://apnews.com/article/kakapo-flightless-parrot-breeding-new-zealand-birds-9b3e6532cd17331831b0fd3aa41ee41fgl=1ch3idaup*MQ..gs*MQ..&gclid=CjwKCAiA2PrMBhA4EiwAwpHyC5vGFpaNAVs6P-4QfU0QklHe3LqenGNwZn9yi-lOvqHzUOQktHjh2hoCOlsQAvDBwE&gbraid=0AAAAAC5L6PA0GB64MMHZ9kC4vJQjoTgJL Department of Conservation: https://www.doc.govt.nz/our-work/kakapo-recovery/what-we-do/kakapo-cam-live-from-the-nest/ Rakiura Live Feed: https://www.youtube.com/live/BfGL7A2YgUY?si=FRbQPPyawri6GHkI Kākāpō mating call: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6IEk57nYb8o Bumper crop info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bumper_cropReadable version:Nobody talk to me. The kakapo are breeding. Hello everyone. I am very tired. Having a uterus is a scam and I will never forgive my father for not giving me a Y chromosome. Coco wasn’t eating for a few days so I had to take her to the emergency vet, which sucked, and my depression has been intense. Everything’s fine now, she’s eating, her bloodwork was fine, and she’s taking her meds. I just want her to be okay. I’m still in pain, still tired, and this is a one-woman show, so please forgive the lack of content lately.I sometimes scroll the AP oddities section because we need news that isn’t doom and gloom, and I found an article about New Zealand’s flightless parrot being in a rare mood for romance thanks to a bumper berry harvest. A bumper crop just means an unusually large harvest of wild berries, which matters because baby kakapo rely on them to survive. Somehow the birds know when this will happen and time their breeding around it. They can go years, even decades, without successful breeding and almost went extinct partly because humans introduced predators like cats and dogs etc to their islands. The kakapo is the only flightless parrot in the world, it lives on the forest floor, and it’s fucking adorable. I just love it so much. People thought they were extinct in the 1970s, but small populations were found on remote islands and conservationists began tracking them and protecting the species. They’ve moved many to predator-free islands and are carefully managing breeding to keep genetic diversity strong. Over the last thirty years the known population has grown from around fifty birds to over two hundred, and with this bumper berry season things are looking hopeful. They monitor the eggs, track the birds, and even run live nest cams. I love love love watching this little girlie pop in her burrow. It's my new favorite thing to do. Okay so bird mating is weird. We know this. The males dig shallow bowls in the ground and make these deep booming sounds to attract females, followed by metallic chirping noises that supposedly sound like rusty springs. It’s so silly and I love them. You can watch them online and learn their stories, and honestly it is the best thing that's happened all day. There are still humans doing good things. Sometimes you just have to read about birds and bumper crops and badly pronounce names until you find a little joy. It really can be that simple thought it isn't always. I know this is short. I’m still dealing with pain, depression, life, finances, and parenting, and I’m trying to stop isolating, which is so very very hard. Going forward, the podcast and newsletter are being combined so the newsletter will be a readable version of the podcast each Wednesday. Patreon members will also get early access to upcoming videos before they go public. Editing takes time and energy and I’m just one person doing it all so thank you for being here and for understanding when I need a break. Before you go, tell me your favorite animal. Mine is now the kakapo. I will be obsessed with this bird forever. Thanks for being here. I appreciate you and I’ll see you next time.

Ep 07: I Don't have Any Answers At All
In this episode I talk about my new ADHD YouTube fixation, CC Suarez and how some of her videos got me thinking about what the line is for what you will tolerate from people you associate with. Is buying from Amazon a deal breaker for you? Is someone going to Starbucks or Target or still drinking Coke something you can't look past? I also talk about Discord's announcement that they will require age verification or default you to a teen level setting starting in March. I read a bunch of policies to you but alas, I have no answers. For any of it. It's all one big thought experiment and I am just here on this ride with you. For the folk who prefer to read rather than listen: I will have a paragraph style format up of this podcast shortly. Thank you for your patience! This week I talk about the Grammys and some key take aways from what artists are standing up to fascism and which are deafeningly silent, including reflecting on how some of my favorite bands have not said anything. I also gab a bit ab out Texas district 9 Democratic upset and and try to get you to get your friends to vote (GO REGISTER TO VOTE RIGHT NOW). I also am THRIVING with the cold weather in Florida. I talk about Depressed While Black and why you should donate to and support their work during Black History Month and all year long. Like, truly, it really does. January 434th. And we're finally in February. Happy Black History Month. And what a way to start Black History Month then turning out for the Grammys. I didn't watch the Grammys, but I was following the highlights. My favorite thing to do is not actually watch things as they're happening live. I kind of watch them through the filter of commentary, through specific people that I enjoy listening to. And so there are TikTokers that follow pop culture, and they'll break down the Grammy outfits and the wins and performances and tributes and stuff. And I'll watch through that sort of lens. I don't really care. I like the music that I like. I find it interesting to see who wins what and what speeches people are making, what performances and collaborations are happening, but someone winning a Grammy doesn't really mean a lot to me. It doesn't change my life in any way. I also don't really get excited about celebrities. There's that there's a trend on TikTok or whatever that's like, what if your favorite celebrity was in the Epstein files and like... Y'all have a favorite celebrity? (I don't.)I was happy to see Kehlani won a couple of Grammys, and good for them. They really deserved those. And they announced in their speech, I think that there's a new album coming out in March that's exciting. And of course, Kehlani stood up for marginalized people and said, fuck, ICE. They said in an interview on the red carpet that there's too many powerful people in that room for them to not say something, and it's so easy to do. It's so easy to do when you have that much money, that much power, that many connections and success. It's not hard to say anything. By contrast, I find it very interesting that everybody's favorite blond lady hasn't said anything. Taylor Swift went from Miss Americana to silence. And it's deafening. It's interesting because her fans are so weird. I saw a post on threads this morning that said that, they could tell that, like Taylor's silence and her "not showing up to awards shows means that she's grieving too. She's grieving this country too." And I was just like. Girl, what? How do you get to a place where you are so obsessed with someone you don't know? That you make up delusional excuses for them to fit whatever narrative you want to put them in to excuse yourself from defending a shitty person.I think it was 2016. Miss Americana came out and she's sitting around like I think with her parents and her team and was like, "I can't not say something. I have to say something. He might win the election." And now either that was bullshit or, her views have completely changed. She's one of the richest women in Hollywood, in music, in the world. And has so much sway and power and influence with people. Why wouldn't she use it for good? She doesn't have to. But you have to ask yourself, why wouldn't you? A self-proclaimed feminist. Why wouldn't you want to?And I love that Kehlani does. Always. I'm going to link down below, a music video where Kehlani dedicated the video to the people of Palestine. It's incredible. It's very well done. And, they are what I would prefer my daughter aspire to rather than anything to do with Taylor Swift, to be honest. Bad Bunny got album of the year. That's very exciting. I don't listen to his music. But people who are fans of Bad Bunny are obsessed with his music. And I'm excited that he's the first Latino to ever win album of the year, which is incredible. Very happy for the people of Puerto Rico to have one of their own take home that win. It's an exciting year for him because he's also going to be headlining the Super Bowl and he recently said that he wasn't going to be doing any, tours in America because he didn't feel like that was safe for his fans due to the ICE raids. And I'm looking at some of the synthwave folks that I like and they're still doing tours -- especially tours in Florida -- and they haven't said much. And again, you don't have to. But it does send orange flags that you're going to come to Orlando, a place where they're trying to actively build another concentration camp where Ice raids are happening all the time. I don't know how you can't say something. To signal that people will be safe or like, are you having conversations with the venues on how they're keeping people safe? Are you choosing venues that will keep people safe? I mean, you can call me the too woke friend all you want to, and I think that people deserve to enjoy things. And also, I want to support artists who are looking out for the best interests of the people. And sometimes when I look at what some of these other artists are doing and saying publicly, it's really tough. An Instagram post is not hard. Do you know what things are hard a Democrat winning in a Republican district in Texas. I am so excited for district nine and Texas. There was a special a special state election there. Taylor Rehmet Won by 14 points over the Republican competitor. He's only going to be there for 11 months, but. If a Democrat in a county that that voted for Trump by 17 points in the last election. Can win by 14 points. That's an indicator of where we're going to go. And I hope it is. I hope it is. Texas has a Senate seat coming up for grabs this year. I'm rooting really hard for Jasmine Crockett to win that seat. That that would be incredible for the people of Texas. We also have a Senate seat that's coming up this year in Florida. There's a few different people. Alex Vindman. Trump whistleblower announced his campaign. He raised like $1.7 million with the first day. And then Angie Nixon is also running, and Angie has been in the state, Congress for years. And she's an incredible lawmaker. Really excited for her to run. We'll be voting for her in the primaries. I think that she has the experience and the care for Florida that that we need and deserve. And I'm really, really excited for her campaign. Taylor Rehment's opponent. her name is so stupid, Wambsganss, it's a stupid name. I'm so sorry. She was quoted, I believe, in the Texas Tribune or somewhere. I read that she said that a low voter turnout was the reason why Republicans lost too many Republicans stay at home. And this just echoes what a lot of Democrats have been saying. Just look at Zohran Mamdani Winning in New York. Like when, when we show up to the polls, we win. But we have to show up. We have to show up. So your homework, as always, on top of calling your congresspeople, is to get up and fucking register to vote.Go to Vote.org to check your voter registration, all of the facts on on voting -- it's very, very easy, especially if your state has mail in voting. They will mail you a ballot, you can sit it on your phone or your tablet or computer, look up the candidates, look up the judges, look up any of the laws might be on the ballot, take your time filling it out. And then what I do is I go drop it off at my precinct. I don't trust it. I need to physically put it in the little box. And then I get my sticker and then all is right with the world. It's been cold here in Florida. It snowed in parts of Tampa Bay where I am. It hasn't done that since the 70s in Tampa, I think. I'm thriving. I'm so excited. I love the cold. The only thing I don't love is the little cough-y and my throat's a little slimy. It's it's because my body is producing extra mucus because it's so dry. I don't have a humidifier because I live in Florida, and we don't need that shit here most of the time. But it dropped into the 30s the last two nights here which is sort of rare. There are iguanas falling out of trees. People are like waking up to ice on their car down here. We had to turn on our faucets so they wouldn't freeze. I remember growing up in north central Florida, about two hours north of where I am now during the winter. We would have to turn on our faucets and it got it got cold enough to freeze. It got chilly for long periods of time. But down here in like, south central Florida or southwest Florida, it doesn't it doesn't really do that. But oh, man, it was very exciting. There's two kinds of Florida people -- no, there are three kinds of Florida people. There are Florida people who hate the cold gets below 70 and they're grumpy. They're mad. The heat is on and the heat is set to 70 degrees. Now, if you're northern, if you're a northern person, you're like, that's crazy. But the heat is on and it's cranking. And then you have the Florida people who are cool with the cold because they know it's not going to last. We will take any reprieve from the heat and humidity that we can get. I'm going to enjoy this weather while we have it, because I know in a few months it's going to be fucking miserable. And I hate that for me.But then you have the transplants, the people who moved from the north and down here who know that how cold it is down here, and know that not all Florida people are wimps, that it does get cold when it's cold. It's fucking cold. The humidity does something to you down here. It's different. There's so many TikToks that I saw of people from Philadelphia, Chicago, New York, and they moved down here and they're like, "I would rather be home than deal with the 20 degrees in Florida. I would rather be back home with the wind chill and the snow. It doesn't last very long is the thing. We don't have the longevity of it. It's not going to be like this for months. Next week, there's going to be a few days that are going to be in the 70s, and the low will be in the 50s. It doesn't last very long, but it it is cold, but I'm thriving. It's like 38 degrees outside right now as I'm recording this. I haven't turned the heat on in my house and like since I moved in here five years. I love it.Also, it's Black History Month. All month long I'm going to be sharing posts from depressed while Black. Depressed While Black helps to raise funds and collect items for psychiatric patients who don't have the self-care items that they deserve. It is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded by Imade in 2014. She is incredible. I have had lots of conversations with her. She's so supportive and lovely and wonderful and I just want all of the success for her this month and always. As someone who has been to a psychiatric hospital against my will. But it happened. When I was there, I had nothing. You don't get to like when you're admitted. You don't get to just like, pack your stuff you just you go and you're stuck with whatever's there. Luckily, I was in a room with a girl who chose to be there, and she shared her toiletries and stuff with me so I could shower. But I didn't have a change of clothes I didn't have shampoo, I didn't have soap. They don't give you anything. People who are in psychiatric facilities deserve to have those things because they're not provided to them. They also provide things like activity books and Black children's books and hygiene products and feminine hygiene products and anything that you would need to make your stay more comfortable that wouldn't be provided to you otherwise. It is an amazing way to show care for people who deserve it. Because sometimes when you're in a facility like that, you don't think anybody gives a shit. It's incredible the work that she is doingAs always, I want to give a shout out to all of my Patreon. Some of you have really showed up. I went on a campaign on social media to get 150 Patrons at $10 a month. That's my goal for this year. That's what I want. That would help me to continue doing this and to continue to do more projects, see my daughter stay housed. It would be so fulfilling to be able to put my whole pussy into fighting fascism and helping others find their footing when it comes to resistance, because most people are just getting into advocating for change for the first time. And I don't think that Black women should be hand-holding anybody anymore. It's up to white women to grab other white women's hands and say, okay, let me walk you through this. Let me, let me help you get into this pool with the rest of us and help others from drowning. Let me teach you how to swim so that you can help save others. And so that's my goal. And as of today, we only need 145 more people have joined at the $5 tier in the $15 tier. And it has been so lovely to see so many people in the Patreon. There's also a postcard tier, and I'm really excited. I'm using. I have these if you're watching the video on Patreon or YouTube, you can see. So everything is connected. I've had these for years and just haven't haven't had a reason to send them out. But they have like they have like little activities on the postcards for all the people who receive them. So if you are on the postcard tier and I send this to you, and it has a little activity, please go into the group chats and, and show me the activity that you did with your postcard. I'm really excited for it.Thank you to all my Patreon members. It was. This is possible because of you and I'm so so so grateful. Also, special shout out to my Twitch community who has. Really stepped up and made sure I was taken care of. The last couple of years I. Am so grateful and thankful for y'all.I posted a video. Luigi Mangione, for those of you who don't, just briefly, before we end the podcast, Luigi had federal murder and weapons charges dropped, which means that they can't seek the death penalty for him. So I posted about that. It got removed from TikTok because I'm celebrating. Whatever TikTok, it's fine. But on Facebook, one of the, one of the comments was like, "if he ever gets out, I'll kill him myself." I'm like, okay, Brad, sure you will. If you say so. Like it's so stupid. And then another one was like, "he killed my boss. It's not right!" Like, what do you mean? What do you mean he killed your boss? No, he didn't shut up. And then another one was like, "you're next." I was like, you're not even real, Russell. You're not even a real person. Russell. What do you mean? The comments are so unhinged from. Just from some of them are bots. Some of them are real people. But it is all just wildly unhinged and weird and silly. So every time I get one, like, I usually just block and delete, the comments because I'm not I'm not going to argue with Nazis, but I just think about my Twitch community and how much they have my back, and that shit would never fly in a live chat. It would never fly in a live chat on Twitch. They only do it in comment sections on Facebook because they know it's going to get buried and only the conservatives are spending that much time on Facebook. I go on to delete comments.Anyway, all my social links will be down below. All of the things that I talked about and the articles that I've referenced in the in this episode will be down below as well. Please donate to Depress While Black. Please join the Patreon if you have the if you can join in a paid tier, otherwise join in a free tier. That's totally fine. I hope you guys are staying warm out there and we will see you next week.

Ep 05: There Aren't Enough Men Like Alex Pretti
This week I talk about the murder of Alexi Pretti and why it hit me so hard. I show up messy and exhausted and imperfect. I talk through the tough emotions and realizations and give white men a bit of a brow0 beating (sorry but it still has to be done). I also outline thoughts on the contrast with how Alex Pretti and Breonna Taylor (both health care workers) are being remembered. You also get a pep talk from me on getting your ass in hear and being part of the solution. Ep 04: Hey So It Only Needs To Make Sense To Me For Me To Do It
This week I talk about The Button Girl from Tiktok and the lessons that a simple comment about collecting 365 buttons can teach us. Including but not limited to keeping your feelings in your journal's and out of Black women's comment sections. There is also a reintroduction for the new folks after going viral on Instagram and TikTok (which is hell, actually). Ep 03: We Can All Be Bigger B*tches
This week you get to see the angry OkayishAF. The side of me that my community affectionately calls "mother." The side of me that needs a hecking butt kicking in the same way I'm sure you do. We have work to do after the murder of Renee Nicole Good. And it's long, long over due. Black women warned us and we didn't listen. We're here now. This is what we can do next. Ep 02: Cardi B, Capitalism, and Catching Planes
This week, I spiral (in a fun way) through Cardi B’s Am I the Drama album. Then we pivot (hard) into the realities of surviving on $16 an hour in Florida, the mental toll of hustle culture, and why I’m done letting capitalism tell me what “success” looks like (and you should, too).Somewhere in between, Diane Keaton dies, Ian Watkins gets what’s coming to him, and I get weirdly excited about Sky Cards. We close with a big one: why mental health has to come first, and why the report feature on social media apps (especially Meta) are the last place you should go to help someone who is struggling with their mental health. It’s messy. It’s honest. It’s very OkayishAF.In This Episode:Cardi B’s Am I the Drama review (sort of)The nuance of celebritiesSurviving on $16/hour in Florida and the quiet crisis no one wants to talk about“Sky Cards” and how chasing digital planes somehow became my serotonin fixMeta, mental health, and the total lack of empathy in corporate cultureThe weird comfort in being a little broke but deeply self-awareAlso Featuring:Diane Keaton (RIP, apparently?)Ian Watkins (rotting, thankfully)Stuff I Talked About:Sky Cards AppOkayishAF PatreonOkayishAF TwitchTrigger Warning: Mentions of capitalism fatigue, workplace burnout, celebrity death, and general economic despair.

Ep: 01 Hyacinth Bucket, Taylor Swift, and Other Disappointments
In the debut of OkayishAF Does Whatever She Wants, Laura kicks things off by mourning the legend Patricia Rutledge before immediately pivoting to roast Taylor Swift’s newest album for sounding like a Nick Jr remix pack with a heavy dash of racism. She goes deep on celebrity worship, why billionaires shouldn’t exist, and why “mature” women probably shouldn’t still be writing songs that punch down on other women. Then it gets personal Laura reflects on surviving her suicide attempt ten years ago, the life she’s built since, and the weird beauty of letting go of perfectionism, potential, and parasocial bullshit.Trigger Warning: Discussions of suicide, celebrity assault allegations, and general cynicism about pop culture. In This Episode:Remembering Patricia Rutledge The Taylor Swift “Showgirl” album rant you didn’t know you neededThe unholy trinity of celebrity stans, billionaires, and moral amnesiaSynthwave for Palestine and actually supporting something worthwhileA decade of survival and finding the right communityMentions & Links:Synthwave for Palestine on Bandcamp OkayishAF Patreon Chinese children dance: The Tortoise and the HareOpen Mike Eagle - Celebrity Reduction Prayer (prod. Ep 0: The Introduction
I’m Laura, your anxious-agoraphobic-social-badass host who got chewed up by corporate America and spat out into the creator world. This episode is your warning label: if you don’t support trans rights, Black women, or actual free speech, you won’t vibe here (but you can still hate-listen, I don’t mind).Expect rants, politics, mental health talk, gaming nonsense, and probably too much about my current obsessions. Stick around… or don’t. I’m still doing whatever I want.

ABOUT THIS SHOW
This is OkayishAF Does Whatever She Wants a weekly podcast where I say the things some folks might be afraid to say, or can't say, with a mix of humor, chaos, and honesty. All I have is my time and my reputation. Come hang out with me while I spend my time talking about things I love and things that suck while doing my best to use my Karen powers for good. Expect talks on mental health, politics, gaming, books, creative work, and why corporate America can kiss my Okayish ass. If you’re here for realness, community, and maybe some rants that sound like your inner monologue during that meeting that could have been an email you’re in the right place.Hate listeners welcome. Patreon plugs inevitable.Intro music by Rob Panico.
