Stand- Up to Theatre: A Comedians journey into Acting with Jacob Hulland. Part 1.
This week we’re joined by Jacob Hulland, a performer with experience across stand-up, theatre and immersive performance. After studying Comedy: Jacob went on to make his professional acting debut in 2022 on The Polar Express Train Ride on the South Devon Railway, playing both the Hobo and an Elf.Since then, he has founded his own children’s theatre company, Hedgehog Theatre, toured his adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking-Glass, and performs regularly in immersive theatre, murder mystery events, museums and bars. He’s also the writer of an animated comedy series, Eternally Rude, about an immortal alien determined to insult every intelligent being in the universe.This episode is part one of a two-part conversation. Championing Accessibility: one opportunity at a time with Katie Anna McConnell.
On this week's episode of Part of the Arts with me, Rebecca Godden, we have the wonderful Katie Anna McConnell.Katie Anna is an actress and dancer with multiple medical conditions. She uses mobility aids, including a power-assisted wheelchair and walking sticks, and is trained in musical theatre. She tours with shows primarily for young people and families, using drama to explore important topics like neurodivergency. Delivering access consultancy to companies working in arts and culture, Katie offers Disability Equality Training sessions- these cover a wide range of subjects to make the industry a more inclusive and accepting environment. Emma is originally from Middlesbrough and trained at the University of Cumbria, graduating in Musical Theatre and Dance Performance. She has undertaken many roles within theatre and whilst playing the role of Princess Fiona at Shrek's Adventure! London, she met her now husband Bobby, who was then playing the role of Shrek- how amazing is that! Emma is also a member of the West End Gospel Choir and has performed for King Charles. When Emma is not performing she teaches private singing lessons and is the Vice Principal and Comedy and Drama teacher at Pauline Quirke Academy in Richmond.
