Based in New York City, much of Zach’s career was spent at Atlantic Records, where he worked with artists such as Kelly Clarkson, Sia, Jason Mraz, Jason Derulo, Alex Warren, and Rob Thomas. Beyond mastering, he has played a key role in launching studio and technology initiatives, collaborating with music tech innovators like IK Multimedia and Lewitt Audio to develop next-generation creative tools. During his extensive career he constantly shifted gears between music industry and broadcast TV spaces, starting his career at EMI Music. Folayan is a seasoned entertainment professional with more than 25 years of experience nurturing the careers of some of the industry’s most promising producers, songwriters, and artists. She launched her career at the legendary Def Jam Records - while working in marketing and the label’s A&R department, she shaped albums like Method Man and Redman’s Black Out and DMX’s multi-platinum ...And Then There Was X.  She is also the founder of Grindstone, Inc., where she has consulted for global brands like Red Bull, and has helped artists achieve success through innovative strategies, resulting in collaborations with stars such as Mary J.     Episode 30 ft. Dr. Catherine Moore - Adjunct Professor of Music Technology & Digital Media at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music; Former Director of the NYU Music Business Program

    HAPPY NEW YEAR. Welcome to 2025!   Today is a little bit of a milestone for the show, it’s our 30th EPISODE here, and I have a VERY VERY special guest. Today I’m speaking with the legend herself, former director of the NYU Music Business program, Dr. Catherine Moore. Dr. Moore is currently Adjunct Professor of Music Technology & Digital Media at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music, where she emphasizes creating (and pitching!) value in business courses, workshop coaching, and consulting work. In her teaching, her focus is on new technologies for digital media distribution, music startups, and collaborative courses that bring students in user-experience design, computer science, and music together. And as I previously stated, Dr. Moore also taught at NYU from 1995 to 2016, directing the Music Business Program for many years. Her focus there was on price strategy, strategic marketing, business development, A&R music evaluation, and international expansion. It is an honor to have Dr. Moore on the show, and I thoroughly enjoyed hearing her story and having this conversation. Hope you enjoy it as well!

She graduated NYU with her Master’s in Music Business in Spring 2023, after graduating with her first degree in law from the University of Geneva in Switzerland.

His work on trending songs from Dixie, Dylan Conrique, and Strange Fruits Music has been featured in Business Insider, Music Ally, and led to panel appearances at the annual A2IM Indie Week conference.

    Episode 14 ft. Andrew” Nitty” Nitirouth - Professional DJ; Audio Engineer @ Antenna Studios; Sessions Director @ Anti-Social Songwriting Camp

    Andrew "Nitty" Nitirouth is a recent graduate from NYU's Music Business master's program [2023]. He is a professional DJ with over 8 years of experience, having performed at over 60 venues throughout his career with several Grammy nominated and DJ Mag Top 100 artists. Additionally, he is also a music producer and audio engineer, working at Antenna Studios in Brooklyn and Studio Square Recordings in Queens. Nitty is also the Sessions Director for Anti Social Camp - the largest songwriting camp in the world based in the heart of NYC - and will be returning to camp for his third year in summer 2024.

Christine has an extensive background in finance and accounting within the music industry, including e-commerce and fraud prevention, royalty reporting and auditing, and M&A activity.  Currently, she brings that experience and leadership to her role as CD Baby’s Chief Revenue Offer, where she is responsible for Business Development & Partnerships, Marketing, Product, and Trust & Safety. Christine has been at CD Baby for almost 18 YEARS, so when I met her during a roundtable at Music Biz 2023 in Nashville I knew I had to have her on the show!

Zach has totally pivoted to a career outside of music, but has used his degree from the program in super interesting ways as he's pursued his passions!

    Today's show is a big one! We've got a TWO HOUR episode with Xavier Jernigan - the Voice of Spotify as well as their Head of Cultural Partnerships. Now when I say the Voice of Spotify…I mean that literally. X is the voice and personality behind the world’s first AI DJ, Spotify’s newly launched feature that’s already changing the way the world listens to music. And as the Head of Cultural Partnerships, X is also a Spotify executive, as well as their go-to host for Spotify events around the world!

    On this episode I talk to Logan Regis a licensing coordinator for the NFL based in NJ. She got her start in the music business as an intern for RCA in their TV/Film soundtrack licensing department. Since graduating from NYU in 2019, she has occupied various roles from PROs to small labels.

    Sam Tall has been an artist manager and creator monetization expert for 12 years. Now, as Senior Director of Music & Content Operations at Studio71, Sam oversees content monetization and platform policy for a network of almost 900 YouTube creators, including some of the biggest names in music on YouTube, such as Boyce Avenue, Postmodern Jukebox, Pomplamoose, Allie Sherlock, Sam Tsui, and many more.

    On today's show, our guest is Brad Desmond. Brad is an artist manager living in Boulder Colorado. He got his start in the music business founding the Music Director position at Jackson Hole Community Radio in Jackson, WY, before leaving in 2010 to attend NYU for a masters in music business.  Since graduating he’s been a part of 11e1even Management, helping artists at all stages to navigate the music industry and build sustainable careers.

    On this episode our guest is Sul Lee, General Manager at JYP Entertainment - one of South Korea’s largest entertainment companies. JYP operates as a record label, talent agency, music production company, event management company, concert production company, and music publishing house. It’s home to notable artists like the groups 2PM, Day6, Twice, Boy Story, Stray Kids, and many more.   Sul has a great background in music distribution, international business, data, and many other disciplines!

    On this episode I interview Ty McKinnie, a singer-songwriter and self-taught guitarist from Atlanta, Georgia. An Atlanta native, Ty has been singing since the age of 6 years old, and since then, music has been the center of his life. Ty started writing music and uploading songs to SoundCloud and covers on YouTube. Inspired to turn his passion into action, in 2016, Ty moved to New York City to pursue his singing career and enrolled in New York University (NYU)’s Music Business program!

    On my very first episode, I interview Juelan Brown from Youtube. Juelan has a great background in music tech, data and analytics, as well as being a classically trained pianist!
