Grayshott Cricket Club launch appeal for better Pavilion facilities for women
Grayshott Cricket Club celebrates 130 years this year and has teams for all people and recently introduced walking cricket. Women’s involvement in cricket goes back a long way but facilities have lagged behind, so the Club, which is open to members from any area, recognising the explosion in womens' and girls' involvement is appealing for £10,000 to bring their pavilion facilities up to date, and they have just heard that Sports England will match-fund. Ladies Captain Al Gray, talking to Mike Waddington, speaks about getting involved in cricket and what the club offers different groups of people, including equipment. She says that with the Women's 20;20 World Cup coming up, there will be even more interest in the sport. Grayshott says get involved. The appeal closes in 30 days. In the Sportlight 10th May
A true David versus Goliath football story unfolds at the West Leigh stadium on Friday as Petersfield the Rams take on Portchester in the Portsmouth Seniors cup final. Portchester are massive favourites going into the game as they play in the league above Petersfield and also finished in the play off spots in their season campaign. Can a miracle unfold? https://www.petersfieldtownfc.co.uk/ . Also playing last weekend was the high-flying Petersfield women's first side who are sitting top of their league with just a handful of games to go. Farnborough look to spoil their party. Also in football, Liphook men's side have escaped relegation and play their final match at home against Stockbridge https://www.liphookunitedfootballclub.org/ . Churcher's College Grill Lecture: going wild for rewilding
Hundreds of people attended the annual Grill Lecture at Churcher's College on Wednesday 6 May to hear Isabella Tree, best selling author of Rewilding. which also won a number of literary prizes and made into a film. She spoke about how they revolutionised their 3,500 acre estate at Knepp in West Sussex by bringing back nature. Talking to Mike Waddington at the event, Isabella speaks with enthusiasm about unleashing nature's ways and means and the message of hope and joy that brings. Rewilding is a spectrum that anyone from farms to gardens can participate in and alleviate environmental problems. It also, maintains Isabella, breaks down the anxiety around dealing with problems of this scale. About the Churcher’s College Academic Lecture Series: designed to inspire curiosity and deepen understanding, each year, they welcome a wide range of visiting speakers - artists, scientists, entrepreneurs, philosophers, campaigners, - who challenge students to think critically, explore new ideas and engage with the wider world. A highlight of the series is the annual Grill Lecture, established by former Head of Religion and Philosophy Judy Grill and named in her honour. This lecture focuses on topics with a philosophical perspective. You can find out more about Knepp here: Isabella Tree - Knepp See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
