From Personal Goals to Societal Pressures: The Idea of Bucket List
Have you ever thought something was on your bucket list just because society expected you to want it? That's a feeling I can relate to. But here's the thing: the defense of my family is something I'm truly passionate about. And speaking of passion, one of my biggest inspirations is Fela Kuti - an activist who spoke truth to power through his music. I couldn't learn from someone who can't understand my household's decision-making process. Speaking of learning, we need to be careful about adapting something from somebody and taking it as the complete truth. Retaliation is often provoked when someone has been humiliated or wronged. And that's what I'm concerned about - the idea of waking up with the intention of taking someone's life. How do we determine what is ethical? In life forms outside of humans, we talk about the concept of a cycle. It's important to pay attention to even the simplest things. Like the homeless community, which might be a big part of the underground economy in the next 25 years. China is returning to the gold standard, which could have significant implications for the US economy. And let's talk about the normalization of death and killing - this is something I find hard to absorb. How could a concept like murder exist in a society without the awareness of its consequences? It's possible that people had a different understanding of it due to their environment. Cultural norms can shape our perception of what is acceptable behavior. There's something powerful about doing something that your father can see. But at the same time, it's possible to not care what your father thinks about you or your actions. One person in my life reminded me that people aren't aware of everything. And that's why I'm determined to accomplish something. I might have setbacks, but I know my military experience is just a part of the process towards my ultimate goal.
