Episode 97: Survivor Stories Matthew “The Narrator”

Welcome to 2026! We still haven’t left 1999 here at Podcast 99 as we continue our endless coverage of the notorious Woodstock 99 festival. Matthew remembers everything, against all odds. A true rock and roll veteran who survived both Woodstock 94 and 99. This is a killer way to start the year and one of the absolute beefiest survivor stories we have ever heard.

  2. 106

    Episode 96: Survivor Stories Daroyl

Welcome to 2026 and another year of Survivor Stories! Woodstock 99 lore continues to grow here at Podcast 99 and this year we start with Daroyl (misspelt by his mother). This guy is a well of information and has a great perspective on the festival. He also experienced a more than rare occurrence of some female attendees turning the tables on their male counterparts.

  3. 105

    Episode 95 Survivor Stories: Rees

Our latest survivor hails all the way from New Zealand and was lucky(?) enough to attend Woodstock 99. Not only does Rees remember a ton about his time at the festival, but he also got up every morning and ran up to 10 miles during it. This is a great survivor story to cap off the year, thank you all for listening, happy holidays and we will see you at Woodstock!

  4. 104

    Episode 94 – Survivor Stories: Jeff 2025

We got another Jeff! Jeff had never been to a festival before Woodstock 99, heck, he had only really been to less than ten concerts! Jeff and a buddy braved the road in a dying car to really just see Metallica, almost dying during Limp Bizkit was an added bonus.

  5. 103

    Episode 93: Survivor Stories- Oxy

Oxy’s story truly puts the “survivor” in “survivor stories.” At just 18 years old, Oxy flew to America from Hungary in order to attend Woodstock 99, alone, with $80, no tent, no nothin. Despite the odds being incalculably stacked against him, he flourished and had a great time seeing his all time favorite band, The Offspring.

  6. 102

Podcast 99 Episode 92 Survivor Stories Jason

This is a Mt. Rushmore episode folks. Jason was an admitted scumbag, one who left in a fury for Woodstock 99 after an argument with his girlfriend, who lied about where he was going in order to acquire the money, who had an affair while at Woodstock 99, and then had a life altering experience during Jewel that can only be described as, “transcendent.” This episode also listens less like a traditional episode and more what it sounds like when Ryan meets a Woodstock 99 attendee at the bar.

  7. 101

Episode 91- The 94 Diaries- Matt

You asked for it, you got it. This is the first episode of our new Podcast 99 side series “94 Diaries” where we speak with folks who were at Woodstock 94. Woodstock 94 is the forgotten Woodstock, but why? On this episode we speak with Matt who remembers everything from his time at Woodstock 94 and really shines a light on the little Woodstock that could, where mud was mud and water was free.

  8. 100

Episode 90: Survivor Stories – Jay

Holy cow folks, we got another one. This is top-tier survivor stories material here. Jay spent more time in the rave than perhaps anyone else we have interviewed besides Brooke. From mysterious pills, trauma inducing sights, poop, and staph infections, this story has it all. Buckle up and be sure to stay hydrated.

  9. 99

    Episode 89: Survivor Stories Jeremy

Jeremy attended Woodstock 99 with fellow survivor Joe and had a wildly different time than his soft spoken buddy. Jeremy, a self-described “fat guy and boob guy,” has a great story to tell complete with a trip to the swimmin’ hole and several hits of LSD during Limp Bizkit.

  10. 98

Episode 88: Survivor Stories Chris Goodwin

Chris is an accomplished comedy writer and overall rad dude, a rad dude that went to Woodstock 99. Chris’ time at Woodstock 99 was the inspiration for an episode of “Lucas Bros Moving Co” titled “Nutopia.” This is an incredibly cinematic retelling of one hell of a weekend.

  11. 97

Episode 87: Survivor Stories – Joe

Joe played it safe at Woodstock 99, saving his energy for his favorite bands. He even slept through the riots and woke up to what looked like a warzone. He also attended Woodstock 94 and had a very idyllic time complete with great music and a scary hitchhiker scenario.

  12. 96

    Episode 86: Survivor Stories – Phil A.

Phil was an avid music fan whose group of friends joined him at Woodstock 99 for what can only be described as a “nice time.” They created a fool-proof meeting system, they had zero trouble with security, they saw tons of music, and they got home safe. Despite all of that, this is an incredible survivor story that reminds us that there were good times had, and that is just fine.

  13. 95

    Episode 85: Survivor Stories- Gordo

On this edition of Survivor Stories we meet Gordo. Gordo was part of the live stream/PPV film crew. HIs job wasn’t to film the music at Woodstock 99 however, rather, he was charged with filming the craziest people and hi jinx they could find within the concert grounds. We encounter the red man once again and Gordo runs for his life during the chili peppers!

  14. 94

Episode 84: Survivor Stories- DIANA (From Wyclef Jean)

WE FOUND HER FOLKS! As you seasoned listeners know, one of our all time favorite Woodstock 99 sets is Wyclef Jean’s. It was absolute chaos from start to finish, complete with flying bottles, a guitar fire that didn’t happen, clueless band members wondering what he was going to tell them to play next, it had it all. The best thing the set had though, was DIANA. Diana was an up and coming singer who was given a chance to sing on stage with Wyclef and company, what happened next is the stuff of legends.

  15. 93

Episode 83- Survivor Stories: James B

Our newest survivor is James Boyd. James had the luxury of going to Woodstock 99 in an RV and also brought a video camera! His footage is as amazing as his story. Hitchhiking, ecstasy, lots of beer, and escaping the fest in cinematic fashion. There is also a good chance he crossed paths with one of our all-star survivors!

  16. 92

    Episode 82: Survivor Stories- Babu

Our latest survivor Babu had the unique experience of actually working at Woodstock 99. Employed by a veteran tie-dye shirt salesman, Babu got the all star treatment at Woodstock 99, showers, private bathroom, an RV, the works. However, all of the comforts of being a vendor at the festival quickly fell to the wayside when things take a turn for the worse on Sunday night.

  17. 91

    Episode 81: Survivor Stories- Lara

We always love a female perspective here on Podcast 99 and boy did we get a great one with our latest survivor Lara. Not only did she have a great time, do a little looting and a lot of partying,  but she is also our first self-proclaimed juggalette! This is a great story with a happy ending, and a happy beginning, but be warned, there is a dark chapter courtesy of the rave hanger.

  18. 90

    Episode 80: Survivor Stories- Meeps

In this installment of survivor stories we talk with Meeps, a gentle giant whose introspective look back at Woodstock 99 is truly something special. Meeps came for the heavies and drank mystery juice from a stranger, got free food courtesy of the monks, and was stranded at something now known as “aftershock.” This story has it all! There is some lineup confusing but due to the passage of time; we allow for simple mistakes.

  19. 89

Episode 79: Survivor Stories – Andrew

We are back with our first survivor story of 2024! Andrew had an overall pretty wholesome Woodstock 99 experience. He went with his father and his sister when he just a boy of 15 years old. Picture National Lampoon Vacation but with Limp Bizkit.

  22. 86

    Episode 76: Survivor Stories- Anthony

This is a fully stacked survivor story complete with medic tent visits, clear memory of events, fear, and fire. Anthony’s story is a great example of why we continue to do this show. How did he manage to score multiple free gatorades at a festival known for it’s price gouging? Tune in to find out!

Well folks, according to Ryan, this very well could be the mother of all Survivor Stories. Dave appeared in the often referenced by us Vh1 series “100 Most Shocking Moments in Rock and Roll” where he gives a brief jail house interview. Why was he in jail? Well, it’s because he got arrested at Woodstock 99. Other highlights include naked roller blading, toxic waste baths, and being front row for Korn.

  28. 80

Our survivor this week is Brad. Brad worked at Woodstock 99 as a runner for Pilar Law, Michael Lang’s assistant and was charged with such duties as picking up Jimi Hendrix’s sister from the airport, delivering celebrity announcer credentials, and vendor checks. 29. 79

Episode 69: Survivor Stories: Brett Katz

Brett wanted to be episode 69 in honor of Woodstock. We were happy to oblige. Brett was a bit of a cautionary tale. The phrase it’s a “marathon not a sprint” comes to mind. Episode 66: Survivor Stories: Nick

Nick is a Canadian Woodstock 99 attendee who seemed to have the best luck out of most of our survivors. Despite crowd surfing huge distances he always managed to meet up with his crew and managed to make it home in one dirt covered piece. He describes what it was like seeing hordes of Canadians flea the crowd to make room for Kid Rock fans as well as the difference between the George Clinton audience and the Korn audience.

  33. 75

    Episode 65: Survivor Stories: Christian

This week’s survivor is Christian. Christian spotted himself in the Netflix doc and the memories started flooding in. This is a classic Woodstock 99 tale that we are sure you will enjoy more than  Christian enjoyed his time at Woodstock 99.

  34. 74

Episode 64: Survivor Stories: Jen and Amy
