Happy to report that Jolie has a new career oriented podcast , called "Career Wanderlust", which I'm sure is LOADED with career advice for moving your best foot forward. Rebels, in all fairness, this is more than a book about a drug war. It's a snapshot. About drug-infested Miami in the 1970's, and the society around it, and Lt. Diaz's place in this battle. You wouldn't think that an event like this was actually possible, and yet, for 48 days in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania, this was a nightmare to law enforcement and the residents in the surrounding areas. In "Lying In Wait", Howard explores the terror that was inflicted on this area, along with explaining the mindset of a man dead set on waging war on his country. He even brought out a few points in the course of the interview about what we don't know what still lies out there. (And to be honest, none of these scary thoughts are enough to entice me to relax with a cup of tea and a few Mallomars. Maybe next month?) Nowadays, the Big Skinny man has been hosting YouTube videos spotlighting barbecuing. (And he's gotten skinnier...go figure!)But you know, that's gotta be yummy...nothing better than Texas barbecue, right? Interestingly enough, I've noticed that my thoughts on Michele's book are already mirrored in the Amazon reviews that are out. It was a real pleasure to get to know her for a little while, too, to hear about the fascinating life that she's led so far. After reading Joe's book, and getting to know him for a little bit, I do hope that this case can be brought to a conclusive end, Not only for closure for Joe, but for all of the families of the victims of the Tylenol murders. How great was it to get an email from a fascinating artist with a podcast to promote? Sure beats those emails that I get from people who tell me that they love my book! (Spoiler alert:I've never written a book. Unless they've stolen my coloring books from the Sherpa Chalet.) Before I interviewed John, or his co-author Jason Norman, I emailed them to let them know that the purpose of my interview was not to re-try the incident of March 30, 1981, nor was this a podcast with a political agenda. (If you read the book, politics didn't play a part in the assassination attempt on President Reagan, anyway) All I asked for was a conversation about the book,and nothing more. Both of them were kind enough to grant me that. Obviously, those of you who have listened long enough know that I'm no lawyer, psychologist, or political pundit. But this is what I do. I've always said the stories I bring to this podcast will likely appeal to different emotions. This is one of those episodes that will likely provoke different reactions from different people. I'm proud to say that I've always made the decisions about what goes into my podcast, and one thing I keep out is hate. I decided this would be a fun way to end 2025-with a rewind to a visit with a fin guest! Bet you didn't know that Billy did a voiceover as Groucho Marx for "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" in 2022, and published his plays that he wrote with his late writing partner, Jane, in a book titled," Because It's Funny" . Billy Van Zandt certainly fits the bill. It's a fun read, regardless. The writing style of the book is like how Billy was in the interview-straightforward, funny, interesting, and entertaining. My friend, super-publicist Steve Joiner, loves to break my chops about this episode. "How are you doing a card trick on an audio podcast?" he would ask. During the course of our interview, Dr. Clark made a statement that was so powerful in its simplicity, when it comes to cold cases: "Talk about it." Those three words are an inspiring reminder that there could be information that leads to these cold cases being solved. Her book covers the lives of numerous young women whose lives came to a sudden end, with no clear explanation. One can only hope that there will be someone who talk about these cases to shed new light onto their investigations. Her book gives these victims the dignity and humanity that they deserve, while presenting what is known about their cases. Rebels, I'm not quite sure why I kept on saying "spotlight on songwriting" and not "spotlight on songwriters", given how long I've been listening to this podcast, and have heard essentially all of their episodes.
