Her debut release on Balance delivers an exceptionally cerebral track that will sit flush in many sets. Also featured are four quality remixes that take in everything from deep techno, to breaks and more… The deep beat on 'Light Sweeper' is undeniable with its mysterious energy. Glacial synths sweep the top end while being punctured by pondering piano stabs. There is bipolar nature to the production: warm and enveloping in the lows yet cold and wintry in the highs. It's a steady rhythm intent on intoxicating you. The @audioglider remix reconstitutes the original into a thick, almost Amen breaks like direction. The synths are blown up to an optimal size and layered into a melodic sequence, keeping the original mystery. The breakdown is progressive house bliss, melancholy without being saccharine, before crashing back into the rhythm with added vocal by juSt b and soaring strings. @jameswelsh's deep techno take is filled with percolating percussive hits and melodic arps weaving in and out of each other with total abandon. Featuring a considerably bigger kick, this is one to kickstart the main room. The @mattrmusic remix starts off minimal with a deep meta physical engine, a hulking rhythm that slowly moves forward. Two separate breakdowns introduce a rising melody soaked in emotion, and the latter explodes into a 4/4 pattern that will sound divine on a dusty festival dancefloor. If you're after the perfect opening track, look no further than the elegant remix from @ev3rsun. With its delightful opening 2 minute sequence, it is one part ambient and one part secret waiting to be told. It breaks into a gentle rhythm that sets the mood for what's to follow.

Home to a host of iconic names and a sound that helped define the progressive house genre in the 2000s, his GMJ moniker has continued to shape the modern progressive sound. With over 400 production credits to his name, a century alongside long-term partner, Matter, GMJ has seen his music adorn the likes of Balance Music, Anjunadeep and Proton Music. Opening his solo account on Meanwhile with October 2020’s “Mood Medicine”, collaborative EPs with Matter have seen “Lost on Origin”, “The Path / Perfect Storm” and “Eldarin” light up the label, alongside remixes for Simos Tagias, Roger Martinez and Matter himself. Opening with the title track, “Empty to Fill” is a chunky, subterranean groove-fuelled monster. Bristling with menacing vibe, lighter moments come courtesy of floating synth motifs that glide to the fore in a stripped back breakdown of delicate keys and gloriously delayed sequences. A pulsating white-noise riser heralds a return of the club-friendly groove and gorgeous melodic flow in the latter stages. Continuing with the trademark rolling groove that watermarks the GMJ sound, “Door of Light” sparkles with arpeggiated backdrop and reverse-reverb vocal breaths. Evolving immaculately, stratified sonic layers flourish as they entwine together in organic fashion. Counterpoint motifs coruscate above pulsing white-noise swells as the aptly named track waxes and wanes in perfect dancefloor cadence, before reaching a rousing crescendo in an immersive sonic tapestry. The final piece sees the popping percussive vibrancy of “Stage Flight” sit atop a stereo-panned bass groove. Building over its 7-minute duration, syncopated synth riffs lock tightly into the driving framework that reaches its culmination with a chorus of breathy pads and a drop back into the rolling bassline and mirrored synth sequence. The resultant track is a powerful snapshot straight out of the GMJ production playbook. Chock full of rhythmic force and multi-faceted layers of sound, “Empty to Fill” displays a sparkling 24-carat hallmark of the GMJ sound.

High-frequency metallic synth plucks form a dynamic melody, making up just one element of a dense soundscape which also compiles a reverb-laden cymbal break, elated flutes and pitched-up vocal chops. The title track, together with ‘Forgot You’ strips things back a little, both driven by an understated deep house beat. ‘Bloem’ sees the EP at its most gentle with bubbly xylophonic tinkles that evoke the hypnotic allure of K-Lone’s ‘Cape Cira’ LP; whilst ‘Forgot You’ gets its melody from the low ends. ‘Forgot Me’ is its moody older sibling and the most minimal track of them all, showcasing the darker underbelly to Maroki’s sound with eerie underwater arpeggios and hollow percussion. This atmosphere sticks around for ‘Why’: an entrancing full-bodied breaks track sure to be closing DJ sets this Summer.

Although a distinct style of his own there’s a tingling beauty to his work that’s reminiscent of Bicep, Gidge or Christian Loffler. Consider it emotive electronica with the feels turned up to 11, which Mattr confirms wasn’t that difficult to achieve with the remix given the source, “One of the signature parts of the track is its haunting, top line pad, so I built the remix around that, adding my own mid whilst glitching-up the vocals to provide that all important edge. I had real fun updating this renowned Renaissance classic” Released in 1992, Mephisto's ’State Of Mind (Quiet Mix)’ was a standout during Renaissance's formative years at their legendary Venue 44 home in Mansfield. Its classic status was further compounded 18 months later when Sasha and John Digweed included it on the ‘Mix Collection Vol.1’ and introduced it to the ears of the wider world.

Two styles collide to create something unlike either, the results are explosive, raw and out-of-the-box. Monolog, an alias of Mads Lindgren since 1999, is famed for intense, densely layered noise-based experiments that push technological limits and fuse his diverse experiences in metal, noise, jazz and DnB. Collaborating with Aikin was a process of slimming his production style down, harnessing the mesmeric power of rhythmic repetition. First up is the immediately arresting 'Perception' with its flashes of synth, whirring drones and textured drums. Spoken words bring a sense of paranoia as twitchy effects, icy percussion and swinging drums all work you into a frenzy. Monkman took inspiration from a Timothy Leary interview for the record envisioning “a phrase repeating with a synthesizer response, in essence a conversation between man & machine”. Second cut 'Impulse' is a more groove-driven tune with kicks that rock back and forth under slapping hits. The synth designs are futuristic and the whole vibe is one of intergalactic exploration of the unknown. Both of these hugely accomplished tracks will bring a scene of cinematic drama to any set.

Then comes the gentle and tranquil electronics of ‘Alfred Stole My Brain’ both welcoming and meditative, while the swing in drums provide dance-floor functionality and set the pace. At 18, he left for Spain, where he became a resident DJ on the Murcia coast. He’s been on the move ever since, touring the world playing keyboard for the likes of Ladyhawke, Charli XCX, Mikky Ekko and UNKLE. He was also the first and lead bass player in The KLE side project Badger Kull and cut his teeth as an engineer at Metropolis and Strongroom studios in London, working many years with the bands Chronixx & Rudimental at their studio Major Toms in Hoxton. His inaugural dance music release came in early 2021 with a remix of Catch Me When I Fall from the Ronin I mixtape, which saw great support from John Digweed. After launching his own imprint Blank Dust with two EPs, he went on to release on Sasha’s celebrated Last Night On Earth with ‘Liquid followed by his Anjunadeep debut March 31st with the first single from his forthcoming After the Flow EP, entitled ‘Like I Used To’, featuring vocals from British singer-songwriter Låpsley.

Operating out of his Córdoba home at the foot of the Sierras Chicas, the Argentinean artist has made a name for himself with a sparkling array of original and remix production material. An accomplished guitarist from an early age, a move into dance music via house and techno ultimately led to a focus on the deeper rhythms and more considered melodic phrasing of progressive house. This attention to detail and talent in abundance has led Sellares to a host of high-profile imprints that include Paul Thomas’ UV, the Anjunadeep behemoth and fellow countryman, Antrim’s Or Two Strangers. The “Jinsei / Zen State” EP on Proton Music saw a remix from Bedrock icon, Nick Muir, while the Sebastian Sellares contribution to GMJ & Matter’s flagship Meanwhile imprint saw April 2021’s “Dunes at Dawn” take centre stage. A remix for GMJ followed two months later while a further for Alex O’Rion followed in February 2022. Now debuting on sister imprint, Meanwhile Horizons, the “Lost in Time” title track is driven by a gloriously intricate percussive groove that separates spaciously within the stereo soundstage. Gently pulsating pads herald a haunting motif that make its presence felt atop a deep bass groove, while a beautifully imagined guitar sequence ushers in a stripped back breakdown where melancholic chords and delicate string phrasing add to the aural collage. The complex rhythmic arrangement picks up the pace again in the second half, combing with the haunting melodic passages to wondrous effect. Characterised by heavy beat and a superbly placed off-beat percussion that fires off somewhere over the listener’s left shoulder, partner track, “Afterglow” builds with a sustained pad holding court in the mid-range while a cavernous bassline provides a perfectly syncopated groove. Evolving in sonic waves, mellifluous piano motifs flow unencumbered across the 8-minute piece, drenched in delays and reverbs whose tails stretch off over the sonic horizon. Rising and falling with consummate ease, a breakdown full of meticulously placed elements provides the perfect pause before the track eases into the third movement with metronomic beat and heavenly melody. Fully ensconced in the here and now, Sebastian Sellares has discovered an enduring melodic balance, “Lost in Time”.

On Stay, Joseph Ashworth presents a focused and considered body of work that displays a wealth of growth from his last full-length release Grain, released in 2015. The original intention wasn't to record a full-length album. An opportunity arose to create an AI project (AIMI) where elements of his unreleased work would be re-interpreted by machine learning to generate an ever-evolving music experience. This inspired Joseph to bring together years' worth of music for listeners interested in the cutting edge of technology, but also reminded Joseph of his love of the traditional 'album' format. So throughout 2021, and with less travel, Joseph created 10 tracks and meticulously edited and arranged them into a fluid, engaging listening experience. Joseph comments, "Stay is the connection of ten tracks I started over the past five years. Time and patience were key in the recording process, with an aim to make each track as unique and emotionally vivid as possible". The first track Kings, revolves around melancholy piano chords, propped up by crisp percussion and rich swells of string and synth pads - it outlines the album’s ambitious level of experimentation from the get-go. Then there’s the disco-tinged and synth-laden Fearless, while Carbonated leans towards techno; a flowing staccato synth line and a swampy, deep bass, which offers a stark contrast to the beautiful stripped back ambient track that follows, Dressed Up. The first single to be released from the LP, Pepper breaches full club-pumper territory, with an Italo-esque synth lead, chunky, forceful kicks and a chugging bassline. Loved You features metallic chords and an alien vocal that guides the listener through a rich sonic landscape and is reminiscent of the works of Aphex Twin and Squarepusher. It’s another landmark long player from one of electronic music’s most interesting talents. Stay takes the listener on a deep and stimulating journey, and although each of the tracks could hold their own as individuals, the album as a whole is lovingly crafted, expertly sequenced and could only be achieved by an artist with a true passion for their music. Joseph Ashworth’s highly acclaimed releases on Life & Death, Get Weird, Pets, ELEMENTS, and Needwant have helped him grow a reputable fanbase on both sides of the Atlantic, receiving support from all corners of the electronic music scene including Lee Burridge, Jonas Rathsman, DJ Tennis, Patrice Baumel, Kolsch and many more. It takes in everything from IDM to breakbeat, techno to ambient and always with a signature sense of adventure and classy sound design. His first outing of 2022 is another accomplished one. Masterfully melodic opener 'Intuniv' pairs curious synth sounds with crunchy percussion and bulky broken beats. It's music to take you into another dimension. 'Aripiprazole' is another hugely original track that goes deep into the cosmos. The drums are catchy broken beats once more, this time with sonorous bell hits ringing out into wide-open spaces. 'Rapid Cycling' remains on a deep space exploration with mysterious leads seducing as you travel on a playful bassline. Spoken-word vocals arrive through the clouds as if half-remembered from a dream and add to the psychedelic quality. Last of all, 'The Black Hole' wants you to move your body on the lithe bass and glowing keys. It's cosmic electronic funk rippled with pensive melodies and is another standout track from Church, this time welcoming back Canadian artist juSt b, with whom he collaborated in 2020, for a dark vocal narrative. Intuniv’ is another fascinating EP from this always adventurous producer.
