Mentors and Mentees in the City of Good Neighbors - Women in Tech Conference Special
This is a very special episode of Powered by Authenticity as we take our listeners inside the Women in Tech of Western New York conference in downtown Buffalo. Throughout the day, we had the opportunity to connect with some of the most inspiring trailblazers, leaders, entrepreneurs, and changemakers helping shape the future of Western New York. From mentorship and leadership to innovation, technology, and authentic connection, the energy throughout the event was incredible. The episode begins with conversations around mentorship and career growth featuring Isabell Trevino, IT Project Manager at AAA Western and Central New York, and Susan Was, Chief People Officer at AAA Western and Central New York. Isabell shares her journey of moving from Texas to Buffalo after graduate school and how mentorship helped shape her path into technology and project management. Susan reflects on the importance of recognizing people for their potential, not simply their resumes, emphasizing that communication, adaptability, organization, and relationship-building are often the true drivers of long-term success. Emily also sits down with Morgan Hardy, CEO of Leadership Buffalo, to discuss leadership development, civic engagement, and how organizations are adapting to support the next generation of leaders in a rapidly evolving workforce. One of the most powerful parts of this episode happens outside the studio walls as Emily heads onto the event floor to speak directly with attendees experiencing Women in Tech WNY in real time. These conversations capture the excitement, encouragement, networking, mentorship, and support happening organically throughout the day. From entrepreneurs and founders to students, nonprofit leaders, and technology professionals, conversations throughout the event centered around innovation, career growth, authentic leadership, and the importance of women supporting one another in technology spaces. Throughout the day, one message remained clear: authentic connection still matters. Thank you to Women in Tech Western New York, TechBuffalo, M&T Bank, Seneca One, and all the guests, attendees, volunteers, and organizers who helped make this incredible day possible. It’s All About the Food - Batavia Restaurant Week with Kaeli Kleinbach LaFrance
In this episode of Powered by Authenticity, I’m joined by Kaeli Kleinbach LaFrance, the driving force behind Batavia’s very first Restaurant Week — happening April 27 through May 2. We sat down to talk about what it really takes to bring something like this to life, from coordinating local restaurants to building excitement across the community. Kaeli shares how this event came together, the incredible lineup of participating restaurants, and what this means not just for the food scene, but for Batavia as a whole. We also get into the bigger picture — the impact Restaurant Week can have on the local economy, how it introduces people to new businesses, and why events like this create lasting momentum well beyond a single week. One of my favorite parts of this conversation was hearing about the collaboration between local restaurant owners. It’s not about competition — it’s about coming together to create something bigger for the community. Here on the podcast, we always say food is a great connector. And with Batavia Restaurant Week, that connection goes even further — bringing people together, supporting local businesses, and creating a shared experience across the community. And if you’re not local to Batavia, this is your reminder to think about what something like this could look like in your own community. The impact is real — and it starts with people willing to bring others to the table. Thank you, Kaeli, for joining us on the podcast and sharing the exciting details of Batavia’s first restaurant week. The Fancy Farm Girl with Sue-Ann Staff at Sue-Ann Staff Estates Winery
In this episode of Powered by Authenticity, we are on location at Sue-Ann Staff Estate Winery, sitting down with Sue-Ann Staff for a conversation that blends entrepreneurship, legacy, and a deep connection to her craft. Sue-Ann is a seventh-generation farmer and fifth-generation grape grower, with her family’s roots on the estate dating back over 200 years. Choosing to build something of her own within that legacy, she carved out her path as a first-generation winemaker. After studying winemaking around the world and spending years developing her craft, she returned home and, at 37, took the leap to start her own winery. What stands out right away is how hands-on her journey has been. Sue-Ann doesn’t just run the business — she’s in it. From the vineyard to the winemaking to the day-to-day decisions, she understands every piece because she’s done every piece. She also shared a perspective that I loved — how her pilot training connects to what she does today. She described winemaking like being an air traffic controller, constantly managing moving parts, making decisions in real time, and balancing both science and instinct. It’s a way of thinking that feels very familiar to anyone building something from the ground up. We also get into the story behind her “Fancy Farm Girl” brand — how a nickname from her earlier years evolved into something that people genuinely connect with today. One of the things that makes Sue-Ann’s winery so special is the experience itself. When you visit, you’re not just tasting wine — you’re stepping into her home. It has that same feeling you get at a great gathering where everyone naturally ends up in the kitchen… comfortable, connected, and part of the experience. That sense of warmth and authenticity carries through everything she’s built. We also talk about the collaborative nature of the wine industry in Niagara — how wineries support one another, share knowledge, and contribute to a region that continues to grow and thrive together. It’s a great reminder that even in entrepreneurship, you don’t have to build alone. And of course, we can’t forget Brix — the happiest Bernese Mountain dog you’ll ever meet — named after the unit used to measure sugar in grapes during the winemaking process. A perfect example of how even the smallest details at the winery have meaning behind them. As one of the only solely female winery owners in her region, Sue-Ann brings a grounded, no-nonsense approach to leadership. She’s built something incredible by staying close to her craft, trusting her instincts, and doing the work every step of the way. This conversation is a real look at entrepreneurship — thoughtful, hands-on, and built over time. Thank you Sue-Ann (and Brix) for such a wonderful conversation. And thank you to the entire team at Sue-Ann Staff Estate Winery for welcoming us on a beautiful Spring day…such a wonderful team!! Sponsor Highlight: Drew Schaub of Brazen Brewing
Powered by Authenticity was thrilled to be hosted by Brazen Brewing in Lancaster, New York for our conversation with Tom Whitmarsh. I had such a great time sitting down with Drew, owner of Brazen Brewing, to learn more about the brewery’s story and their deep roots in the WNY community. Brazen has built more than just a brewery—it’s a space that brings people together. From their commitment to crafting great beer to their continued support of local organizations, including hosting the Summit Center fundraiser in partnership with the WNY Beer Trail, they are a true example of what community looks like in action. We absolutely love our location sponsors and were so grateful for the opportunity to partner with a business that embodies what Powered by Authenticity is all about: community, connection, and creating meaningful experiences. Brewing Ideas, Supporting the Community - Tom Whitmarsh, WNY Trails
In this episode of Powered by Authenticity, I sit down with Tom Whitmarsh, founder of the WNY Beer Trail, for a conversation that is equal parts community and inspiration. Tom shares his journey from large corporate retail into building something of his own—right here in Western New York. What started as an idea turned into a business that now supports local breweries and brings people together across our region. And that’s what I love about this conversation… It’s a reminder that when you find something you’re passionate about, something that connects people, something that feels meaningful, you can build something real from it. You don’t have to have it all figured out on day one. You just have to start. And along the way, you figure out how to grow it, how to sustain it, and yes—how to monetize it. But Tom didn’t stop there. Giving back has always been part of the vision. We talked about his upcoming fundraiser on April 11 in support of the Summit Center, leading into their Autism Walk on May 2, as well as the continued support for the Autism Nature Trail at Letchworth State Park—creating inclusive, thoughtful spaces for families across WNY. We recorded this episode at Brazen Brewing, who will also be hosting the fundraiser and has created a Kölsch-style beer (which is so good!!) in support of the Summit Center. It’s such a great example of what happens when community and purpose come together. Thank you to Brazen Brewing for hosting us and being part of this story. If you’ve ever had an idea in the back of your mind… this one is for you. Thank you, Tom, for such a wonderful conversation rooted in inspiration, heart and the power of community. Climbing for Air with Mary Russo & the American Lung Association
In this episode of Powered by Authenticity, I’m joined by Mary Russo from the American Lung Association in Buffalo for a conversation rooted in community, impact, and action. One thing that really matters—when you support the American Lung Association here in Western New York, those dollars stay right here. They go directly toward lung cancer education, research, and patient support for individuals and families in our own community. Mary shares how their team is actively out across WNY, connecting with people, raising awareness, and making sure no one navigating lung disease feels like they’re doing it alone. We also talk about the Fight for Air Climb—an event held in cities across the country, all working toward the same mission. What makes it even more meaningful is that while it’s part of a national movement, the funds raised at each climb support that local community. Here in Buffalo, that means real impact for the people right here at home. This is about more than awareness—it’s about showing up for your community in a way that truly makes a difference. We are also honored to be joined by two of the top climber’s as they share their ‘why they climb’ stories …through loss, they’ve found a way to honor their loved ones and climb each year in their memory. It’s a beautiful story of trying to find purpose from loss. Producer Ken and I will be there climbing on May 9, 2026 – my why? My dad. Although we lost him to lung cancer on April 26, 2009, we continue to honor him each year by raising funds that will help drive awareness and, in time, find a cure to a disease so many suffer from. Thank you, Mary, for being such a wonderful guest on the show! To all of my fellow climbers, I look forward to seeing you climb and share memories of your loved ones on May 9, 2026 at Sahlen’s Field in Buffalo, NY. The Entrepreneur Frame of Mind with Drew Cerza (The Wing King!)
When you hear Buffalo, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Wings. We think so too. But we also think about the person who helped put them on the map in a whole new way… the Wing King himself, Drew Cerza. And, this was a conversation the Powered by Authenticity team couldn’t wait to have. Getting to spend time with Drew was something we truly appreciated. What he has built in Buffalo, and the way he has brought attention to our community, is something we are proud of. To quote Drew, “It’s been about giving back since day one.” And as the festival has grown, so has the impact he’s been able to make. Drew shares the growth of the National Buffalo Wing Festival, now celebrating its 25th anniversary and recognized as one of the top specialty food festivals. What stands out most is how that growth has created a platform to give back and support the community in meaningful ways. We also talk about how he became the “Wing King,” including his win on Throwdown with Bobby Flay, and how that moment helped elevate both his platform and the festival. This conversation also dives into Drew’s entrepreneurial spirit and the mindset that has shaped his journey. From identifying a niche and going for it, to staying focused and continuing to evolve, Drew shares what it takes to build something that lasts. There is a clear passion for entrepreneurship throughout this conversation, and a respect for those willing to take an idea and turn it into something real. He also shares his commitment to mentorship, including his work with local colleges and reinforces what makes Buffalo so special… people showing up for people. At its core, this episode is about building something meaningful, supporting your community, and creating impact along the way. Be sure to join us in Buffalo on August 29 & 30, 2026 for the National Buffalo Wing Festival. You'll find Drew, Producer Ken and I there taking in all of the wings and community engagement. Loss to Purpose: Peggy Pollizi and Palmesano Strong
ALS is a disease that many people have heard about — often through moments like the Ice Bucket Challenge, the legacy of Lou Gehrig, or more recently through public figures sharing their diagnoses. Yet for many, the reality of what ALS is and how it impacts families remains largely unknown until it touches their lives directly. On this episode of Powered by Authenticity, I’m joined by Peggy Pollizi, co-founder of Palmesano Strong, a foundation dedicated to supporting individuals and families impacted by ALS. Peggy shares the deeply personal story of her brother, Mick, and the journey their family experienced after his diagnosis. From the moment they learned he had ALS to walking beside him through the progression of the disease, Peggy reflects on the love, strength, and resilience that carried their family through an incredibly difficult chapter. Out of that love came purpose. Through Palmesano Strong, Peggy and her community are working to ensure that families facing ALS are not alone. The foundation raises funds and provides meaningful, practical support for patients — in many ways you may not realize they need – like, building accessibility ramps in homes to providing specialized utensils and equipment that help individuals maintain independence as the disease progresses. Peggy’s story is a powerful reminder of how love for family can turn into action that lifts an entire community. If this conversation moves you, I encourage you to learn more about Palmesano Strong, support their mission, and consider getting involved. One way to do that is by signing up for their upcoming golf tournament, which helps fund the resources and support they provide to families facing ALS. Food for You & (A)I with Tanya Maximova
In this episode of Powered by Authenticity, Emilysits down with Tanya Maximova, founder of IngrediLens, to talk about how personal challenges, resilience, and emerging technology can come together to solve real-world problems. IngrediLens is an AI-powered app designed to help peoplebetter understand what’s in their food by analyzing ingredient labels through image recognition and intelligent data processing. Fueled by Authenticity with James Oliver
This conversation is a great reminder that the best ideasoften come from trying to solve your own problem. That’s exactly how Atlas Bars — and this journey with James Oliver — began. James joins me for a thoughtful, easy conversation aboutfood, endurance training, and what it really looks like to build something from the ground up. What started as a personal need — wanting better, cleaner fuel for his body — turned into making bars in his kitchen with his mom, andeventually into a brand that now reaches millions of people. We talk about how his curiosity about nutrition started at ayoung age, how training and studying abroad in China helped shape the idea, and why he’s always believed that taste, ingredients, and how you feel after eating something all matter. We also get into: Why so many “protein bars” are really just sugar bars in disguise What it takes to grow a product without losing what made it good in the first place Why focusing on building something truly useful beats chasing hype or trends And, of course, a little food talk, wings, and some friendly Patriots vs. Bills banter This is a grounded, honest conversation about curiosity, consistency, and building something you’re genuinely proud to stand behind. Thank you, James, for such an engaging conversation. Weloved hearing about your journey and your product!! If you’re from Buffalo, you already know - we don’t justshow up together. And if you’re not from here, you’re about to see exactly what makes this community so special. That spirit is exactly what this episode with Buddy in da Basement (a/k/a Chris Panepinto) is all about. In this high-energy, fun, and genuinely insightful conversation, I sit down with one of Buffalo’s favorite content creators totalk about what it really takes to turn creativity, consistency, and a whole lot of Bills Mafia energy into a thriving community. In just two years and nearly 700 pieces of content,Buddy in da Basement has built something special — not just a following, but a place where food, tailgates, crazy cocktails, costumes, and pure Buffalo energy collide in the best possible way. We talk about: How Buddy became a character and why Buffalo embraces creativity The real work behind showing up consistently Finding your niche without losing your personality Why community will always beat algorithms The creator grind behind the scenes And of course… tailgates, traditions, and unapologetic Buffalo Bills love This episode is a reminder that Buffalo doesn’t just createfans — we create families. And the best content doesn’t come from chasing trends… it comes from showing up as yourself and inviting people along for the ride. And yes — we confirm: It is Buffalo Bills weather The Bills are winning the Super Bowl And you absolutely should be following Buddy in da Basement. If you love Buffalo, love creators who keep it real, or justwant a genuinely fun listen — this one’s for you! Thank you, Buddy in da Basement, for such an engaging, fun episode. Links to Buddy: Buddy in da Basement Facebook - Buddyin da Basement About Buddy: Buddy in da Basement started just about two years ago as asimple idea — bring joy, laughter, and Buffalo Bills hype to the internet. Buddy celebrates three things: Eat. Drink. Be a Bills Fan! Self-proclaimed unofficial bar master of Buffalo - mixes up a different chaotic cocktail every week; talks proud about Buffalo food spot - mostly pizza but has dabbled into other foods. Finally, Buddy tries to create some ridiculous antic that is relatable to Bills fans bringing our community together. Buddy is a character I created — upbeat, passionate, ridiculous in all the right ways and always aiming to spread positivity. He’s never trying to offend, argue, or be controversial. Letting the Scars Show with Erin Bailey
“I show my scars so that others know they can heal.” In this episode I am joined by Erin Bailey-Boyes. Erin is afitness and mindset coach from Muskoka, Ontario, but her story is about so much more than training plans or physical transformation. In this deeply honest and courageous episode, Erin opens up about her journey through grief, anxiety, addiction, and recovery — and what it really looks like to choose yourself, even when it feels impossibly hard. We talk about her early life, how she found her way into fitness and coaching, and the pressure so many of us feel to appear “strong” and “put together” while quietly struggling behind the scenes. Erin shares her battle with alcoholism, the devastating loss of her partner in the line of duty, andthe long, brave road toward learning healthier ways to cope with pain, stress, and fear. What makes this conversation so powerful is Erin’s willingness to be fully seen. She doesn’t share from a place of perfection — she shares from a place of truth. From the moments she used alcohol to numb the pain, to the moment she realized she deserved more from her life, Erin’s story is a reminderthat healing is not linear, but it is always possible. A Not So Silent Night with Nick Revelas of the Revelas Family Foundation
In this episode of Powered by Authenticity, Emily is joined by Nick Revelas, President of the Revelas Family Foundation, to share the story behind the foundation, its mission, and the community-driven work focused on supporting teen mental health across Western New York. Nick reflects on the personal loss that led to the creation of the Revelas Family Foundation and how that experience shaped its purpose: to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and increase access to mental health resources for young people. The foundation’s work is rooted in the belief that open conversation and community connection can save lives. The conversation highlights the upcoming Not So Silent Night event — a signature fundraiser that brings the community together in a meaningful and uniquely Buffalo way. This year’s event includes an ambitious and fun attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest chicken wing eating contest, using food and connection as a way to draw people into an important conversation around mental health. Emily and Nick also discuss the impact of Horizon's Teen Mental Health Program, a critical mental health resource supported by the foundation. Horizons has already helped over 40,000 students across 40 school systems, yet the demand continues to grow, with a waiting list that underscores just how urgent the need for support remains. Every contribution helps expand access to care, fund vital programming, and continue breaking the stigma surrounding mental health issues — one conversation, one student, and one community at a time. This episode is a powerful reminder that when communities come together with purpose, compassion, and authenticity, meaningful change is possible. Thank you, Nick, for a wonderful conversation. We can't wait to see the incredible event this Saturday, December 20th, and the incredible impact the funds raised will make to our community. The Balance of Confidence with Dr. Vicki Johnson
This week, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Dr.Vicki Johnson, the founder of ProFellow — a platform she builtbecause she knew firsthand how life-changing fellowships, fully funded graduate programs, and competitive awards can be… and how hidden they often are. What started as a small resource she and her husband created while she was a Ph.D.student has now grown into a global hub that hundreds of thousands of people rely on. Vicki’s story is one of curiosity, courage, and a whole lotof heart. She talks about the moment she realized that opportunities like her Fulbright Fellowship and fully funded Ph.D. program shouldn’t be secrets—you shouldn’t need to “know someone” or stumble on a professor’s offhand comment to change your life. So she built the tool she wished she had. One of my favorite parts of our conversation is when Vickibreaks down her MATCH ME formula — a seven-step framework she developed to help people tell their story clearly and confidently, whether they’re applying for a fellowship, putting together a pitch, or stepping into theirnext big chapter. It’s simple, smart, and highly actionable, and you’ll hear her share how it has helped countless people transform the way they talk about themselves and their work. We also go deep on the realities of entrepreneurship — thelong seasons, the learning curves, and the quiet moments when passion has to carry you through uncertainty. It’s honest, human, and full of wisdom for anyone building something that matters. If you’ve ever wondered how to stand out, how to tell yourstory in a way that lands, or how to take your next step with a little more confidence, this conversation will meet you right where you are. NO KID SLEEPS ON THE FLOOR IN OUR TOWN!
There are moments on this podcast when the conversationshifts from storytelling to something deeper — something tender, urgent, and universally human. This episode is one of those moments. In this episode, Donna Ritchie and Jerry Sheldon, leaderswith Sleep in Heavenly Peace, share how a bed becomes much more than furniture. It becomes warmth. Stability. Safety. A sense of belonging. A soft place for a child to land after days that are sometimes heavier than any childshould carry. Across the United States, more than 150,000 childrenhave no bed of their own — a number that feels impossible until you hear Donna and Jerry speak about what they see every week here in Western New York. In our own backyard, hundreds of children lay their heads down on floors, couches, or borrowed spaces night after night. Rochester’s waitlist is around 300 kids. Buffalo’s approaches 700. This is not a far-away issue. It’s happening in our neighborhoods, our schools, our communities. And yet — the heart of this episode is not about what’smissing. It’s about the love that shows up to fill the gap. Donna and Jerry talk about the small details — the handmadeframes, the safe stain used to protect the wood, the bedding volunteers lovingly choose — because when you’re giving a child a bed, everything matters. They share moments from delivery days that stay with them: the look on a child’s face when they see their new bed, the way a parent’s shouldersfinally drop in relief, the joy of matching a little girl’s wish for unicorn bedding. And woven through every story is the same message: Love is the driving force behind this work. Love for children who deserve rest. Love for families who need support. Love for a community that rallies when the need is great. This episode is a reminder that sometimes the mostmeaningful change comes from the most basic human needs — a safe place to sleep, and people who care enough to make sure every child has it. Thank you Jerry and Donna for sharing the story of Sleep inHeavenly Peace’s mission across the US, and those incredible needs here in WNY. We were talking about kids in need, and she said she had friends in Michigan who build beds for kids. After looking into it, we were both intrigued. We were newlyempty nesters, so we thought we had some extra time on our hands. The next thing we knew, we were on our way to chapter president training. Our first delivery was Christmas Eve 2019. We delivered 2beds to twin 6-year-olds. Since then, we’ve had a nice family tradition of delivering beds with our 2 daughters every Christmas Eve. In total, our chapter has delivered over 1300 beds to local kids. Our chapter delivers approximately 300 beds per year. Both my husband and I (and many of our volunteers) work fulltime jobs. My husband is an engineer and I’m an event planner. I’d like people to know that anyone can help by eitherparticipating in a build or donating. Jerry Sheldon Bio: Jerry and Mary Jo Sheldon, along with Rick and Betsy DiVitaformed the Buffalo chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace in 2019. It was August of 2020 that SHP Buffalo delivered its first bed to a child in Buffalo. Currently SHP Buffalo has delivered over 5100 beds. Giving Veterans a Voice with Cole Johnson of WNYHeroes
In this episode of Powered by Authenticity, I amjoined by Cole Johnson — Lead Caseworker for WNYHeroes, U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, and Afghanistan War Veteran. We begin by honoring Cole for his service, but what becomes clear throughout our conversation is that his servicenever stopped. It simply shifted home to Western New York. Cole walks us through the extraordinary work WNYHeroes isdoing every single day for veterans, service members, and their families right here in our community. Beyond being a trusted ear and a steady shoulder, WNYHeroes provides both financial support and people-centered services that fill critical gaps for those who have sacrificed so much. We explore programs like: The Little Heroes Fund, which helps cover the costs of enrichment activities for the children of veterans and active-duty military — from sports and camps to music, arts, and after-school programs. These opportunities ensure every child has the chance to grow, learn, and belong. The Heroes’ Bridge Program, offering vital financial support in moments of crisis. Whether it’s rent, mortgage payments, utilities, or emergency needs, this grant gives veterans the stability they deserve when times get tough. And with the holiday season approaching, WNYHeroes ishard at work on their impactful Adopt-a-Hero Family program — ensuring veterans, service members, and their families experience a Christmas filled with warmth, and support when times are tough. While donations are always meaningful, volunteers are theheartbeat of this organization. Whether it’s lending Cole a hand in the office, assisting at community events, or offering support out in the field, every bit of time and effort truly matters. WNYHeroes welcomes anyone who is ready to step in, ready to help, and ready to support the veterans and families who have long supported us. I walked away from this conversation both humbled andinspired. I had no idea the depth and breadth of services WNYHeroes provides, nor how many lives they quietly transform across Western New York. I hope you’ll join me in supporting this extraordinary nonprofit that continuesto uplift those who have carried the weight of service on our behalf. Kaely’s Kindness Foundation - Kaely Kwitek
On this episode of Powered by Authenticity I am joined by Kaely Kwitek, Co-Founder of Kaely's Kindness Foundation. At just 16 years old, Kaely Kwitek was diagnosed with Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (ALCL)—a rare and aggressive form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. During her treatment, Kaely realized there wasn’t a support group designed specifically for teen girls facing cancer. So, she decided to change that. While receiving inpatient care, Kaely and her go-to person, Emily, noticed another patient sitting alone in her hospital room. They ordered a pizza and shared a moment of connection that changed everything. That small act of kindness inspired Kaely’s mom to write a grant request to Pizza Hut—and Kaely’s Kindness Foundation was born. Today, Kaely’s Kindness is a beacon of hope for girls ages 11–21 navigating a cancer diagnosis and treatment. It’s more than a support group—it’s a sisterhood built on understanding, compassion, and shared experience. From back-to-school shopping and spa days to retreats and Friendsgiving celebrations, the foundation creates moments of joy and belonging for young women who need it most. Above that, the Kaely's Kindness Foundation gives back to families in ways they need to feel a sense of relief to some of the everyday burdens they still face -- such as rent, utilities, and daily expenses. This allows them to be able to fully focus on care and healing. I’ve had the privilege of getting to know Kaely, and the impact she’s making for teens across Western New York is truly remarkable. One of my favorite takeaways from this conversation? If you want it—get creative and find it. That tenacious spirit has helped Kaely’s Kindness grow to support over 116 teenage girls battling this unforgiving disease. Thank you, Kaely, for joining the show and for turning your own journey into a message of hope, connection, and community for others. Are you a member of your local Chamber of Commerce? If not — listen in. If you are — drop your ideas below. In this week’s episode of Powered by Authenticity, I sit down with Brian Cousins, President of the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce (NY), to explore what a Chamber really does behind the scenes — the wins, the challenges, and why every local business should care. His approach centers on three powerful pillars — promote, support, and connect — helping members strengthen their reach and build meaningful relationships across the region. Even the GOAT Has a Coach
In this episode, I’m joined by Scott Lewis, Owner and Chairman of the CEO Roundtable, for a powerful conversation about the role of peer groups, emotion in leadership, and why human connection remains essential for leaders today. We dig into a key question: When you’re the CEO — the one making the final calls — where do you go for support? As Scott shares, being “at the top” can often feel isolating. That’s where peer groups come in: a trusted space to close the door, brainstorm options, and gain perspective from others who have faced — or are currently facing — the same challenges. These groups not only provide fresh insight but also serve as a vital reminder that you’re not alone and that your leadership matters. Our conversation also explores the growing importance of human connection in an era of AI and automation. Connection provides perspective, resilience, and meaning. It reminds us that strength lies in weaving together diverse voices and experiences, and that even leaders need a community to lean on. Scott illustrates this beautifully with the story of Susan — a stay-at-home mom returning to work who joined a workshop group activity. During a group project, Susan shared a perspective that was ultimately overlooked. In hindsight, it was the exact insight the team needed for a better outcome. The lesson? Always seek out and listen to the “Susan” in the room. That different perspective may be the key to moving forward. Thank you, Scott, for such a thoughtful conversation. From peer groups to one-on-one coaching, this episode is a timely reminder that leadership — at its best — is built on connection. WNY Changemakers - Del Reid
In this episode of Powered by Authenticity, I’m joined by Del Reid, Founder of 26 Shirts in Buffalo, New York. Del shares his insights on leadership, networking, and the power of a giving mindset. I’ve long admired the work of 26 Shirts, and our conversation only deepened that respect. As Del explains, “26 Shirts exists to make an impact on families who are going through the worst situations of their lives.” What began with a single tweet has grown into an organization making a profound difference across Western New York. That tweet, of course, was the now-famous #BillsMafia tag — and it was such fun to hear the story behind its creation. We talked about what it means to lead with generosity, and how a giving mindset can spark ripples of good throughout the community. A theme that stood out to me was “team” — from the support of his family and wife, to the broader community that stands behind his mission. Del also shared how being rooted in faith has shaped his journey and leadership — something that resonated deeply with me. Del, thank you for joining me on Powered by Authenticity. In episode two of our WNY Changemakers series, I amhonored to be joined by Dr. Meghan Underhill, Assistant Professor at the University of Rochester School of Nursing, a member of Cancer Control and Prevention at the Wilmot Cancer Institute, and a Nurse Practitioner at the Wilmot Cancer Institute. Rochester proudly hosts an NCI-designated cancer center—a distinction held by less than 4% of cancer facilities nationwide. Within, Meghan shares the real impact this bringsto our region—from expanding opportunities for groundbreaking research, to making treatment more accessible throughout the community. She also highlights the importance of this designation in helping to recruit and train care providers. In addition to her research, Meghan provides direct patientcare. She discusses the importance of treating patients holistically, including recognizing the essential role caregivers play throughout the cancer journey. Her commitment to ensuring the patient’s perspective is at the forefront of care is both powerful and inspiring. Meghan explains that the best research starts with identifying real-world clinical problems: “The most important thing that drives the next researchproject is finding a problem in the clinical setting. Destined to Lead
In this episode, I'm joined by Lisa Thomas, Founder of Epigenetics for Global Impact™ — and what a conversation it was. We dive into the powerful idea that inherited emotional DNA can quietly place limitations on our success, often without us even realizing it. Have you ever wondered if inherited beliefs or patterns might be holding you back — in your career, your relationships, or even your personal growth? One of my favorite insights from Lisa during our conversation: "The fear of the unknown often keeps us trapped in the unhealthy of some area of our life." It made me pause and reflect: How often do we let fear of the unknown stop us from chasing something greater? And what would happen if we chose joy instead? In this episode, we explore: How inherited limitations can impact your success Practical ways to break through those barriers Why finding a moment of joy each day is critical to your growth How to start recognizing opportunities that are already around you This conversation will energize you, challenge you, and hopefully inspire you to move past fear and into greater possibilities.
