Life Stages and Sleep Challenges- an Interview with Dr. Nick Nissen
Have you ever wondered how your sleep changes over age? Why did you use to sleep deeply, but can't seem to find the same kind of rest anymore? This episode of Powered by Sleep features Dr. Paul Muchowski, Ph.D., in conversation with Dr. Nick Nissen to discuss how your sleep cycles grow and change over age. Dr. Nissen is a board-certified psychiatrist and entrepreneur. He earned his undergraduate degree from Notre Dame, then went to medical school at Brown University. He completed a residency in adult psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and has also trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I). He is a co-founder of InsideTheBoards, the world’s largest medical education podcast platform, as well as running his own podcast called “Brain Health with Dr. Nissen.” We would like to acknowledge that Dr. Nissen is on the medical advisory board of Defined Research. Coping with Daylight Savings Time Change
In this episode, Paul Muchowski, PhD, is joined by Dr. Thuan Dang. Dr. Dang is a pediatric neurologist who specializes in sleep medicine at the Shriners’ Children’s Hospital in Chicago. She is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) and Sleep Medicine. Most coverage of DST focuses on the obvious: you lose an hour of sleep, you're dragging on Monday, but you eventually adjust. That framing dramatically undersells what's happening. Dr. Dang and Dr. Muchowski speak about how much Daylight Savings actually does to your mind and body, disrupting your sleep cycles and circadian rhythms. But luckily, Dr. Dang reminds us that there are actions you can take to help your body adjust to the change.
