We start the new year going deep into the necessity to Know Thyself as a basis for revolutionary action. This week we take you on a ride making three stops to hear the voices of the press conference spotlighting the civil suit brought by New Afrikan Artivist Minister King against CDCr and the state of California for violating his First Amendment rights and he’s challenging the merits of Penal Code 4571; next we’ll hear an excerpt of a conversation between New Afrikan Political Prisoner Brotha LP and Educator Activist Ida McCray revealing a “master class” in the development of a traitor by Brotha LP; and lastly we’ll hear an excerpt of a conversation with Queen Makini Iyapo on her journey to healing from the loss of her husband Yafeu Iyapo who died in an outside prison hospital after 50 years of captivity. We continue to hear the voices of local Oaklanders benefitting from the weekly food giveaway organized by a powerful collaboration of local, Black-lead organizations, including Formerly Incarcerated Giving Back founded By Richard “Razor” Johnson, who spent 26 years in captivity and subjected to years of solitary confinement meant to break his revolutionary spirit because of his political activities. We pay special tribute to Kevin Bonewell who recently joined the ancestors, by Brotha Balagoon who reminds us of the significance and foundation set by this New Afrikan freedom fighter. We also take note of multiple, ongoing news and resources regarding New Afrikan/Black folk here and throughout the diaspora to support, utilize and/or take action on. We continue to acknowledge and highlight the powerful work our New Afrikan brothas are doing to love up on the people with the voices of the People. New Afrikan History is Black History, but most people have no idea who or what a New Afrikan is nor the very important history of the New Afrikan Nation and Independence Movement. We continue our conversation on what it means to be a New Afrikan with Brotha Gha’is Muntaqim, home after 40+ years, although after all is said and done he’s survived the ravages of genocidal captivity in CDCr for 60 years, and comes home with 4-stage cancer among other ailments, and Kan’t stop, Won’t stop, Will not be stopped fortitude! We will be focusing on this historical and political issue of medical abuse, neglect and genocide plaguing our people behind razor wire, and why We should understand its implications and what We can do to support our People coming home.

First week of “Black” History Month. We’ll be commemorating through the lens and narrative of New Afrikan History 365, talking about Carter G. Woodson, father of Black History Week and the importance, and intention, of his seminal book, “The Mis-education of the Negro.” We will also hear from Prime Minister Balagoon, speaking on the Honorable Marcus Garvey, Pan African, considered the Father of the New African Nation, Founder of the UNIA (Universal Negro Improvement Association), and creator of the Pan-African RBG flag (Red- for the blood spilled, Black- for the People, Green- for the land)…

This week we preempt the roundtable and hear an essay on Prop 36 and its implications by Brotha Balagoon Kambon Muhammad, 40 years enslaved, 16 spent in solitary confinement and who is waiting to get his medical release date; and we hear an excerpt of a conversation in October of 2024 with Brotha Zah, serving LWOP, life without parole, still enslaved after 40 years, and surviving 28 years in solitary confinement in both Pelican Bay and Corcoran state prisons, speaking on the ramped up white supremicist action of putting Black people back in their place, and what’s going on in the background regarding Prop 36 that we should be aware of (should it pass). We do ourselves a disservice when we don’t engage with our community members experiencing penal slavery. That is why Prison Focus Radio centers the voices, stories and commentary of our People in California experiencing penal slavery, a crime against humanity. We intentionally and purposefully highlight New Afrikan California former and current Political Prisoners who organized the Historic California Hunger Strikes, authored the Agreement to End Hostilities, developed Black August Memorial/Black August Resistance and survived decades of torture in solitary confinement in Pelican Bay and Corcoran state prisons euphemistically called “security housing units” (SHUs), meant to break the revolutionary mind.
