Punch Drunk Critics Live!

Uhhh...I didn't think that The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly had been used enough for shows like this so BOOM, there's your title! Yes folks...it's that time of year again! We, the critics of Punch Drunk, will be joined by our very good friend Nell Minow, the Movie Mom and we are very excited to announce that also joining us tonight is 'The Cinema Siren' Ms. Leslie Combemale! Other than being in awe that we were able to convince to lovely ladies to talk with us for an hour we'll be bringing you our Top 3 films of the Year! Three you ask? Why that's an odd number....well, yeah, it would be if we weren't being extra awesome and bringing our thoughts for worst and most dissapointing movie as well! But wait there's more! We're going out with a bang by brining telling you which actors/actreesses we think were the true breakout stars of the year. Join US! What, did you think that we were going to slow down just because the weekly installments of PDC Live!! are coming to an end? Not. A. Chance. We have not one but FOUR huge movies this week to talk about. Quinton Tarantino's new epic Django Unchained, then we'll talk about Oscar darling Les Miserables. Usually that would be more than enough to fill a few hours but we're also going to somehow manage to fit in Judd Apatow's latest This is 40 and the Billy Crystal/Bette Midler vehicle Parental Guidance. Join us for our last regular episode before we change over to our specials only format!

Well, we've finally come to the weekend movie geeks across the globe have awaited for close to a decade. The continuation, or rather begining, of the Lord of the Rings franchise as 'The Hobbit' charges into theaters across the country. Does it live up? Should they have just let it be? Travis and I will explore everything Baggins as the fate of pop culture hangs in the balance. We'll also be talking to Roger Michell, the director of this week's other big release 'Hyde Park on Hudson' a film that gives us Bill Murray dressed as FDR playing it serious!

It's a HUGE week around the PDC as we are getting ready to vote on the annual Washington Area Film Critics Association (can you see why we use WAFCA?) awards. The awards are decided by the best and brightest film critics from the nation's capital and if history teaches us anything it will be a good preview of the Oscar's! Travis and John will break down all of the nominees and what we think will be taking home the night's honors. As if that weren't enough we'll also be delivering reviews of this week's major releases, Deadfall, a heist gone wrong movie with Olivia Wilde and Playing for Keeps starring Gerard Butler.

All kinds of killing going on this week on PDC Live as we take a look at a movie that had me at hello with it's first set picture, Brad Pitt's Killing Them Softly. Next it's on to Jigsaw's possibly more insane movie cousin in The Collection, the sequel to the awesome indie horror hit The Collector. It's trap filled houses without the moral overtones!

A Hollywood legend, an 80's action staple remade, and a movie many claim to be the next Avatar, that's this week in a nutshell (thanks Austin Powers for not letting me use that phrase without quoting you). We take a look at the Anthony Hopkin's starring biopic Hitchcock then we join a pack of Wolverines in Red Dawn and last but certainly not least, we find out if Life of Pi is a new classic or just a treat for the eyes.

We wrap up the epic Twilight saga with our reviews of Breaking Dawn Pt. 2 then it's on to the ridiculously good looking with Silver Lining's Playbook starring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence and lastly Keira Knightley breaks type with a the period peace Anna Kareninia.

Critics, Punch Drunk Critics. Bond is back! We'll be talking about the ins and outs of Skyfall and wether the claims of it being the best Bond ever are legit. We'll also be talking about one of this nation's most beloved presidents as we tackle Steven Speilberg's Lincoln. Saving the best for last we'll be hearing from the beautiful Imogen Poots as she joins the PDC to talk about this weeks A Late Quartet.

To say this has been a landmark few weeks for Star Wars fans would be putting it lightely. With news that Disney had bought Lucasfilm and is moving forward with Episode VII fans went nuts, both for and against. With more questions than answers we at the PDC want to sort through the rubble and see what will become. We are extremely happy to welcome special guest Nick Maley, one of the geniuses behind the creation of Yoda, and who worked on A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back to talk all things Star Wars, plus take a look back at his storied career that includes Superman and Krull! It will be a day long remembered!!

The driving force behind one of the groups that defined 90's hip hop, Rza of the WuTang Clan took time out to talk to the Punch Drunk Critics about his new film The Man with the Iron Fists, a Kung Fu extravaganza with heavy roots in old school martial arts cinema. John and Travis will bring you up to speed on the movie and Rza's journey to get to this point. As well as bring you the man himself to talk about this dream project of his.

On this week's episode of PDC Live we'll be joined by Silent Hill: Revelation director Michael J. Bassett to talk about the long-awaited horror sequel. Plus we'll have reviews of The Wachowskis' and Tom Tykwer's ambitious new sci-fi film, Cloud Atlas; and The Sessions, which is already gaining a lot of Oscar attention for stars John Hawkes and Helen Hunt.

Wow, it seems like it's been a long time since our good buddy Tim Gordon joined us on the airwaves. Tim will be sitting in for John this week as he and Travis run down this week's releases Alex Cross and Paranormal Activity 4. We'll also be running down what's in store for the Black Reel Awards this year! Make sure to tune in and check it out!

Nope, they're not skills and achievements from Dick Cheney's resume (jeez, how could you go there? Don't we have enough politi-talk right now without dated Dick Cheney jokes?). They are the plots of this week's new releases, Argo, Seven Psychopaths, and Sinister! I haven't been so eager to talk about all of the weeks releases in longer than I can remember. It's sure to be a cavalcade of awesome things so make sure to tune in!

Bryan Mills is back, kickin' butt and takin' names as the father of one of his old victims comes looking for revenge. Does Neeson power the sequel to the same adrenaline-fueled heights as before? Or has age finally caught up?  Plus, we'll take a look at Tim Burton's stop-motion animated horror/comedy, 'Frankenweenie'!

On this week's show we sit down with Stephen Chbosky, author of 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' and the writer/director of the new film starring Emma Watson. We'll also review Rian Johnson's 'Looper', and the musical comedy 'Pitch Perfect' with Anna Kendrick!

On this episode of PDC LIVE!! we are feeling vastly unaccomplished as we welcome 19 year old director Emily Hagins to talk about her new movie My Sucky Teen Romance. Sure 19 doesn't seem TOO young for a first time director that's why Emily decided to direct her first feature at 12!! After realizing how unambitious OUR teen years were we go to the source of that lack of ambition, VIDEO GAMES!! Or, more specifically video game movies. With the release of Resident Evil: Retribution Travis and I take a look into the future of video game movies....will they continue to be bashed or will they take the place of comic book adapatations?

This week on PDC Live!! we're joined by director Jamie Bradshaw to talk about his new movie Branded. Another celeb studded week on PDC Live as we welcome the beautiful Ari Graynor of the new movie For a Good Time Call... Oh, you thought that was all we had? We'll also be talking about the new Tom Hardy prohibition era bootlegging flick Lawless and what will hopefully be a positive entry in the demon genre with Jeffery Dean Morgan's new film The Possesion.

I sit down for a pointed conversation with Craig Zobel, director of the controversial new film, 'Compliance'.

Iconic filmmaker Spike Lee will be joining us this week on PDC Live!! to discuss his latest film Red Hook Summer, a venture back to the universe he created originally in Do The Right Thing. Afterwards we'll be talking about what we thought of Lee's latest effort as well as a look at rising star Joseph Gordon-Levitt's new movie Premium Rush. This week on PDC Live!! we are joined by the directors of what is being called "The Best Stop-Motion Film in 20 Years" Paranorman. In what is sure to be a jam packed week we will also be reviewing Paranorman and don't forget The Expendables 2...I'm rarely THIS excited to see both movies coming out in a single week but Paranorman looks amazing and Expendables 2 features my childhood hero, Jean Claude Vann-Damme!!!
