His father, Sadhu Singh Ramgarhia, was well versed in Arabic, Persian, Sanskrit, and Punjabi. The family migrated to Fatehpur Majra village, Patiala district, Punjab, India after the partition of India. He worked as a carpenter and a mason as a youngster. He started his writing career by contributing to Punjabi magazine Nagmani. In 1972, he published his first book Kala Ilm. Dr. Gurbaksh Singh Bhandal, born on 2 April 1953 to father Channan Singh and mother Pritam Kaur in village Bhandal Bet in Kapurthala district of Punjab. He has done MSc in Physics and PhD in Nuclear Science. He has taught Physics in colleges for 33 years. Dr. Bhandal has contributed 22 books to Punjabi Literature. Her writings include Khasmakhanian, Bullah, Teesri Dastak, Border-Border, Dukh Darya, Jodiyaan Jagg Thodiyaan, and Shahid Nadeem de Natak. She has also produced works of literary criticism in drama. She has been honoured with the ‘Kalaa Ratan Purskaar 2013’ and the ‘Gurdial Singh Phull Yaadgari Sabha’ and ‘Principal Sujan Singh Yadgari Utshahvardhak Sanman 2020’. In 2021 the Jhanjaran Wale Paer short story collection was conferred the Dalbir Chetan Yadgari Purskar Award. 'Jhanjaran Wale Paer ' also won 'The Dhahan Prize' 2022.
