Regular Joes Podcast

Dave Pisani, Barry Kay and Tod Pleasant have teamed up to create the Regular Joes Podcast, a show that will focus on various aspects of the things they love most, movies, toys, sci-fi, tv shows, comics, collecting, and much more. Each episode will feature subjects such as the cool vehicles and props from classic movies and tv show, the movie you would want to have with you if you were stranded on a desert island as well as new or notable items the guys have added to their varied collections. Special celebrity guests will stop by from time-to-time to provide their input as well. There's no end to the useless stuff they know, but don't call them Geeks, they're just Regular Joes!

618: Men in Red and Black

This week, the Regular Joe's take a look at two Disney+ series about men in red and black. Or one guy who wears red and black, and another who is red and black. Maul Shadow Lord, we're not supposed to call him Darth Maul anymore, gives further dimension to a Star Wars character most thought was out of the picture 27 years ago. Who knew getting bisected isn't necessarily fatal. Shadow Lord is an animated series that is clearly not for kids, but it's also clearly awesome. Daredevil Born Again's sophomore season more than corrected the numerous shortcomings of the first. It's been extremely well received by critics and fans alike, giving viewers a whole lot more of what they were looking for - unless like Barry and Dave you're looking for something a little different. There's also a rare What's on my Workbench update, and the usual random topics. Thanks for watching, and listening! 618: What is the Future of Star Trek?

In its 60th year the future of Star Trek is very much uncertain. What is known is that, on July 23rd a new season of Strange New Worlds will launch. The Regular Joes breakdown the just released trailer, and share their hopes and expectations for the penultimate season. This past weekend Barry and Dave checked out Chiller Theater Expo in New Jersey, and they share who they saw, and what they found there. There's also a round of What's in the Box and the usual Random Topics. Thanks for listening and or watching! This week, the Regular Joes star with the usual mix of Random Topics, followed by a rundown of the various shows they are currently watching across the various streaming services and even a few on broadcast TV of all places. Are they all watching the same shows, do they agree on what's good and what's worth skipping? Tune in to find out! 616: Poster Conservation with Lee Milazzo

This week, the Regular Joes along with our good friend and semi-regular co-host Brian Mix travel to Bridgeport Connecticut to visit Poster Conservation. Owner Lee Milazzo and his team of artisans conserve, restore and repair posters of all sizes and types so they look as good as they day they were printed, and will last the test of time! They can even work their magic on some posters that most people would think were beyond repair. Lee gives us a full tour of the shop and a demo of each process they use to conserve and restore these posters…including some processes that seem counter intuitive or even destructive to "old paper"; but they have mastered their techniques over the past 33 years to being these pieces of art back to life. Towards the end of the episode, Lee reveals a poster that Brian had restored by the team, and we get to see his reaction to their amazing work in real time. You won't want to miss this, even if you are not a poster nerd like Barry and Dave, I promise you will be amazed by what they can do! Thanks for watching, and listening! 615: Remembering Legendary Collector Bob Burns

In the realm of film props there are collectors, and then there was the late Bob Burns. Over the course of his lifetime, through friends, coworkers, and industry connections, Bob assembled an unparalleled cache of screen used sci-fi and horror film items. Perhaps the only thing more inspiring than the treasure trove he amassed was the kindness and generosity he and his wife Kathy showed towards folks with common interests. This week the Regular Joes recognize the life and legacy of Bob Burns through the memories of two of his many friends; Tom Spina of Regal Robot and Tom Spina Designs, and author John Michlig, who literally wrote the book on Bob. 614: Project Hail Mary

Amaze! Amaze! Amaze! The eagerly anticipated film adaptation of Andy Weir's 2021 novel Project Hail Mary is finally in theaters. We'll cut to the chase, it's awesome. This week, Barry, Dave, and Tod, joined by Brian Mix, talk about the film, based on a book, and in some cases audiobook, they all love. If you're in no way familiar with the story there will be SPOILERS. But if that's the case, you really need to do something about that soon. And once you'll seen it, you'll know why these four Regular Joe's give the film four downturned thumbs. There's also the usual Random Topics, and a round of What's in the Box. 613: Firefly and Starfleet Academy

This week, The Regular Joe's take a last look at the first season of the newest Star Trek spinoff series, Starfleet Academy. Dismissed by many as part of NU Trek "(aka not my Star Trek) Academy presents a starting point for new viewers as well as new cadets. Is it perfect? No, it is not. But there's enough good there to be hopeful for the future. And isn't that what Star Trek is supposed to be about? Firefly, another canceled before it peaked sci-fi series, hopes to return in animated form. While this is not exactly the news everyone was hoping for, any chance to get this particular band back together is welcome. There's also the usual random topics in a Round of What's in the box. 612: Propstore March 2026 Auction

This week Barry, Dave, and Tod check out the catalog for the upcoming Prop Store Entertainment Memorabilia Auction. There are a lot of familiar offerings, but also several new things worth taking out a second mortgage for, like C-3PO's head, a legendary broken sword, or maybe fishing gear from the worst fishing trip ever. Even if you're not laying down big money, it's fun to play. What if … There's also the usual random topics, including speculation on the Firefly announcement we will be hearing about very soon. And as they continue to acknowledge the 60th anniversary of Star Trek, one host seems to be weakening on his life long The Motion Picture position. Thanks for watching, and listening! 611: Knights, Aliens and Monsters - TV Recap

This week, the Regular Joes talk about three very different TV series. Pluribus is a surprise hit for Apple, though it really shouldn't be. Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan knows how to tell a compelling story. This time he takes the alien body snatcher trope and goes places you would never expect. Just when you thought another trip to Westeros would be more of the same HBO serves up a Knight of Seven Kingdoms. Much more about impalement, then backstabbing, Knight gives us a character piece that does not require a chart or spreadsheet to follow. While the first two shows are unexpected surprises Monarch: Legacy of the Monsters back for a second season on Apple is not. With one episode to date it's everything we loved … plus Kong. 610: Fortune and Glory! with Alex Arnold

This week, Alex Arnold shares his deep passion for Indiana Jones with the Regular Joes, detailing his journey as a collector, from his childhood memories of watching the films to the thrill of attending the red carpet premiere of 'Dial of Destiny,' Alex discusses the evolution of Indiana Jones collectibles and the importance of maintaining a positive outlook in fandom. Alex also reflects on his interactions with notable figures like John Rhys-Davies and the impact of Indiana Jones on his life. 609: Galileo Restoration with Adam Schneider

This week Brian Mix joins Barry, Dave, and Tod to formally announce the Kickstarter effort to provide a home for the Shuttlecraft Galileo at the Official Star Trek Set Tour in Ticonderoga, New York. The Galileo has endured a long, and often perilous, journey in the decades since The Original Series ended its three year run. There is no one better equipped to tell that story than Adam Schneider, who purchased the largest surviving original Star Trek series prop in 2012 and painstakingly restored it to its former glory. Adam's personal fleet of Star Trek production models includes some of the most iconic starships from the series … oh, and he has the Genesis Device. It's an interview Trek fans won't want to miss. 608: Super Bowl Winners and Losers

This week, the Regular Joe's play Monday evening quarterback, providing color commentary on the big sports-ball matchup from this past weekend. Who won and who lost. Did Pepsi score by co-opting polar bears from their competitor Coca-Cola? Did callbacks to 90's hits Jurassic Park and Good Will Hunting work for Xfinity and Dunkin' Donuts? There were a whole lot of AI ads for companies whose names you've already forgotten, more big names than you can count, and more money spent than seems even remotely reasonable. Does it matter? One expert says no. There's also round of What's in the Box, and What's on my Workbench for some project updates and tool tips. Thanks for watching and listening! 607: TV Guide 2026 Edition

This week the Regular Joes talk TV. Which may not seem all that unusual, but it has been a while since they did a rundown of all the new and returning series in the pipeline for the coming months. And there is a lot of them. From returning favorites like The Boys, For All Mankind and Daredevil: Born Again, to intriguing new offerings like Lanterns, Young Sherlock, and Wonder Man. Speaking of Wonder Man, there is also a brief, mostly spoiler free, discussion of this unconventional new Marvel/Disney+ series which Dave somehow only managed to watch two episodes of. What's with that? The man can knock out three Disney parks in a day, and he can't commit to four hours of a TV series? There's also the usual Random Topics at a round of What's in the Box. 606: Star Trek Designer - John Eaves

Model Maker and Concept Artist John Eaves has made a huge mark on the Star Trek franchise, as well as many other universes including The MCU. This week John sits down with the Regular Joes Barry, Dave and Tod, plus Irregular Joe Brian Mix, to discuss how he got started, his long career, and the stuff he collects himself. It's a great peek behind the curtain at all the things we love with the man who designed one USS Enterprise, and reimagined two others. How cool is that! Thanks for watching and listening! 605: Star Trek - Starfleet Academy

Starfleet Academy is a concept that's been kicking around for decades, but has never quite gotten off the launchpad. At long last it's here. But is this the show Trek fans want? Set in the far-future, or is it the future of the future? Starfleet Academy picks up the post Discovery timeline to go WHEN no one has gone before. The Regular Joe's sum up their thoughts two episodes in. Along with Random Topics, Barry, Dave and Tod also reflect on the end of an era for Star Wars as the door closes behind Kathleen Kennedy. 603: Stranger Things and Holiday Gifts

It's time once again for the Regular Joe's holiday gift exchange. Basically three of the hardest people on the planet to buy for swap gifts. What could go wrong? But first, Derryl and Brian join Barry, Dave and Tod to share their thoughts on nearly 10 years and five seasons of Netflix supernatural phenomenon Stranger Things. Who would've believed back when the first season aired that the most improbable thing in the final episodes would be that these actors are still supposed to be in high school. 602: Is it a Christmas Movie?

This week Barry Dave and Tod explore the question, what is a Christmas Movie? While all right minded folks agree Die hard is every bit as much a holiday staple as say, It's a Wonderful Life, or Elf, some go to extreme lengths to squeeze any film with a Christmas tree into the mix. Seriously, who lights the fireplace, pours an eggnog and cues up Eyes Wide Shut? The hosts define their personal guidelines, and delve into their favorite "real" Christmas movies, and ultimately, songs. They also work in a round of Whats in the Box, and acknowledge the passing, and legacies, of Gil Girard and Bob Burns. Thanks for listening and Happy holidays! This week marks a major milestone for the Regular Joes Podcast as they celebrate their 600th episode! Dave, Barry, and Tod welcome back a very special guest...actor, collector, and all-around great guy Titus Welliver. Titus, who is best known for his starring roles in television hits like Bosch and his memorable appearances in films and series such as Lost and Deadwood, co-hosts this weeks show, which turned into a giant-sized episode filled with stories of their shared love of collecting everything from toys and action figures to comics, movie memorabilia and more. 598: It's "the Holiday" Auction Season

As the holiday season kicks into full swing , interestingly, it is now apparently the auction season. As, in the coming weeks, a large collection of offerings from Jim Henson Studios are on the block at Julian's. And both the Prop Store and Heritage Auctions have large entertainment memorabilia auctions, kicking off within days of each other. So if you're looking for that last-minute gift, particularly for one of the show hosts, this is your chance to pick up a Blade Runner blaster, Rocketeer helmet or Boba Fett's Gun. 597: Predatory Behavior

Predator Badlands is the eighth, or ninth film if you count the animated feature, in the long running franchise. Nearly three decades after Arnold Schwarzenegger said, "Get to the chopah!" these ugly dudes just keep coming back for more. This week, Dave, who sees more merit in the Predator films than most, talked Tod, who has skipped the entire franchise since 1997, into seeing Predator Badlands. The results are somewhat surprising. So, is this series, as Tod claims, a cash grab? Trying to squeeze another dollar out of a tired property? Does the overlap with the Alien universe give it some measure of significance? Answers to all these questions and more, as the Regular Joe's take a deep dive into the Predator saga. There's also the usual Random Topics and, a round of What's in the Box! As per their annual ritual, this week the Regular Joe's, Barry, Brian, Dave, Derryl and Tod traveled from near, and not as near, to attend the Rhode Island Comic Con., AKA The biggest con in the littlest State. And, as usual, they claimed their traditional sofa in the lobby of the lovely Omni Providence, and recorded live. They recap the show, who they saw, what they bought, and have a terrific sit down with Brendon Wayne, who, along with fellow actor Pedro Pascal, and stuntman Lateef Crowder, is the Mandalorian … of the Mandalorian. The Rhode Island Comic Con is just one week away, so it's time to gather the team and work out a plan of attack. Begining with, who among the insane list of guests are they most excited to see, and maybe even interview. There also the usual Random Topics, a run down of what road warriors Brian and Derryl have been up to, and a reminder that it's never good to invite Tod into your home. This week the Regular Joes go all in on Tron. Maybe you, like the most of rest of the movie going public did not see Tron: Aries last weekend, but Barry, Dave and Tod did. And, lest you doubt their commitment, they all re-watched Tron (1982) and Tron Legacy (2010). At this point, they pretty much bleed neon. The results are three different perspectives on the three films, and a sometimes surprising rundown of who liked what. There's also a tribute to the late, great artist Drew Struzan, whose iconic imagery, including posters for Back to the Future and Blade Runner, span generations. 592: Display Space, the Finite Frontier

Let's face it, this really is a first world problem. I bought too much stuff and now I'm not sure what to do with it. This week the Regular Joe's address, the third phase of collecting. First comes coveting, then comes acquisition, then, like the peripheral dog that caught the car, you have the thing and now you have to find a place to put it. This all seemed simpler decades ago, when there was seemingly less stuff. In reality, there are far more display options available now than ever before. Some very reasonably priced, If you have the space . . . it all comes down to space. If you're a collector, an accumulator, or a hoarder you have dealt with similar realities. OK, maybe not so much if you're a hoarder, but that would be a different episode. Anyways, there's some good advice to be had, or at least a bit of commiseration with kindred souls. There's also the usual random topics and a round of What's in the Box. Thanks for listening! 591: What The . . . Flag?

You can live in a fascist utopia where everything seems ideal, as long as you don't look too closely at the uncomfortable details. Or, you can live in a techno-oligarchy, where a handful of mega corporations make all of the decisions for you with little regard beyond their bottom line. Fortunately, you don't have to choose, because Peacemaker on HBO Max (I think that's what it is called this week) and Alien Earth on FX/Hulu let you stick a toe in each universe. This week, the Regular Joes wrap up the first season of Noah Hawley's Alien Earth, and discuss the episode six reveal that drives home how little we understood what is actually happening in James Gunn's Peacemaker season two. Are they good? Let's just say these two creators excel at getting new life out of existing properties. There's also the usual Random Topics and around of What's in the Box. Thanks for listening! 590: Sunset on Sundance

In the old Hollywood tradition Robert Redford may well be "the last movie star." His film career spanned six decades, and included numerous iconic roles. This week the full slate of Regular Joes list their favorite Redford films, ranging from the epic to the obscure. And whether you favor the Sundance kid, Jeremiah Johnson, Jay Gatsby, Bob Woodward, or Roy Hobbs, Redford brought an endearing charisma and charm to every role in every era. His subsequent work as an Oscar winning filmmaker, activist, and proponent for independent films leave a legacy few can ever match. We will not see his kind again. There's also the usual Random Topics and around of What's in the Box. Thanks for listening!

589: Plot Point or Plot Twist?

Months ago, Tod saw, and recommended Companion (2025), the Jack Quaid, Sophie Thatcher dark comedy that Google lists as as a "Horror, Thriller, Science Fiction, Romance." On Rotten Tomatoes it comes in at 93%. On IMDB. It's a 6.9. Recently, Dave stumbled upon it and suggested Barry watch as well. To say "opinions vary" on this one is kind of an understatement. Apparently a lot of it comes down to the expectations you go in with … like if you've never read the introductory blurb, or seen the trailer, you might be surprised by something other than what the studio intended. Maybe you should also just watch. There's also the usual round of Random Topics and the debut of a new segment called Back in Time. Thanks for listening!

    588: PEACEmaker ON alien EARTH

At first glance, there seem to be no similarities between the sci-fi series, Alien Earth (FX/Hulu), and the second season of Peacemaker (HBO). But both are offshoots of existing franchises, shepherded by creators with unique, and often, visceral styles. To date Noah Hawley's Alien Earth has proven anything but predictable, while redefining the nature of "Alien" threats. Who knew a sheep could be that creepy. Over in the DC universe, or in at least two of them, James Gunn is actively disproving the idea that the multiverse concept is played out. As he takes his flawed protagonist even further down by showing him the flipside of his own bad life choices. There's also a round of What's in the Box and the usual random topics. Thanks for listening!

    587: SNW . . . WTF?

In its third season Strange New Worlds has gone a long way towards living up to the first word in its title. From its inception, the pre-Kirk (somewhat) Enterprise series promised to avoid the long drawn out arcs that bogged down its predecessor Star Trek: Discovery. No one anticipated the bizarre, random, series of non sequiturs we've been served up this season. While there have been some funny bits, and a few noteworthy bits, most of the seven episodes to date have left viewers scratching their heads. This week, Barry, Brian, Dave and Tod break down the season so far and ask, can the series be saved? Opinions vary, mostly About "Four and a Half Vulcans." There's also a round of What's in the Box and the usual random topics. Thanks for listening!

  34. 595

    586: Aliens & Auctions

There are many who argue that the Alien film series lost its mojo way back on LV-476. The horror / thriller /sci-fi franchise created by Ridley Scott, and given a pulse rifle shot-in-the-arm by James Cameron, seemed like it would never regain its former glory or so we thought until last year's Alien Romulus made us rethink that equation. Now, Noah Hawley (Legion, Fargo) brings the saga back home. This week, the Regular Joe's take a first look at Alien Earth, a very different approach to the Alien(s) universe. Before that, Dave and Barry get the VIP treatment at another auction preview featuring iconic props from some of our favorite franchises. There's also a round of What's in the Box and the usual random topics. Thanks for listening!

    585: Five Joes, Five Shows

As we hit the hottest stretch of the summer, the full slate of Joes have skipped the beach and instead migrated to cavernous, over air-conditioned, convention halls all across the country. In last week's episode, you heard Barry Dave and Tod's sit down with Titus Welliver, this time they update you on the other things they did while at TerrificCon in Connecticut. Out on the final frontier, Brian Mix did double duty hitting Star Trek Las Vegas, before making his way back east to his second home in upstate New York, for Trekonderoga. To be certain Star Wars got equal time, Derryl checked in at the second annual Rebel Scum Con in Dallas Texas. This was after visiting the 10th FarleyCon in East Ridge, Tennessee, which covers all range of pop culture, and not simply, as one might suspect, the work of Chris Farley. There was also the Usual Random topics and a round of What's in the Box. Thanks for listening!

  36. 593

584: Titus Welliver, Collector / Actor

You may know him as Detective Harry Bosch from Amazon's Bosch and Bosch Legacy series, or maybe from Star Trek Voyager, Deadwood, Lost, The Mandalorian, Titans, or any of dozens other roles Titus Welliver has had in TV, Films, Animation, and Audiobooks. This week Barry, Dave and Tod sit down with Titus at Terrificon in Connecticut to talk a little bit about his career as an actor, and a whole lot about his varied, and quite familiar, collecting interests. They cover 1960's to 1980's toys, Aurora Models, firearms, and pretty much any thing that else that comes to mind. It's a great interview with a fascinating guest. Enjoy!

  37. 592

    583: Fantastic Five: First Thoughts

583: Fantastic Five: First Thoughts This week all five Regular Joe's, Barry, Brian, Dave, Derryl and Tod, sit down to talk about the newest entry in Marvel's ever expanding MCU, Fantastic Four: First Steps. Is the fourth attempt to adapt the Fantastic Four the movie we have been waiting for? Will this film be able to turn around Marvel's lackluster box office record of late? Can five guys, with differing degrees of exposure to the Fantastic Four comics, see eye-to-eye on the latest bid to bring Marvel's first family from the page to the screen? And, lastly, can they talk about FF without comparing it to Superman? SPOILER, they can not. There's also the usual Random Topics, a round of What's in the Box, and a brief tribute to the late, great Ozzy Osbourne. Thanks for listening!

  38. 591

    582: Strange New Episodes

582: Strange New Episodes This week, the Regular Joes take a 1st look at 2 episodes from the 3rd season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. While very different in tone the two episodes are both deeply rooted and original series Trek lore. This prompts some next level nerding as the three take a deep dive down the Jeffries tube. The most recent Heritage Hollywood entertainment auction just wrapped up. Barry and Dave give their thoughts on some of the items they were able to see in person at the recent auction preview. The bottom line is, prices aren't going down. Particularly if you're interested in an old sled, someone once threw away, or 60's era knickknack that doubles as housing for a genie. There's also the usual rounds of Random Topics and What's in the Box! Thanks for listening!

  39. 590

    581: Superman: Gunn's Speeding Bullet

Superman, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster's comic book creation, has seen numerous incarnations over the last eight decades. The last son of Krypton has been heard on radio, and seen in animation, serials, films, and several TV series. While each is a product of its time, some are clearly hits while others are misses. At long last James Gunn, best known for Guardians of the Galaxy, has his turn at bat. And, in the view of critics, movie goers, and all three Regular Joes, he has hit it out of the ballpark. The Film both reclaims Superman's position as the cornerstone of the DC universe and heralds an exciting new era under Gunn's stewardship. Note: there will be SPOILERS. So, if you have had any hesitation, just see the movie. There's also the usual round of Random Topics and yet more What's in the Box! Thanks for listening!

  40. 589

    580: Iron Heartburn

Few TV series have taken hits as hard as Ironheart on Disney+. Review bombed even before the first episode aired, raged about online by comment bros angered by the notion of (dead) MCU Tony Stark being replaced by a black girl, it hardly stood a chance. The question is, did it deserve one? On the plus side they got it over mercifully quick, six episodes released in just two weeks at least minimized the suffering. The Joes, who have all watched it to some degree give their perspectives on what they've done right, and what they've done wrong. There's also the usual Random Topics a rare round of Shirt Up, and the inevitable What's in The Box. Thanks for listening!

  41. 588

    579: We're Gonna Need a Bigger DeLorean

This week, the full complement of Regular Joes, Barry, Brian, Dave, Derryl, and Tod take a moment to recognize two summer blockbusters that have reached milestone anniversaries. Steven Spielberg's Jaws (1975) which is looking pretty good at the half century mark. And Robert Zemeckis' Back to the Future (1985) the film that earned Marty McFly, Doc Brown and the DeLorean (the cyber truck of its era) permanent positions, in pop culture. What made them stand out back in the day? What about the parade of sequels that followed each of these films? And, what's more frightening, a twenty-five-foot great white, or parking with your horny 17 year old mom? There's also the usual topics and Round of What's in the Box. Thanks for listening!

  42. 587

    578: Coming Distractions: Summer '25

For some reason, known only to network and streaming service executives, late spring often seems like a wasteland in the TV landscape, leaving even Tod struggling to find something to watch. In this episode the Regular Joe's catch up on what they've been viewing in recent weeks. As we ease into summer there is hope, along with a pair of high stakes superhero films, on the horizon and they run down the high points for the coming weeks. Also, with Barry finally caught up, they close the door on The controversial second season of The Last of Us. And, in case you were wondering, what was on their respective minds this past Monday there's the usual Random Topics. Thanks for listening!

  43. 586

    577: Dancing with Flamethrowers

This week Dave and Tod went to the ballet. What, you're not buying that? Then let's go with, this week the two of them went to see Ballerina the John Wick spin-off starring Ana de Armas. Which, perhaps not surprisingly, is less a cultural experience and more like watching a John Wick film with a much more attractive, protagonist. If hot women and flamethrowers don't do it for you, they also discuss the awesome, but eclectic, EXO6 1/6 Star Trek figure line. And then, tariffs be damned, there's a Round of What's in the Box. And, of course, there's the usual Random topics. Thanks for listening!

  44. 585

576: Boldly Going with Daren Dochterman

Next up it's the latest installment in the ongoing "Brian Knows a Guy" series. This time the regular hosts and Brian Mix sit down with Daren Dochterman. An illustrator and set designer for the motion picture industry who has worked on numerous projects, including dozens of films. A guest at the recent Wonderfest, Mr. Dochterman, who is currently working on projects with the Roddenberry Archive, shares his insights and experiences in film production, including the final, and ultimate version of, Star Trek: the Motion Picture. It's a far ranging interview with a fascinating man. And yes, there's also the usual Random Topics. Thanks for listening!

  45. 584

575: WonderFest 2025 ... and here's to you Miss Robinson

This week the regular Regular Joe's, along with Brian "I know a guy" Mix, travel to Louisville, Kentucky for Wonderfest, the long, running convention for modelers, both amateur and professional. The 35th annual show hosted an amazing range of entries from the basic to the extreme, including more renderings of the Creature from the Black Lagoon than you could count. There was also a broad selection of dealers, assuring that even the non-modelers had to fly home with something. They were joined there by many longtime friends, including. Steve Smith who talks about how he transitioned from attendee to vendor with his own custom offerings. Along the way they also sit down with Marta Kristen, Judy Robinson in the original Lost in Space 1965-1968. She shared memories of working on that series and, because Barry had to ask, playing Lorelei the mermaid in Beach Blanket Bingo (1965). A good time was had by all. Thanks for listening!

  46. 583

    574: Final Mission?

After three decades and seven previous cinematic outings, super agent Ethan Hunt clocks in for, what is said be, his final mission. This week the Joes pass on Lilo and Stitch and instead check out Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning. Does this newest entry in the venerable action thriller franchise break out of the time tested mold of, a world threatening McGuffin, death-defying stunts, and lots of Tom Cruise running? SPOILER. No, not so much. Does it do an exceptional job of staying in its lane, even while raising the stakes, and looking amazingly good doing it? Again SPOILER, yes, yes it does. While no one who has ever seen a Mission Impossible film will be surprised by what they see, they won't be disappointed either. There's also the usual Random Topics, including some superfluous, Star Wars themed, dead horse beating, and a round of What's in the Box. Thanks for listening!

  47. 582

    573: Hero of the Rebellion

In 2018 when Disney announced a Star Wars TV series based on the Cassian Andor character from Rogue One (2016) the news was met with a resounding … Really? In 24 episodes, three years of our time, covering five years of his time, we've come to know Cassian Andor better than any other character in the Star Wars cinematic universe. We've seen his triumphs, his failures, and the sometimes meandering path that led him to his demise in Rogue One. It's the tale of how a thief became a spy, who became a hero and some of the best storytelling under the Star Wars banner. You can argue about it being slow at times, you can point out the areas where it gets obsessed with minutia, but when you step back and look at the big picture it's an amazing and unique narrative. This week the Joes address the final episodes of Andor and cover some Random Topics. Thanks for listening!

  48. 581

    572: Good And/Or Great

aka - A long time to watch in a galaxy far, far away … Star Wars (1977) has a runtime of 121 minutes. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), considered by right minded people to be the best of the Star Wars prequels, has a runtime of 136 minutes. Andor the prequel, or perhaps prelude, to Rogue One clocks in at 1212 minutes, or just over 20 hours. This week, with three of four, three episode Andor arcs released the Regular Joe's devote even more time to examining how those minutes were spent. There's no disagreement that Andor has its moments of greatness. What is in dispute is, whether the great justifies the wait. As you might expect, opinions vary. You may also like to know, the Regular Joes Podcast has received a Major Award (yes, thats a Christmas Story reference), we were named one of the top collecting podcasts on the web by Million Podcast, you can see the full list here - https://www.millionpodcasts.com/collecting-podcasts/ There's also the usual Random Topics, and a round of What's in the Box. 571: Thunderbolts Kicks *

This week, the Regular Joe's take on Marvel's Thunderbolts* or is it the New Avengers? The film which proves 36 installments into a franchise you can still come up with something new and different to do with an odd collective of 2nd tier characters. As Brian Mix is on board, they give him a brief opportunity to express his dissenting opinion about the Last of Us, before the others explain why he is totally wrong. Somewhat inevitably, some discussion of Andor creeps in as well. There's also the usual Random Topics. Thanks for listening!

  50. 579

    570: 2nd Season Samplings

This week, the Regular Joe's tackle the first trio of episodes from two shows returning for long awaited sophomore seasons. The Last of Us was the surprise hit of 2023. It is the rare video game property that found a life of its own, and proved that zombies weren't actually done to death. The show returns with a gut punch of a second episode, delivering tandem assaults viewers are unlikely to forget. Meanwhile, in a galaxy, not all that far away, Andor, the 2022 prequel to Star Wars prequel Rogue One, is back, depicting the title character's evolution from, dude out for himself, to rebel hero. While not everyone agrees on how Tony Gilroy chose to use screen time, the first of four three episode arcs reminds us how good Star Wars really can be. There's also a round of What's in the Box and the usual Random Topics.
