1.07 - Falling Off Task, Head Shots, and Cat Paintings, Oh My!

After a week off from the podcast, I return to discuss a few items that I was working on instead of prepping for the exhibition next March. I also had a professional head shot made (which will be used to promote the exhibition)and made some RGB cat paintings for an upcoming fundraiser at Box 13 ArtSpace.

    1.06 - Recapping a Productive Week

It's been a great week of progress on my "Blocks" exhibition. In this episode, I recap my meeting with my developer who will help with some web-based pieces for the show; I discuss my visit to the gallery to make notes, record measurements, and takes photos; and I got some scraps of translucent vinyl to play around with. If you'd like to see some photos from the space, please visit http://tinyurl.com/SharedBlocks

1.05 - Guns, Networking, and Adhesive Vinyl

The Orlando Shooting has been on my mind. I talk of thinking about -- and then stopping from -- making art as a response. I also touch on the importance of networking, and how an established connection led to a new resource and opportunity for my Blocks exhibition.

1.04 - Stripes, pt. 2: Daniel Buren & Katrina Moorhead

For the second half of my discussion on stripes as a formal element in art, I talk about the work of Daniel Buren and Katrina Moorhead, a pair of artists whose stripes have recently been on my mind.

  5. 3

    1.03 - Stripes, pt 1: RGB and Sometimes Y

Stripes are a prominent feature of my "RGB and Sometimes Y" series of work. In this episode, I talk about how that series came to be, how Twitter is used in the creation of the patterns, and how the series has evolved in past seven years. I also try to anticipate how the work could fit in the "Blocks" exhibition.

    1.02 - Project Introduction

I’ve got a little story for ya Ags! Do you have any dream gigs at the top of your professional wish list? As an artist, I’ve long wanted to one day return to my alma mater to stage a solo exhibition. Amazingly, that dream is now becoming a reality, and in this episode, I give some backstory on the project that will now remain the focus of the remainder of this first season. I also touch on some unexpected challenges of working within this particular gallery space. Will I be able to instead use these perceived limitations to my advantage?

  7. 1

    1.01 – Understanding Audience

In this inaugural episode, I reflect on the audience of my artwork. In this exercise, I take a look at the sales performance of works I have donated over the past several years to two Houston arts organizations as part of their fundraising efforts. In one case, my work has sold well, bringing in money to help the organization. In the other...well, not so much. What can I learn about my audience by considering these results?
