HAPPY PRIDE MONTH!! To celebrate, we talk about the history of LGBTQ+ rights and pride parades. We made a timeline that highlights events from Canadian and US that are significant in LGBTQ+ history. We got to sit down with Cynthia from Silla to talk about their music and how they mix traditional Inuit throat singing with other genres to form an original sound. Despite its recognition with the different committees, though, it’s received tons of backlash since it’s become available to audiences. Some criticisms include racist stereotypes of Mexican culture, tokenism when it comes to trans people, and no one from the movie utilizing their platform to actually speak about trans-rights/issues

Having immigrated from Nigeria, Zochi talks about how her immigrating prompted her to re-find her identity as a queer woman outside of the restrictive anti-LGBTQ laws in her home country. Zochi has been featured in many articles, played on international radio stations, and during all of this has remained faithful as she found her footing in Canada. We’re so happy she came in!! Anti-Intellectualism actually isn’t as ground-breaking as you think it is- in fact, it kind of just makes you easier to manipulate BY establishment you think you’re protesting. In this episode we ever a bit from pop culture and discuss the movement of anti-intellectualism, which is the movement away from education. Us, as students, don’t believe education should be pushed as hard as it is for some people/things, but we also think it is really needed. We hung out for a bit after the interview with Marz and talked about a new sub-genre of horror that’s begun to come out within the past few years, which is feminist horror movies. Marz explains why she believes women are innately capable of making good horror films, we talk about other personal favourites (like “The Ritual”), and Marz expands on some of her answers in the interview

We interviewed Marz Gebhart at the end of last month, a local screenwriter and director :) she’s most known for her work with Amy Swallow on her music videos (“Heroin(e) Hypocrite”, most notably). She is also a local screenwriter and is currently studying through the Toronto Film School after completing her Bachelor’s Degree in English (Honours) at the University of Regina in 2022. She is also known for “Martian Mail” (her poetry/postcards), for her work with the Mackenzie Art Gallery, and her work with the Regina International Film Festival & Awards (RIFFA).

Huuuugeeeee spoiler alert with this one- honestly, unless we say otherwise, just assume that if we’re talking about a movie there will be some. “The Substance” is another feminist horror movie we got to see recently. It has a lot of themes surrounding the psychological effects of the beauty industry and the idolization of youth, and that’s about all we can say in the description without giving the whole plot away lol. *Spoiler Warning*This trend of feminist horror movies is something we’re living for, honestly. Recently we went to go see Anna Kendrick’s “Woman of the Hour”, the first movie she’s ever directed! She also plays Cheryl in it, the bachelorette on “The Dating Show”- a game show from the 60’s that once hosted Rodney Alcala, a notorious American serial killer who would pose as a photographer to unsuspecting womenHere’s the storyline as according to IMDB: “Woman of the Hour is based on the stranger-than-fiction true story of Cheryl Bradshaw and Rodney Alcala. Bradshaw was a bachelorette on the hit '70s TV matchmaking show The Dating Game and chose handsome and funny bachelor No. 3, Rodney Alcala. But behind Alcala's charming facade was a deadly secret: He was a psychopathic serial killer.”

At the end of the month last month, we had the opportunity to interview Annaxis while she stopped in Regina to perform! We can’t get over how driven, cool, and educated this girl is- and she’s only 19?! Dude, we are so impressed. Anna Hunter is a self-described “Kate Bush enthusiast” hailing from Winnipeg, which is apparently flatter than Saskatchewan. Her music can be described as a mix of punk, post-punk, and Kate Bush influences. We wish we had gotten the chance to see her perform but unfortunately we were both working, so hopefully Anna will make her way back over again sometime soon :)

Little bit different from our usual episodes, but we like to switch it up sometimes! And before we are radio or podcast hosts, we are women! Without other feminists who came before us, we wouldn’t have a lot of the same choices and freedoms we have today. Lots of men tend to steer away from feminism because they tend to believe that feminism = “we hate men”. The truth is, feminism needs men’s support to work because of the unequal power structures in lots of patriarchal societies. In this episode we talk about hegemonic masculinity and how it negatively affects not just women, but also men and their perceptions of themselves.

We just have to keep talking about all the P Diddy stuff honestly because?!?! I mean, we kind of expected it, but did anyone think it was THIS bad? Ashton Kutcher is currently getting a divorce with Mila Kunis (initiated by her possibility?) and he was best friends with Diddy. And he had an organization against sex trafficking…? Convicted killer Wade Wilson has become a recognizable figure for his horrendous murders and good looks?? People are comparing him to the infamous serial killer Ted Bundy, because of the way he persuades women with his appearance. Wilson has been convicted of two cases of murder and has been sentenced to death. However, he has a dedicated fan base who are actively trying to reduce his sentence. In today’s episode, we take a look at Wilson’s past, the murders he has committed, and analyze his new online fan base. Chappell Roan is one of the newest artists in pop music but she has already made a significant impact. How crazy is it that a queer artist, writing about the queer experience, has been consistently topping the charts since early 2024? This would not have been the case even just a couple decades ago. We love her music, her persona as an artist, and the fact that she’s not afraid to speak her mind on issues (considering most artists are almost forced to remain civil even when being disrespected).

Does this even need a description? If you haven’t seen Jojo Siwa on your timeline, where have you been for the past year? Everything we know about her is stuff we’ve found out unwillingly. Taking a closer look though, it’s (tbh) kind of sad. Jojo Siwa is a child star who has never known what it means to be a normal kid. Could this contribute to the cringe? Potentially (likely, yes). We talk about the effects of fame on children, Jojo Siwa’s sympathies for groomers, and of course, Abby Lee Miller.
