Right Here! Right Now!

RIGHT HERE! RIGHT NOW! is a brand new podcast where we remind you that being present and mindful in each of our moments is the only way to truly be able to learn. And from LEARNING comes GROWTH!  A true transformation into our most authentic selves. The mindset is that we must be present and looking for the lesson in what we are experiencing - day to day; moment to moment. And one of the primary purposes of learning and growth is to take us to places we did not think were possible and to prepare us for a challenge that will make us better human beings; or the lives of our families better; even to help our colleagues and those in our charge better. Sometimes the challenges are known - so many times the challenges are a bit of a surprise. As long as we see the challenge as an opportunity, we will learn from them and carry on to better places down a path lined with lessons and teachings. We recognize in this philosophy that we have the capacity - even the responsibility - to begin agai

A Much Needed Pause ⏸️ Right Here! Right Now!

Sometimes the most powerful step forward begins with a pause. In this special interlude episode of Right Here! Right Now!, we invite listeners to slow down and integrate the insights from the first half of Season 5. Instead of rushing ahead, this episode offers a moment to breathe, reflect, and reconnect with the deeper themes shaping the season - perhaps shaping our experiences.Across the first six episodes, we explored the internal pillars that help us live with greater intention, awareness, and purpose. Each concept builds upon the next, forming a foundation for personal growth and meaningful impact. This episode brings those ideas together and reveals the hidden element that connects them all: the pause.Consider reflecting on these questions as you continue the journey:What have you begun noticing more since Episode 1?What small actions are shaping your identity?Where are you still trying to control what cannot be controlled? What change has quietly reshaped you recently? When did you last truly inhabit the pause?Take one breath. Not to escape the moment. But to inhabit it.Right here. [Bonus Replay] Work Meets Play: The Art of Living with Joy and Purpose

In this episode, we dive into the transformative power of embracing both work and play as interconnected aspects of life, inspired by a timeless quote from Francois Auguste Rene Chateaubriand. The idea of fully immersing oneself in any endeavor—whether it’s labor or leisure—creates a space where the distinction between work and play fades, allowing us to approach life with a sense of wonder and creativity. We reflect on how this mindset has reshaped my approach to my own career in healthcare and how a spirit of playfulness and joy can enrich our professional lives, leading to deeper engagement, collaboration, and even innovation. This episode challenges us to cultivate mindfulness, presence, and enthusiasm in everything we do, transforming ordinary tasks into opportunities for growth and fulfillment and yes, joy!!Key Takeaways:Work and Play as One: By integrating joy and purpose into our tasks, we blur the lines between work and play, creating more fulfilling experiences.Flow and Mindfulness: Being present in the moment, whether at work or during recreation, allows us to tap into a state of flow where challenges become enjoyable.Intrinsic Motivation: Shifting from a mindset of “I have to” to “I get to” go to work can transform your outlook, fostering creativity and gratitude.Childlike Wonder: Reclaiming the joy and curiosity of our youth can bring levity to even the most serious of tasks, allowing for more connection and collaboration.Practical Wisdom: We share our insights on how to apply these principles in everyday life, from the workplace to personal pursuits.Quote of the Episode: "A master in the art of living draws no sharp distinction between his work and his play; his labor and his leisure; his mind and his body; his education and his recreation." – Francois Auguste Rene ChateaubriandMentioned in this Episode:Heraclitus: "No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it is not the same river and he is not the same man."Aristotle: "We are what we repeatedly do, excellence is not an act but a habit."Actionable Insight: Take a moment to reflect on your own life—where can you bring more playfulness and joy into your daily tasks? Start small by finding one area where you can blur the lines between work and leisure, and see how it transforms your approach.Thank You for Listening: Thank you for tuning in to Right Here! Change Changes Us - Right Here Right Now

Change doesn’t just alter our circumstances. It confronts our identity, challenges our illusion of control, and invites us to evolve from who we believe we are toward why we are.In this episode, we explore how we can shift our relationship with change — especially the unwanted and unforeseen kind — from resistance to revelation.Drawing inspiration from Stoic philosophy, modern neuroscience, Adam Grant’s work on belief flexibility, and Maya Shankar’s The Other Side of Change, this conversation examines:Why change often feels like a threat rather than an opportunityHow attachment to identity fuels resistanceThe difference between volunteered change and imposed changeWhy our WHY becomes our compass when life knocks us off courseThe power of curiosity in becoming better agents of changeThe role of moral elevation in expanding who we believe we can becomeWhy “we contain multitudes” — and why that mattersThis episode re-frames change not as something to endure, but as something to wield.Because:Change doesn’t interrupt the path. It reveals it. What happens to us does not define us. How we evolve through it does.As always, the invitation is simple — return to this moment, and choose consciously who you are becoming.Right here. Right now.Feedback? Ideas? Send us a message

Control and Agency - Right Here Right Now

Control vs. Agency: Where Freedom Really LivesWhat are we truly in control of in our lives—and where does real agency begin? In this episode of Right Here, Right Now, we explore the deeply human tension between control and agency, especially in the face of change, loss, uncertainty, and the thoughts that often feel like they run our lives.Through reflections on internal and external locus of control, mindfulness, Stoic wisdom, and breath-based presence, this episode invites listeners to loosen their grip on the illusion of control without slipping into resignation. Instead, we re-frame agency as something quieter and more powerful: the ability to choose how we relate to what happens. This episode asks:Where is the line between “I make things happen” and “things happen and I respond”?What is the difference between agency and the illusion of control? How do internal and external locus of control shape resilience, meaning, and worth? Why does agency live in the pause between stimulus and response? How can the breath serve as a bridge between surrender and choice? As the episode unfolds, listeners are gently reminded: We don’t control the cards we’re dealt. But we do control how deliberately we play them. This reflection sets the foundation for next week’s episode on the science of change and how change changes us, offering insight, grounding, and practical wisdom for navigating life as it is—right here, right now. This episode invites you to revisit an episode from season 3: Amor Fati Episode Feedback? Threshold to a New Identity - Right Here Right Now

What if real change doesn’t begin with a resolution, but with a decision about who you are becoming? In this episode of Right Here, Right Now, we step beyond the familiar “New Year, New You” cycle and into something far more sustainable: identity-based change rooted in presence.Using insights from psychology, mindfulness, and James Clear’s Atomic Habits, this episode explores why so many resolutions fade quickly and how lasting transformation emerges instead from small, deliberate actions aligned with who we wish to be.Along the way, we reflect on:The Fresh Start Effect and why temporal landmarks like New Year’s Day feel so compellingWhy focusing on what we want to do often fails, while focusing on who we want to become enduresJames Clear’s three layers of behavior change: outcomes, processes, and identityThe idea that every small action is a vote for the person you are becomingHow mindful awareness and breath turn ordinary moments into thresholds for renewalThe episode closes with a personal, poetic reflection written on a New Year’s Eve train ride into Brooklyn, weaving memory, nostalgia, and presence into a final invitation: to begin again, not once a year, but moment by moment. This is an episode for anyone who feels the pull to change, but wants to do so with patience, compassion, and depth.Right here.Right now.Feedback? Attention! Attention! Primed to shape our reality and change our life

What if the way you experience the world isn’t determined by what happens to you — but by what your brain allows you to notice? In this Season 5 premiere of Right Here, Right Now, we explore the Reticular Activating System (RAS) — the powerful attentional filter in the brain that shapes what reaches conscious awareness and what fades into the background.By weaving together modern neuroscience, Viktor Frankl’s insight on the space between stimulus and response, and mindfulness practice, this episode reveals how attention is not just a mental habit — it is a force that shapes perception, identity, and freedom. You’ll learn:How the RAS filters reality and influences what you noticeWhy repeated attention trains perception (for better or worse)How mindfulness helps tune the RAS toward what serves youHow expanding the pause between stimulus and response gives you agencyPractical ways to retrain attention and respond more intentionallyThis episode is an invitation to slow down, tune your awareness, and recognize that where attention goes, life follows. As we relaunch Right Here, Right Now for Season 5, this is our shared mission: to tune our awareness, honor the pause, and respond with intention — moment by moment.Right here. Hope in Action: Building a Better Tomorrow, Today (Part 1)

Today we will discuss hope and reflect on pivotal questions, such as:Can envisioning a better future help us navigate the present? What tools can guide us toward a better tomorrow? How can hope and mindfulness coexist without compromising present-moment awareness? What actions can foster hope and lead to a more fulfilling future? The Nature of HopeHope will be presented as a belief that the future can be better, coupled with the capacity to make it so. We will emphasize that hope involves acknowledging challenges and preparing for the journey with resilience and intentionality.Hope as a Cognitive ProcessI will introduce the idea of hope as a bridge between challenges and actionable steps. Mindful Reflection: "I am learning..." Right Here! Right Now!

Through perhaps our greatest virtue of curiosity - a deep held passion for the desire to understand what we seem to not be able to comprehend or make sense of in the world we live in - comes this particular outline of lessons that I continue to learn. A continuous process of thinking and questioning and reflecting and more questioning as possibly one day deeper insight may come. Leading to wisdom…the act of putting it all together in some way to apply new information to new circumstances for a new way of showing up as a better version of you! I am not sure exactly what prompted my thought of putting together some of my own lessons that I have realized over the years of mindful reflection. An offering of some words that have really but one primary purpose from me to you - to be inspired to do some reflecting of your own. Then I wanted to see what I could do to match or somehow cross reference my words with words gifted to us by some really incredible learners and teachers of philosophy, science, practical thought, Stoicism, spiritual gurus…and what has been created was some pretty interesting summaries of various lessons that we can reflect on. Follow on Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnpv2LqaFMseipeTOgnQutA #mindfulness #reflection #podcast #presence #quotesBe present...Be mindful...Right Here! This practice isn’t about blocking out the world; it’s about responding from a place of mindful awareness, building resilience and becoming stronger with each challenge.Finding Solitude Daily: Whether through mindful breathing or moments of self-reflection, solitude can be woven into even the busiest of lives. I encourage my beautiful community of listeners to embrace solitude as a way to reclaim a sense of control, even if it’s just one breath at a time.Tune in to this episode for a thoughtful journey into how solitude and mindfulness can be a refuge, helping us all heal, grow, and find peace. I Don't Want to Grow Up - Right Here! Right Now!

In this heartfelt poetry episode, I am sharing a personal piece dedicated to my beloved boys—and to all of us who wish to hold on to the wonder and freedom of our  youth. Through these words, I hope to reflect on the bittersweet journey of growing up and the desire to keep the magic of childhood alive, despite life’s inevitable pressures and responsibilities.Join me as I read aloud my original work in this beloved connection of words in this poem, I don't want to grow up, a moving reminder to “keep your head up” and “stay young at heart.” I invite listeners to embrace every moment, to find joy in the little things, and to bring that childlike curiosity into all things in our older lives. In a world that often tells us to “grow up,” this poem is a call to slow down, remain present, and make each moment truly count in a wondrous spirit of childlike curiosity - with an open heart and an open mind.Key Themes in This Episode:Cherishing Youthful Wonder: A reflection on how to carry the joy and simplicity of childhood forward, even as we navigate adulthood and perhaps even old age.Mindfulness and Presence: These words offer a powerful reminder to live fully in each moment, making it a timeless treasure.Staying True to Yourself: Encouragement for listeners to keep their inner child alive, resisting the pressures to conform to a “grown-up” world that might dim their light.Notable Excerpts from the Poem:“I don’t want to grow older… I just want to be back in time for a life that was based on the time we erased, to drop back into those wondrous times where time wasn’t timed.”Link to Nostalgia Episode:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-hidden-power-of-nostalgia-right-here-right-now/id1616393846?i=1000565422453 Be present...Be mindful...Be a kid again people!Right Here!Right Now!Feedback? 🎃 Groundless Fears🎃 [Replay] Right Here! Right Now!

As we come upon this season of Halloween - where we look for things that might scare us in a fun and transient way - we will cozy up with the made up things that instill a fear within us - a fear that we battle with a little too often — perhaps needlessly fighting these fears. We will take excerpts from a Stoic philosopher - Seneca - who wrote many philosophical pieces - many in the form of letters. This letter is on “Groundless Fears” written to Lucilius:🎃“There are more things likely to frighten us than there are to crush us; we suffer more often in imagination than in reality.”Join us on our journey where we will be better at recognizing fears that may never come to be and how we can be more mindful and present to combat the fears that torment us needlessly. Be present and be mindful, people! Right Here! The Mindful Path to Inner Strength: From Resilience to Antifragility

Welcome back to Right Here, Right Now! I'm your host, Michael Scicchitano, and today we’re diving deep into how mindfulness can help us build resilience—and even make us antifragile—in the face of life’s inevitable challenges. In this episode, we explore:The Stoic Connection: How ancient wisdom from Stoics like Marcus Aurelius, Seneca, and Epictetus can guide our modern mindfulness practice.Defining Resilience: What does it mean to be resilient, and how can we cultivate this capacity to recover quickly and withstand difficulties?Antifragility: Going beyond resilience, we explore the concept of growing stronger because of challenges, not in spite of them.Mindfulness and Stoicism in Practice: How to integrate mindfulness techniques—like deep breathing and staying present—to respond to stress more calmly and deliberately, and how this aligns with Stoic principles of focusing on what we can control.Practical Steps: Tips on how to use mindfulness and gratitude to not only survive tough times but thrive through them, transforming challenges into opportunities for growth. This episode also features some of my favorite Stoic quotes, including the timeless wisdom from Marcus Aurelius: “The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.” This quote has inspired both modern psychology’s study of resilience and the notion of antifragility.Key Takeaways:Resilience is a practice, a mindset we can develop through mindful awareness of our responses to challenges.Mindfulness allows us to pause, reflect, and shift our focus from what we cannot control to what we are able to control.By embracing difficulties, we don’t just bounce back—we grow stronger, more adaptable, and better equipped to face life’s inevitable struggles.Practical tips for cultivating resilience include mindful breathing, asking "What can I control?" in stressful moments, and practicing daily gratitude, even for the challenges that shape us.If you're ready to take the next step in building resilience and becoming antifragile, this episode is for you. Remember to share, rate, and review the podcast to help spread the message to those who might benefit from these insights.Thank you for being part of this incredible journey with me, and let’s continue growing and strengthening each other—Right Here, Right Now.Feedback? One of my favorite subjects on today's episode - LEARNING! Open yourself up to the things that you do not know! Open your hearts up to that feeling of vulnerability when you must admit that you do not know - for it is the only path to truly be able to learn - and from learning is growth - and an evolution that allows us to be our most authentic versions of ourselves! And let's ponder this quote from Epictetus:"It is impossible for a man to learn what he thinks he already knows."Turn the opportunity to learn into a possibility with being ok with not knowing!Be present and be mindful!Right Here! Mindfulness In Motion - Right Here! Right Now!

Today, we are reminded of what mindfulness means to each of us - to each of our moments in life.  We must be compassionate and kind to ourselves knowing that we will need to constantly put ourselves back on track.  I hope to invigorate a sense of how powerful and impactful the practice of mindfulness can be for each of us.  We go over some of the science behind mindfulness and we attempt to see the benefits of mindfulness in motion - meaning, how we can take the practice of sitting with our thoughts in a non-judgmental manner and how this can translate into a slower and more deliberate and calm apporach to life and the challenges that we know we will face.Be present and be mindful!Right Here!  Right Now! Music Credit:Intro music:STKA_Path To Chaos Strngs from the album STKA-Rock-Orchestral 1 by Strike Audio [Curtis Marolt, William Jay Stein, Michael A. Mindfulness Intention - Amor Fati

Today’s mindfulness intention builds upon the work from one of our more popular episodes…today we reflect and get a little closer to the concept of Amor Fati - The Love of your Fate.  This concept has become very powerful and quite meaningful for me - a practice and mindset we learned from from the Stoics - I have studied it and reflected upon this wisdom in my own life - especially most recently.Amor Fati encourages us to view adversity as a teacher. Mindful Moment - Open Hearts

One of the mantras or values or virtues that I often share here is the capacity to open our minds and our hearts to be better positioned to learn and grow and evolve into the best version of ourselves.  This practice can be a tremendous help in getting in the habit of having a better outlook on how we can handle life’s challenges.  Today we will hear from Pema Chodron and how we can learn how to be more open to what life serves us and how we can approach life with less propensity to react negatively so quickly.  Be present with an open mind and be mindful with an open heart.  Right Here! Mindful Moment - We Make It Look Easy

And today we are going to admire the incredible feats that we - OURSELVES - accomplish. Getting the seemingly impossible done.  And the inspiration for today’s mindful moment is another poem.  This poem - which I have read a bunch of times - is a succinct and precise and warm description of so many of the days that we live - so many of the days we see others are entrenched in…The poem is from the book: Self Love Poetry for Thinkers and Feelers, by Melody Godfred The Self Love Philosopher.  We venture into the things we do and how we get it all done and why, perhaps, we often make it look easy!  Our mindful approach to all that we do will allow us to persist and be disciplined to get it all done.  Be mindful of the work and tasks that you are doing - be present in each moment you have fulfilled what needs to be completed. ABOUT THIS SHOW

RIGHT HERE! RIGHT NOW! is a brand new podcast where we remind you that being present and mindful in each of our moments is the only way to truly be able to learn.
