Mercedes Ugarte's seventh grade students from Monterrey, Mexico learned the iambic pentameter rhythm and the structure of Shakespeare' s sonnets by creating hip-hop beats and rhyming to them.

    Sonnet 12, feat. Henry and Oscar

    Our names are Henry and Oscar, also known as Juanpack.  We rapped sonnet number 12.

    Romeo and Juliet Prologue feat. Isabella and Paloma

    Paloma and Isabella aka Lil Paisa.  We rapped to Shakespeare's famous sonnet The First Sonnet in Romeo and Juliet: Prologue to Act I.  It means about how strong love is. It tells what people are willing to do from love. For example, even killing themselves.

    Sonnet 25 feat. Natalia and Lore

    Hi, we are Natalia and Lore. We decided to rap sonnet 25.  This sonnet is about victory and winning. It describes how a person’s victory rises above their idols and wins fortunes. He talks about how the pride and glory a person carries will remain with them until death and how the honor and glory shall never disappear.

    Sonnet 18 feat. Sofi and Isa

    Our names are Sofia and Isa, we chose to rap sonnet 18 from Shakespeare. It is focused on the loveliness of a friend or lover. The speaker starts asking as question comparing them to a summer's day. Then he introduces the pros and cons of the weather, from an idyllic English summer's day to a dimmed sun and rough winds day.

    Sonnet 6 feat. Regina and Freda

    Our names are Freda and Regina, we chose sonnet number 6 by Shakespeare.  The sonnet we chose is about how summer is the most beautiful time of the year, and how winter is training to overcome summer and start winter.  Then it also tells us how having ten children will make every everything happy because ten more faces will see the view that is summer.

    Sonnet 59 feat. Mariel and Andrea

    Hi we are Mariel and Andrea and rapped sonnet 59 by William Shakespeare. This sonnet is about the lover of Shakespeare and how much he loves his lover, he explained that no one will ever write fully about herself and only he could do it.

    Sonnet 102 feat. Majo and Isa

    Hello our names are Majo and Isa.  We rapped sonnet 102 by William Shakespeare.  This sonnet is about love and how his love increases through time, it starts at spring and goes all the way to summer and farther.  He talks about how he reacts and what he feels.  It also gives various definitions of what love can be.

    Sonnet 13 feat. Regina and Eva

    Our names are Regina and Eva, we chose to rap to sonnet 13 by Shakespeare. The sonnet talks about love for the beauty of youth. It talks about the self identity of this youth beauty and that it is so beautiful, that it should be passed on when she dies and borrowed by someone else. It talks about heritage and how it should be passed on for others to be able to experience what you have experienced with it. It also warns the youth, that he/she will lose beauty if he doesn't revitalize himself.

    Sonnet 140, feat. Cassia and Lizzy

    Hi, our names are Cassia and Lizzy. We rapped Sonnet 140 by Shakespeare. The poem is by a despairing lover, who is on the edge of madness by his loved one. He talks about how she says she loves him but does not, and he is driven crazy by it.  He is also talking about that in his frenzy of madness, he may say mean things about her, or reveal the truth about her.

    Sonnet 18 feat. Allegra and Cecy

    We are the Migas also known as Cecy and Allegra. The sonnet we chose is sonnet 18 by William Shakespeare which was an author in the 1800's. The theme of this sonnet is eternal love.  He compares summer to the person he was in love with, it basically says how summer doesn't last forever like his lover.

    Sonnet 106 feat. Charlie and Jorge

    We are Jorge and Charlie. We decided ro rap a sonnet of the powerful William Shakespeare, the sonnet 106 it's a very nice sonnet. It talks about, the past and like the prince and princess and about love. It's also about a description of a woman because it's talk about her face and her “diving eyes”.

    Sonnet 23 feat. Balbina and Ana Lu

    Our names are Ana Lu and Balbina, aka AB. We rapped Sonnet number 23 written by William Shakespeare. This sonnet is about an actor that forget his lines while performing. And instead of that actor to improvise, he gets impatient and he can't control his fury.  But when he sees the person he cares about all that fury turns into love.  At the end this sonnet, he shows that no actor is perfect.

    Sonnet 62 feat. Caro and Sofi

    Our names are Sofia and Carolina, also known as ‘lil tracks. This poem we rapped is Sonnet 62 by William Shakespeare. It is about excessive jealousy and selfishness.  This poem is his response towards all the criticism he was given in his days due to these traits.  He also admits it to be true, and expresses the guilt he felt, and he also admits that he was self absorbed.  It is a response to the three jealousy Sonnets lined before this one, Sonnets 58, 59, and 61.

    Sonnet 18 feat. Guillermo and Adrian

    Our names are Adrian and Guillermo, also known as Lil GIGI, and Flow. We rapped Sonnet 18, by Shakespeare. The Sonnet that we rapped is about a woman, because at the start of the poem, Shakespeare states “Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?”. In addition to this, the poem says “Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st;” In the words that we use today, this would mean that you won't  lose the beauty that you possess. Finally, the poem also states “So long lives this and this gives life to thee.”  This means that so long will this poem live on, making you immortal.

    Sonnet 7 feat. Paloma and Leah

    We are Paloma and Leah also known as lil’puggy and Levege. We rapped sonnet #7 by William Shakespeare.  This sonnet talks about the youth and rage.  This also talks about trajectory of the sun. Shakespeare also expresses loyalty, admiration and love.  Shakespeare also says that as the sun rises, it receives a lot of attention and glory, and as it sets, the stars and the moon take it away.
