In 2010, Greg Fleniken once again found himself in Beaumont, Texas on a work trip.  It’s a place he’s been many times.  He has a routine and never deviates from it.  Same hotel. Same room. Same candy bar from the vending machine. Which is why it was so strange when he never showed up at the office.  Instead, Greg was found dead, alone, inside a locked hotel room from a suspicious wound to his groin.  Yeah, this one starts weird and gets even weirder. Hey Slaycaters, following Bad Bunny’s sensational Super Bowl performance, comes another successful performance, on a far smaller scale — followed by the unbearable tragedy that Slaycation is known for.  Reggaetón artist Bayron Sanchez, known professionally as B-King, was fast on his way to global superstardom. He had the look, the voice, the drive & the determination to make it to the top.  Already a hit in his home country of Colombia, B-King embarked on his first international tour — first stop, Mexico.  But it wasn’t long after his triumphant first show that B-King and his DJ, Jorge Luis Herrera (known as ‘Regio Clown’) ran into some deadly trouble.  No es bueno. Hey Slaycaters, meet Lela and Raymond Howard, a sweet elderly couple from Salado, Texas who, against the wishes of concerned family members, decide to drive themselves to a nearby festival, 15 miles away. They never made it — in part because Lela was driving in the complete opposite direction. n fact, a cop pulled them over for driving with their headlights off in Arkansas, about 500 miles away. Meanwhile, back home panicked friends and family were desperately searching for the missing couple. Did they deliberately go on the run? Was Lela’s Alzheimer’s to blame? Were they trying to escape a life of doctors appointments, medications, aches & pains? Hey Slaycaters, get ready for another dose of WTF? — this time courtesy of the Indonesian authorities handling (or rather mishandling) of a mysterious death at a luxury villa in Bali.   When 23-year old, Australian Byron Haddow was found floating face down in a plunge pool after a night out with friends — you’d think there would be a major investigation involving the police; including witness statements; cordoning off the crime scene and stripping everything down for evidence… Right?   Nope, that’s not what happened… at all.  However, the Indonesian Coroner’s Office did hold onto Byron’s body for weeks before sending it back — minus the heart. Oof… This case. Too soon. Too sad. Too much WTF…  And yet, here we are. There truly is no way to sugarcoat what happened to 9-year old Melina Frattolin, who was visiting her father, Luciano, the owner of a supposedly successful coffee business.   But like most things in this case — there’s the truth and there’s the story that Luciano tells.  And that story includes a tale of a white van pulling up to where Luciano and Melina were hanging out by the side of the road — and several kidnappers jumping out and taking the young girl. Thus begins a tale of abduction, Amber Alerts, and a horrific discovery in a nearby wooded pond area. Hey Slaycaters, we’re back with another shocking, mysterious death in Mexico — this time, beloved actress Carol Wayne, most known for playing the ‘Matinee Lady’ in sketches with Johnny Carson. OK Slaycaters, strap in for another case of paradise lost.  In May of 2000, New York-based travel writers Claudia Kirschhoch and Tania Grossinger found themselves stranded in Negril, Jamaica when their business trip to Havana Cuba was suddenly canceled. However, 29-year old Claudia had just landed her dream job writing for Frommer’s Travel Guides and decided to make the most of her situation.   While Tania booked a flight home — Claudia stayed and played, including going on a date with a bartender at the resort she was staying in. Hey Slaycaters, here we go again…  Another case that will have you scratching your heads and saying, “WTF???” On July 8th, 2014, Lars Mittank entered the airport in Varna, Bulgaria.   It had already been an interesting vacation on the coast of the Black Sea that included a fight with locals in which Lars had sustained injuries preventing him from flying home with his pals.   Now medically cleared to fly, Lars arrived at the Varna Airport — only to be seen suddenly running out of the airport doctor’s office headed straight for…our show.
