    Injuries continue to hamper the Amajita camp ahead of the FIFA U20 World Cup in Poland next month. The South African national U20 men’s team departs for Saudi Arabia tonight where they will play two international friendly matches against the U19 champions of Asia next week before departing for Poland to continue with their training camp. The team is already without vice-captain Nkosingiphile “Mshini” Ngcobo who is out on a long term injury and there’s also doubts about French based striker Lyle Foster according to head coach Thabo Senong. Amajita wrapped up their preparations at home today when they beat University of Johannesburg U21 team which plays in the Johannesburg SAB Regional League team 1-0. They will play two matches against Saudi Arabia and it’s preparation matches that make Senong excited. Including Foster, Senong has called up a squad of 26 players with some overseas based players to join the camp in Saudi Arabia and Poland respectively. The final 21-man squad is expected to be announced on the 13th of the next month with the tournament kicking off on the 23rd of next month until the 16th of June. Senong who has made history by qualifying for the U20 World Cup back to back and becoming the first South African coach to achieve that feat, now has to focus on preparing for their opening game against Argentina on the 25th of next month in Tychy. After bowing out in the group stages at the 2017 World Cup in South Korea, what are the targets for Senong and his team.

    Jerome Damon gets a plum FIFA job

    Former World Cup referee Jerome Damon has been appointed FIFA’s referee development officer for Africa. His job will be to support football associations who require help with their refereeing structures, getting the right places all over Africa and also training. Damon, who is also a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) training guru for Africa, is excited.The 47-year old Cape Town-born referee quit his job as a teacher to accept the appointment. He recently completed a VAR course in Morocco and will be conducting another one soon. He was twice named referee of the year in the country. Damon has officiated at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in SA. SA referees have been under flak in recent times. Only Zakhele Siwela went to the World Cup in Russia last year as an assistant referee. Damon says our referees are not bad.

    Supersport United Coach KaitanoTembo says they still have an outside chance to win the ABSA Premiership title. Matsatsantsa beat their arch-rivals Mamelodi Sundowns 2-0 on Wednesday to boost their title ambitions. They are currently fourth on the log with 43 points from 26 matches. Supersport win against Sundowns has blown the title race wide open with many teams still in with a chance to win the league. Matsatsantsa have won the PSL title three times between 2008 and 2010. Tembo says they want to finish as high as possible. Supersport young Zambian striker Ghampani Lungu scored the second goal against Sundowns to seal the victory. He was signed from Zambian team Power Dynamos at the beginning of the season. He was injured throughout the season, and Tembo says he is a good player.Matsatsantsa have also played with many young players this season such as Kamohelo Mahlatsi, Jamie Webber, Lungu, Sipho Mbule, Aubrey Modiba and Teboho Mokoena. Tembo says they are the future generation of the team. Tembo was also humbled with the kind remarks he got from Sundowns president Patrice Motsepe after the match on Wednesday. Motsepe congratulated him for the victory against his team.

The Brazilians will tackle relegation threatened Baroka in a crucial league match for both teams at the old Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane tomorrow afternoon. Sundowns will be looking to close a gap on Orlando Pirates at the top, while Braoka will be looking to escape from relegation zone. Sundowns are still reeling from a 2-0 defeat against Supersport United on Wednesday night. They are currently third on the log with 44 points. They are sitting in third position, six points behind leaders Pirates with two matches in hand. Mosimane says they have to take advantage of games in hand. Meanwhile, the Sundowns’ Coach was humbled by Free State Stars Coach Nikola Kavazovic remarks that he is capable of winning the league together with his Orlando Pirates counterpart, Milutin “Micho” Srejodevic. Mosimane says it also feels good to be recognised internationally. Pirates are the overwhelming favourites to win the league with 50 points, six points clear of second placed Bidvest Wits and Sundowns on 44 points. Mosimane believes that they can win the league.
