Epsiode 232 - Teaching The Aggressive Hitter - Ed Marcum

This weeks video is hosted by Coach Ed Marcum and he is teaching about the Aggressive Hitters mindset. Every fastpitch softball coach teaches hitting a little different. Main thing for softball players and any athlete is to stay relaxed. The first thing in a swing is to drive the front elbow forward and make sure to stay inside the ball. The power comes from the hips; drive the back leg forward, knee to knee. Make sure that your fastpitch softball hitters stay in. Very important that the head does not go up and down. Coach Ed Marcum goes into more detail about the basics of hitting. Repetition is extremely important. Confidence is the key of an aggressive hitter. Hitting is so mental and to do that the girls have to be confident in what they have done. They have to be a competitor. Athletes cannot be afraid to fail, they need to learn to compete and be disciplined. Know the umpire's strike zone. To be a good hitter you need to put in as much practice time as a pitcher puts in. Epsiode 231 - Proper Footwork For Catchers - Courtney Scott

Produced by http://Fastpitch.TV - This week Courtney Scott talks about proper footwork for catchers. Courtney Scott is the assistant softball coach at the University of Louisville. She talks about the firm base and how important it is to stay low.  Catchers need to be comfortable. Coach Scott goes through the proper footwork to do a throw down to second.  She talks about the pop and the transition is at the ear. The most important is so that the catchers are comfortable.  One of the catchers that Coach Scott works with does a pivot throw.  An issue she has is that she gets too wide of a base. Catchers that are not strong there is a step through motion that could work for them. There is also a throw from your knees. With a runner going to third make sure that you are clearing the batter by stepping behind or around the batter.  Always a good idea to lead with your back foot, decreases the amount of steps that are needed. She also talks about proper footwork to pick up a bunt as well as blocking mechanics. Episode 230 - The Importance Of The Drop Ball - Courtney Scott

Produced by http://Fastpitch.TV - This week Courtney Scott talks about the importance of the drop ball. Courtney Scott is the assistant softball coach at the University of Louisville. She talks about the importance of the drop ball for the fastpitch pitcher. The advantage of a good drop ball is that it keeps the ball in the park in an offensive game.  Allows the runners to only advance base to base.  There are four ways to throw it. The peel drop, is the hardest to buy into but one of the most effective.  You want to grab it on the "C" and put as many fingertips on the seam and as close together as you can.  The reason for the "C" is to get on the four seams.  It creates a strong spin. Don't see a ton of break with this pitch, it is working on its own, but it is very easy on the body and be disciplined with. The next drop ball is the rolling peel. It is held the exact same way as the peel drop.  You come through with a relaxed wrist and snap down. The roll over is on the "U" versus on the "C". On the right side of the "U" and using pressure points on your fingers. The last drop is the pull back. holding it the same as the peel drop.  The difference is that you release it at your back hip.  Full force is better to get through your body and all the way through to your catcher. Episode 229 - Diane Ninemire Interview

Produced by http://Fastpitch.TV - This week interview Coach Ninemire from Cal State.. This is an interview with Coach Diane Ninemire the head coach for the Cal Golden Bears.  She graduated from University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1980.  She played basketball and softball while in college.  She continued her education at Texas Women's University in Denton, Texas. Coach Ninemire has wanted to be a coach since 4th grade.  She played travel softball starting at age 10.  She believes that youth should play many sports. She sees a lot of injuries of softball players that have over worked specific joints and muscles coming from playing softball all the time. She thinks they would see less injuries because you are using differnet joints and muscles, if softball/all athletes would play more than one sport. Coach Ninemeire has many softball accomplishments including 1,000 wins and winning the 2002 Women's College World Series.  She says that team had a mission and a purpose. She believes that the will to win is more important than talent on the field. The moment that she will remember for the rest of her life will be during that WCWS top of the 7th against Arizona the score was tied 0-0. They had lead that inning off with a walk.  Then with 2 outs proceeded to score 6 runs, to win the game. Coach Ninemire believes that young players really have to find their true passion, work hard and be dedicated.  Do your best to reach your goals. With all of the challenges that has encouraged us, athletes, to persevere through all of the trials that the game of softball has thrown has brought us makes us stronger. Dot then narrates her trials and struggles with hoping to try out for the olympics and using the gifts that God has given her to succeed as an amazing fastpitch softball player. You may want to start with part 1 of this 4 part series. http://SoftballJunk.com is a great resource for all your favorite fastpitch softball bats! Jennie begins This part of her fast pitch softball offense clinic with describing how softball coaches can help players understand all of the information and pointers that their many coaches have given them. As a softball coach you must be your players constant by filtering all of their information down to what is right for your fastpitch softball player. She also suggests to relate your softball offensive coaching to what your players know. Coaches must bridge the gap with their players so that the players can better understand the information they must retain on a level that they can understand.       Sponsored by SoftballJunk.com Sign up for our newsletter at http://Fastpitch.TV/newsletter LINKS OF INTEREST http://Fastpitch.TV/Twitter http://Fastpitch.TV/Pinterest http://Fastpitch.TV/Facebook http://Fastpitch.TV/Instagram . http://Fastpitch.TV/GooglePlus . http://Fastpitch.TV/YouTube This content is provided with a Creative Commons Share-Alike License. Episode 218 - Hitting Clinic Part 3 - Jennie Dalton Hill

This week we continue a series of fastpitch softball  hitting clinics by Jennie Dalton Hill. This is part 3. Make sure to check out part 1 and part 2 if you haven"t already! http://SoftballJunk.com  has great deals of the right fastpitch softball bat just for you! Women's U.S.A. baseball coach Jennie Dalton Hill continues answering fast pitch softball coaches' questions on how to improve their players offense. One particular fastpitch softball coach mentions that a few of his players are becoming overly aggressive in rotating their hips and losing their balance to run to first base. Jennie's reply is again to help the player feel what they are doing wrong. If that player can't feel it then they can't fix it. Jennie then suggest to have your softball player check themselves if they have over rotated by jumping from the place that they have finished their swing. To find a way that the player can work on the problem without their  softball coach always being present and still improve is the best solution so that they can be working on their swing at all times. Jennie is also asked by one of the softball coaches about how to improve timing. For timing, she explains that timing in fastpitch softball is also something to be developed by manipulating your distance to improve timing. Jennie finishes with explaining several other drills that some coaches are having trouble seeing results in. She explains that these drills may seem, and are simple, but they are not easy. Just stay motivated with your softball team!       This week we start a new series of fastpitch softball hitting clinics by Jennie Dalton Hill. This is part 2. Make sure to check out part 1 if you haven't already. http://SoftbalJunk.com has the perfect fastpitch bat for you! Jennie Dalton Hill continues her fastpitch softball offense clinic by answering questions from softball caches on how to help the players on their teams. Jennie has learned through her experience that fastpitch softball coaches generally make the mistake of focusing on one mechanical flaw in a players swing, but that may not be the case for the entire softball team. If a coach is having trouble with finding a solution for a player always begin with a players base and foot work then work their way up. Many coaches have trouble with fixing bad habits with some players in over rotating their hips and ask how to fix it. Jennie explains that fixing a problem like this will be different for each player. One player may learn one way, but others may need a different approach. Jennie continues on explaining the process of switching hitters to be slap hitters, or changing their swing dramatically. Coaches must not assume an automatic change. Certain skills in softball players and other athletes are to be developed, not expected. Episode 216 - Hitting Clinic Part 1 - Jennie Dalton Hill

This week we start a new series of fastpitch softball  hitting clinics by Jennie Dalton Hill. This is part 1. http://SoftballJunk.com has great deals on amazing fastpitch softball bats just for you! Jennie Dalton Hill begins mentioning some of her success as an All-American Softball player at the University of Arizona and was National player of the year in 1996, but chose to take a different route after college softball and chose to play baseball playing on the Colorado Silver Bullets. She resigned from the team after one year and was married and had three children. Only one year ago she decided to try out for the U.S.A Women's baseball team and now coaches them and is on the board of directors. She continues explaining how important it is to have a purposeful off-season softball offense. Although off-season offense hitting can be boring, Jennie pushes the urgency to keep your fastpitch softball players motivated. The off-season is a time for coaching and learning about how to improve. Jennie then explains how she would approach a softball offense lesson as a teacher. The first thing to do is to make a goal whether it be a team goal or a individual goal for each of your softball players. That coach needs to understand their softball player and his/her weaknesses and coach them on how to improve each and every time they step up to the plate. Each player is different and will require different forms of advice in how to chance their swing. To have the player understand their own flaws and how to correct them with proper mechanics is what will help a softball player most. Jennie states that the purpose of the off-season is to help teach, instruct, and help kids understand themselves. If they can't understand themselves then they can't help the team. The biggest point Jennie is wanting to make is that the players must have an understanding of themselves as softball players and their swing and how it is supposed to look so that they can help you help themselves. You can purchase bats at http://SoftballJunk.com Brock started his career by coaching at Baylor in 1979.  He now has almost 1000 wins and is still coaching today at Sam Houston State. He has coached softball at many different schools and has been successful at them all. He has won three national championships at A&M and came really close multiple times. Brock used to play fastpitch softball himself before it became a more of a girls sport and without playing fastpitch when he was younger, he would have never became a college softball coach. He has brought up multiple softball programs to make them more successful teams as a whole. Brock's biggest hint to other coaches is to learn the different strategies to pitching so that you can help the pitchers because the more a coach knows about pitching the more of an edge a coach would have to make a winning team. Brock's most memorable moment was his 1987 national championship. In his words it was a very excited and successful team and he was very proud of that team and how talented they were.       Produced by http://Fastpitch.TV - In Jessica Mendoza's slapping clinic part four, Jessica takes questions from the audience. You can purchase the same softball bat at http://SoftballJunk.com. The first question Mendoza addresses is that you should teach a beginner softball player to hit first then teach how to slapping because it is harder to teach hitting away after they have been taught slapping. The next question was if Mendoza had to work out side of their softball team and they have to work on their own. She says that she did have to work outside and to work one-on-one to get the small details worked out. She also addresses that when the first foot hits down is the same time she makes contact with the softball. And that she never starts in the back of the box but she stays in the same spot in the box no matter if she is hitting away or slapping. Episode 202 - Slapping Clinic Part 3 - Jessica Mendoza

Produced by http://Fastpitch.TV - In Jessica Mendoza's slapping clinic part three she talks about where to place the slap and to hit away well from the left side. You can purchase the same softball bat at http://SoftballJunk.com. Mendoza talks about where a good spot to place a good slap and what positions are the toughest to play the slap well. She mentions that second base is a really tough spot to play the slap well because they have the hardest time reading and reacting to the slapper. She says to almost pick on the second base and even the pitcher sometimes because they have the hardest time reacting to the softball in play and aren't always expecting it. Mendoza also talks about power hitting from the left side and the different strategies that some slappers use to hit away with power. She talks about how some slappers even so a slight walk through to hit the softball or even a slide though to hit it hard. Some slappers don't feel comfortable hitting away but when some still walk through or slide through, it makes the slapper feel more comfortable and they can learn how to hit the ball hard without getting to far out of their comfort zone on the left side of the box. Mendoza also talks about working against your own defense because if you can find the weaknesses in your own defense you can find the weaknesses in the team you're playing. It teaches you how to play the spots that are open and to hit the softball in a weak spot of the team. The more that a slapper practices the more likely you can place a good slap in a game. Episode 201 - Softball Slapping Clinic Part 2 - Jessica Mendoza

Produced by http://Fastpitch.TV - In Jessica Mendoza slapping clinic part two she talks about how to power slap more than soft slapping. You can purchase the same softball bat she is using at http://SoftballJunk.com. To power slap its more about hitting the center of the bat and hitting right on the sweet spot because the softball is likely to go far. She talks about a more simplistic slap where she just wants to make sure the contact is solid and not so much of the full swing. When slapping if you use the explosion of your legs and good solid contact the ball will go far. Depending on what type of slap that you are wanting to do it depends on where you should place the softball on what part of the bat. She also talks about where you should place the hit depending on what the defense looks like. Depending on how strong the infield looks depends on where you should place the slap and what type of slap you work with. Even some uncommon placements can work with certain teams and certain defensive players. Basically just know the defense and work off of it. It is good to work the short game on some defenses. A split grip is a good choice for short game and certain situations in the game. Episode 200 - Slapping Clinic Part 1 - Jessica Mendoza

Produced by http://Fastpitch.TV - In part one of Jessica Mendoza's slapping clinic she talks about how to work your feet. You can purchase the bat she is using at http://SoftballJunk.com. Mendoza talks about how to work your feet and to have an explosive first step to become a successful softball slapper. She says to have an explosive first step so you can adjust to the pitcher so you're not too early or too late. She also says that the first step needs to be toward the pitcher and not toward first base because you do not want the slapper to rush getting to first base. Mendoza also talks about how to position your hands on the bat so that it is not too noticeable as to what you are doing to the defense. She says not to choke up to try and hit a soft slap but actually to just aim the softball to hit the end of the bat because when the softball hit the end of the bat verses choking up it is not noticeable to the defense and it still comes off as softly. She says to practice just soft slapping and hitting the softball off the end of the bat to be more accurate at aiming for that little spot to hit with. Episode 199 - Pitching Clinic Part 4 - Bill Hillhouse

Produced by http://Fastpitch.TV - In part four of Bill Hillhouse's pitching clinic he talks about the basics of pitching and his theories and methods to pitching. You can buy softball bats at http://SoftballJunk.com. Hillhouse talks about how to fix the crow hop while pitching. He saying that it is a problem with the hands and not the feet and if the hands were moving faster the feet wouldn't have time to replant and the crow hop would be eliminated. He says to work with a lighter ball to get the arm to move faster so that the feet wouldn't have time to even get off the ground to begin with. He also addresses the weighted softball usage. Hillhouse says that they are not as bad as some people portray them to be and the only thing that he doesn't like about them is that after a few pitches the ball starts to get heavier in the hand the pitcher starts to rely on muscles and not actually pitching correctly. He says they are good for working spins to make the fingers stronger so that spin on the pitch is better and they are good for his sideways "k" drill. He also talks about the different types of drags that some pitchers use and that he doesn't recommend the figure four drag or the "s" drag because it does not keep the momentum dragging but actually directs the momentum in different directions other than straight to the catcher.
