THE VIDEO RECAP: WHAT IF ANDY WARHOL WAS LATIN?

I had to endure the dipping, dodging and cursing normally associated with rush hour down town traffic, never mind the difficult parking that I barely fit in, all that frustration simply vanished as soon as I made it to SOA’s latest offering, Andres Warhol at the hip Chelsea Bistro, It’s a Dominican Thing. The venue was packed and the event’s participants overflowed onto 19th street itself. Before I even discuss art, kudos are definitely in order for the excellent food and the ever so smooth Sangria that the courteous folks at this much talked about eatery kept bringing out to the delight of the gathered throngs. M. Tony Peralta’s installation consisted of several multi-hued screen prints of Goya Beans can that was a cool and subtlety informative derivative of Andy Warhol’s famous Campbell’s soup piece. The Peralta Project conceived Andres Warhol was a huge hit and according to SOA’ founder, Leo Vasquez, several prints were sold. A Goya beans can as a metaphor for an increasingly multi-cultural and diverse America, I will never look at a can of Goya beans the same way again. Luckily for those that missed the initial event, Mr. Peralta’s work will bless the space for another 30 days. One of The Sound of Art’s greatest strengths is that you never know what they will come up with next. The pulse of accessible art can be felt at every event, so make it a point to be at the next one. ANDRES WARHOL: WHAT IF ANDY WARHOL WAS LATIN?

Andres Warhol Part 1 (What if Andy Warhol was Latin?) Ft. The Peralta Project June 20th - 5:30 to 8:00 PM It’s a Dominican Thing 144 West 19th Street (btw 6th-7th Ave) New York, NY The Sound of Art poses the question, what if Andy Warhol was Latin with their latest offering Andres Warhol conceived by The Peralta Project. This thought provoking and groundbreaking event will take place on June 20th at the chic Chelsea eatery; It’s a Dominican thing. Andres Warhol is a revolutionary take on the work of the acclaimed Pop Artist Andy Warhol. Just as Warhol used popular images to define and visualize the American ethos of the 20th Century, The Peralta Project uses similar methods to define Americana in the 21st. M. Tony Peralta of The Peralta Project has been featured in several SOA events and is an integral and long time member of the Sound of Art. Mr. Peralta envisioned Andres Warhol as a culturally critical inquiry into the symbols and attributes of the new America. It’s a Dominican Thing, the restaurant that The New York Times refers to as an “enticing education” on Dominican cuisine and culture, once again plays host to the festivities. Since this Dominican bistro opened its door in 2004, it has been wowing patrons with its inspired and thoroughly authentic approach to Dominican cooking. Andres Warhol is another one of SOA’s pioneering events that further cements its reputation as “the future of accessible art”. The Sound of Art continues to deliver one-of-a–kind innovative content that expands and enriches the popular definition of what is considered art. M. Tony Peralta’s work will be on sale and on display at this distinguished hot spot for 30 days after the initial event. Get involved!!! RSVP: [email protected]
