Sports Gays Unite

RaLene and Emily love sports. Like, almost as much as they love skateboarding to thrift stores, their two cats, and carabiners. But sometimes it can be hard to find other queer people who want to toss around the ol' pigskin. But can you blame them? Mainstream sports are constantly being pigeonholed into heteronormative boxes, and women and queer people don't always have an obvious place of belonging. That's what RaLene and Emily are here to change. Whether you're trans, lesbian, gay, or just bored of status quo sports coverage...welcome home. It's time to unite.

    Orange Carpet Crumb Detectives

It's been a rough uncuffing season for the lesbian community, and Emily and RaLene have taken it pretty hard (consider this group therapy for all those grieving the loss of Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe's relationship). But more importantly, it's also the one-year anniversary of Sports Gays Unite! The first ever episode was all about the WNBA Draft and the orange carpet fits, so Emily and RaLene throw it back and play some fashion-oriented games. They also talk about their first-ever IRL women's hockey game, exciting personal news, and the bright rays of gay love that shine through the clouds of breakup szn. Come for the drama, stay for the laughs.  To purchase a copy of Issue 2: Winter Games featuring Emily's personal essay, use this link. All proceeds go to Snatch Magazine, created by Sophia Mitropoulos. Follow us on IG @sportsgaysunite to see photos from today's episode. Find us on TikTok @sportsgaysunitepod.

    Women Carrying the Pucking Team

Emily and RaLene are back for Season 2 in a new city watching new sports, but are still very gay. They breakdown the Olympics, analyze the great lesbian engagement of Team USA hockey captain Hilary Knight, discuss their new obsession with women's hockey, and ride the roller coaster of an Unrivaled's championship night. The Rainbow Road We All Walk

What, you've never heard of Queerio Kart? That's because we just invented it. Think Beerio Kart but with gay people playing it. The goal is to finish your drink before the end of the race (or in our case, Grand Prix), and you can't drink and drive — duh. We make it sporty by asking each other existential questions about the WNBA while trying not to drive off Rainbow Road! Check out our IG and TikTok and email us any topics you want us to talk about!

    Are Sports Just Lesbian Pinterest?

It's been a busy, sports-filled few weeks for RaLene and Emily! Between the start of the WNBA season and a trip to Southern California, they've been to lots of stadiums to cheer on their teams — and realized they have both a lot and little in common with their fellow fans. The duo talks about some of the pros and cons of the average lesbian fan experience. Give us some love on our socials, and repost us to tell your friends about the pod! The Mascots We Met Along the Way — Part 1

When last week's episode took an interesting segue into the wild world of mascots, Emily and RaLene were left with more questions than answers — why is everyone obsessed with Ellie the Elephant? What makes Freddy Fever so...diabolical? And what happens to mascots when their franchises bite the dust? Paired with the hankering for bracketology the two have had since March, and a brilliant idea was born: Mascot Madness, Hunger Games-style.That's right. We made a bracket pitting the WNBA's mascots against each other. Today, Emily and RaLene go through the play-in tournament and Round 1 to see which mascots are moving on to the next level of competition. Stay tuned for Part 2 next week!Check out the visual guide for this episode (highly recommended for this one) and fill out a bracket of your own for a chance to win a prize. Read this article by Kiri Oler that we got some inspiration from and for informed takes on mascot popularity.
