    Together - Ep 44: Codependency

Last year, a unique body horror movie made a pretty big splash in the horror community. This week, we finally sit down and watch TOGETHER Ironically, we watched it separately.  We'll talk about codependency, body horror, the emotional journey of a horror movie and how this one almost subverts the standard. We'll also talk about that time we were drunk and being catty just to be catty and accidentally were jerks to a musician Glenn really loves. Smooth. Real smooth.

We'll dive into the old money world of obscene opulence, demonic pacts, and incompetence in this twisted take on the classic childhood game. Romance is Dead Valentine's day is almost here and love is in the air! Or is that blood? Either way, hearts are involved and they’re gonna break when we sit down to chat about HEART EYES We set out to deconstruct this deconstruction of romantic comedies and horror movies alike as we ask, “how does Heart Eyes stack up as a slasher? How does it work as a comedy?” We compare it to other horror comedies and discuss what makes for a good horror comedy and good satire. We discuss acting approaches and whether the movie contributes to the stigmatization of kink in pop culture.  We talk about the use of meta-contextualization in modern horror and satire and how it applies to Heart Eyes.  Along the way we talk about new Rob Zombie music, YouTube comments, Jason Statham, The Fast and the Furious, Dropout, the connections between Heart Eyes and Evil Dead Rise, Vampires Kiss, Nicolas Cage and Scream. The Blackcoat's Daughter - Streaming Screams Episode 36: Forever Alone

Forever Alone Osgood Perkins has been killing it lately, so we thought we'd go back and revisit his first film: THE BLACKCOAT'S DAUGHTER A stark, bleak, and sometimes challenging movie that Jess had been harassing Glenn to watch for years, so you KNOW we had stuff to say about it. Also, we take a slightly different approach to our podcast format.  And we get pretty wild along the way. Jess informs us what percentage of sheep are gay. We live up to the stereotype of Americans and geographical knowledge. Glenn gets unreasonably angry at the Stranger Things finale. We actually get into politics and the current situation in the US, and we compare and contrast Osgood Perkins with David Lynch. All of this with a new format focusing much more on how we feel about a film and dialing back what happens in the film. All on this wild episode of STREAMING SCREAMS!

    BONUS: Discussion on new music

Here's a bonus clip of Glenn and Jess discussing music, particularly new music. This was cut from our discussion of The Signal.  We thought it was a fun clip, but ran longer than our usual diversions and didn't fit the rest of the episode, but it's still a fun chat and we thought you should have the option to hear it!

Thanksgiving - Streaming Screams Episode 34: Where Turkeys Dare

Where Turkeys Dare In 2007, one of the greatest fake movie trailers ever hit the big screen as part of the Grindhouse double feature. In 2023, Eli Roth finally made good on his promise to make the movie to go along with the trailer, and so with fall in full swing, we sit down for: THANKSGIVING On this day we give thanks for horror and tackle the tough questions: Does the film live up to the promise of the original trailer? What happens when a local store owner’s greed gets people killed? Do you prefer light meat or dark meat? Along the way we’ll discuss righteous anger, ghosting your friends, the differences between the original grindhouse trailer and we’ll even start the programming off doing what everyone hates doing at Thanksgiving, but ends up doing anyway, talking politics. Please note, we’ll be taking December off for the Holidays, so this will be our final episode of the year. We’ll be back in January with fresh horrors! We hope you have some bloody good holidays!

Halloween III: Season of the Witch - Spooky Season Super Scary Screamtacular pt 2: STOP IT!

It has gathered a significant cult following, yet still remains divisive to this day. Glenn watched the version that we all know and love, while Jess watched the extended version involving scenes added years later.  Along the way, we’ll touch on some important subjects like why teens bang in their parents bed (and maybe why they shouldn’t), whether artists can be trusted to tell you the meaning of their own art, whether you can be a goody two-shoes and still smoke weed, and what the heck is a slasher anyway? As we say goodbye to spooky season and return to our monthly schedule, we want to thank you for joining us for our first Halloween event.
