The silence of the salt-crusted flats was shattered when the sky fractured, bringing down towering, metallic shadows that loomed over the mesa. These visitors didn't arrive for the land or the silver; they came for the "grit"- the hardened spectral residue of the pioneers who weathered this desolate frontier. In the heart of Deadman’s Wash, the invaders began their work, distilling the echoes of the desert into a cold, celestial frequency and turning the spirits of the West into a harvested signal. Descent on Deadman’s Wash is a collaborative transmission from Kri Samadhi and Mombi Yuleman, where the organic textures of the Old West are systematically dismantled by alien geometry. “Tek,” the second release from Aought (known to the psychedelic trance world as Kri Samadhi), transports you back in time to 1992. But not our timeline’s 1992 - a darker, more apocalyptic 1992, in which ravers invented halftime and techstep sounds early to cope with societal collapse and constant surveillance. Drawing from that year’s breakbeat hardcore and nascent sampler-based jungle, Aought invokes “Hardcore Junglism” by Manix, “Suicide” by Hannibal Lecter, and tracks by Neuromancer, Fresh Trax, and Nick Power & DJ KU. “The Rush” is a clear ode to darkside rave music, getting as close as Aought gets to an outright dancefloor heater; “Tek Nek” is a hard-driving slice of anxious dancefloor energy, where snarling rave hoovers twist amid dark ambience and skittering beats. Opening tune “Borg” uses dry & clicky percussive sounds to contrast with the toxic sludge of its bass sounds. The “Tek” EP embraces paranoia and reinvents 1992 in a way you’ve never heard.
