    A True Friend?: Exploring the Ethicality of AI Companions

    In this episode of Tapping In, we explore the ethics of Al Companionship. Recently, people have been using AI platforms to create their own friend. They customize their character's personality, looks, attitude, and mannerisms to generate their own "perfect person." In our discussion, we talk about how AI companions can serve as a way to acquire social advice about situations or to have someone to talk to 24/7. However, we also highlight how these companions are sycophantic, meaning they are designed to please the user.

    Fake Voices, Real Consequences: AI in Politics

    In this episode, we explore how artificial intelligence is increasingly being used in politics and what that means for voters. We discuss how AI-generated videos, voices, and images can spread misinformation about political candidates and influence public opinion, often without people realizing it. We also look at the role of disclaimers, the laws some states have created to regulate AI-generated political content, and the ethical concerns that come with this technology. Using the ethical framework of consequentialism, we reflect on whether it is ever acceptable to generate AI content about politicians and why values like honesty, fairness, integrity, and trust are important in the digital age.Hosts: Clara B.
