I picked up a hobby a few years ago recording music in my low budget studio in my basement. I enjoy making covers of my favorite songs and trying to get them to sound as close to the original as I can. I joined Sound Cloud to get feedback (hopefully positive), from fellow musicians and recording enthusiasts. Tell me what you think.

Heavy ( Collective Soul Cover)
This song has one of the best riffs in rock and roll. It was a blast to learn. Hope you all like it.
-
27
She Talks to Angels ( Black Crowes Cover)
I always wanted to try this song. The open E tuning on the accoustic guitar was a blast to play with.
-

Down On Me ( Jackyl Cover)
I heard this on the radio the other day and had to try it. It was a fun song to do.
-
25
Rock and Roll Singer (AC/DC Cover)
Classic OLD AC/DC. This one brings back memories. Enjoy.

2112 Overture/ Temples of Syrinx (Rush Cover)
I havent played this one since the high school talent show 40 years ago. I tracked the drums for this 2 or 3 years ago and decided to shelf the project as it seemed to difficult for me to finish. I was inspired to finish it after reading a comment posted on FaceBook from a school mate who recalled our band playing this in a talent show. Thank you Steve Groff for the inspiration.

Radar Love ( Golden Earring Cover)
This is a cover of a one hit wonder. It motivated me to buy a glass guitar slide and learn how to use it. Very fun project.
-
22
Rock and Roll Band (Boston Cover)
One of my favorite Boston tunes. Very fun to play. Vocals were a challange as I got a cold the day I was recording the vocal tracks. Getting a good Boston guitar tone wasnt easy either. Until I contacted my go to guitar tone guru Singtall. He banged out a guitar patch and sent it to me after only an hour in his studio. Thanks Singtall!

Highway Star (Deep Purple Cover)
A Killer Deep Purple Classic cover.

Carry On Wayward Son (Kansas Cover)
Been wanting to cover this for a long time and finally decided to go for it. All electric guitars and bass guitars were run through my Eleven Rack Processor. The acoustic guitars were done with a live mic track as well a track running through my Eleven Rack. Hammond organ and piano were stock Virtual Instruments in Protools. The vocals ( all 7 voices) were recorded with my new Mic. A Shure SM7B into a Presonus Eureka Pre amp/ compressor and it was worth every penny.

Thank You (Led Zepplin Cover)Tesla version
The words to this song move me. These lyrics are what I would say my wife of 33 years, if I only had a way with words. I recorded this song for her Birthday. Happy Birthday!

Night Train (Guns and Roses Cover)
This is second atempt at this song. I thought the mix was a little off so I went back to the drawing board. I turned down the lead vocal and lead guitar and am much happier with the mix.

17
Shine (Collective Soul Cover)
This is my take on a classic 90s song. I made the guitars a bit heavier than the original. Because Drop D tuning is meant to be heavy!
-
16
Don't Stop Believin' (Journey Cover)
Here is a classic Journey tune that every age group knows. I got my big brother Dan to sit in and play the bass guitar on this one. It was a fun afternoon. Enjoy.
-
15
Where Eagles Dare (Iron Maiden cover)
One of my all time Iron Maiden tunes. Enjoy.
-

If You Want Blood (You've got it) (AC/DC Cover)
Here is a cover of a long time favorite. I thought this would be any easy one to cover, but i was mistaken. The guitars took a long time to get that AC/DC sound that i needed. And the vocals where a challenge. I will argue with anyone that doesn't think Bon Scott could sing. Enjoy!

Say Hello 2 Heaven (Temple Of The Dog Cover)
One of my favorites from Chris Cornell. I wanted to try to create some cool clean but gritty patches for my Eleven Rack Amp modeler. This was a good song to try to emulate as it has a clean guitar with a little bite in the left channel and a grittier guitar sound in the right channel. I hope I did both guitar tracks justice. My only mistake was having to try and sing as good as Chris Cornell. What can I say.

Down In a Hole (Alice in Chains cover)
Here is a long time Alice in Chains favorite. I have been wanting to record with my acoustic guitar and finally found a song that I could use it on.(Even though it is only in the intro). I also wanted to try and get that " wall of sound" driven guitars as well. It required 4 separate guitar tracks. 2 in the Left channel and 2 in the right. It also had challenging vocal tracks that needed to be in perfect harmony. 9 vocal tracks in all. (My pitch correction software is my new best friend). Hope you like it.

Fall to Pieces (Velvet Revolver Cover)
This is a cover of an all time favorite Velvet Revolver tune. I have been working on it for a few months now and finally got it finished. Ironically 4 days after the passing of the singer for Velvet Revolver, Scott Weiland. All guitar and Bass guitar tracks were recorded with my newest toy. My Eleven Rack with an EPSi Cabinet Impulse Response pedal. Enjoy.

Barracuda (Heart Cover)
This is a cover of an all time Heart favorite. My Brother Jim and I did a long distance collaboration on this one. I recorded the drums, bass guitar, left channel rhythm guitar, vocals and special effects at my home studio. Then Jim recorded the right channel rhythm guitar and lead guitar two hours away at his home and emailed me his tracks. I then added them to the mix and turned out a cover of this classic gem. Hope everyone likes it.

Starlight (Slash / Myles Kennedy Cover)
I heard this song on Pandora and had to learn it. Guitar left channel I used my ESP LTD EC 1000. Right channel and solos I used my Gibson Les Paul.I ran my guitars through a BR800 processor. For Bass Guitar I used my Ibanez cheapo Bass Guitar run through an Ampeg SVP Pro preamp then through my BR 800 Processor. Drums were processed using EZ Drummer 2 software. Song was mixed using ProTools.

Sick As A Dog- (Aerosmith Cover)
Here is a cover of my favorite Aerosmith tune. I collaborated with my Brother Jim on this one. This was an especially fun one as I usually record by myself with amp simulators and processors. My brother Jim came over with his killer rig so we could record using a miked tube amp. ( Something I never did before). He is playing all the guitars recorded in the left channel using a Gibson Les Paul through a Peavy ValveKing head running through a Marshall 1960B 4-12 cabinet loaded with Vintage 30's. Awesome set up! I was playing all the guitars in the center and right channel through the same rig using my ESP LTD EC1000. We are both singing vocals. Jim is singing the chorus vocals and me singing lead and backing vocals. I played Bass on this one through an Ampeg SVP Pro pre-amp run direct into my computer. Drums were processed using EZ Drummer software in ProTools. Fun, fun time Jimmy James!
