    Death and technicolor [disquiet0580]

The life of a plant kept springing to mind, full of life, growing new shoots breaking then eventually changing colour and beginning a slow decay into lifelessness, returning to the earth. I recorded a short organ loop to cassette, ran that into the CalSynth Rangoon, split into ALA cumulus and used 4x LFOs to vary amplitudes over time. Tascam ministudio DS -> Split into CalSynth Rangoon + ALA Cumulus + one dry signal. All outputs into ALM Tangle quartet with 4x LFOs applied to the CV inputs. Some light master FX applied in Ableton. ====================================================================== More on this 580th weekly Disquiet Junto project, Evo Evol Evolve (The Assignment: Record a piece of music that develops like an organism evolves), at: https://disquiet.com/0580/ More on the Disquiet Junto at: https://disquiet.com/junto/ Subscribe to project announcements here: https://tinyletter.com/disquiet-junto/ Project discussion takes place on llllllll.co: https://llllllll.co/t/disquiet-junto-project-0580-evo-evol-evolve/

    Redrone for ____ [disquiet0579]

I decided to re-perfom / re-record my contribution to week [250](https://soundcloud.com/theatlasroom/drone-for-disquiet0250). Most contributions have made heavy use of samples, but this was one of the few based on midi. I deleted all the existing instruments, piped the midi out to my Eurorack and recorded the results. The original project had a few audio FX chains, so i re-used them with the new tracks and made some more adjustments. Erica Synths Midi CV -> ALA Pachinko -> Calsynth Rangoon + MI Plaits -> ALA Cumulus -> ALM Tangle ====================================================== More on this 579th weekly Disquiet Junto project, Memory Serves (The Assignment: Rerecord a piece of music), at: https://disquiet.com/0579/ More on the Disquiet Junto at: https://disquiet.com/junto/ Subscribe to project announcements here: https://tinyletter.com/disquiet-junto/ Project discussion takes place on llllllll.co: https://llllllll.co/t/disquiet-junto-project-0579-memory-serves/

Two conversations of no importance [disquiet0468]

I collaborated with Luc Cage, not to be confused with Luke Cage. Luc is a not so well known sound engineer interested in the intersection of sound, space and mood, heavily influenced by the world of Musique concrète, drawing influence from the likes of Luc Ferrari, Arnold Schönberg and John cage, Luc wanted to provide a tension of maximalism and randomness teetering on the edge of anxiety, with a mild human touch. I contributed a set of field recordings that were re-imagined into loops as well as some sampled harp, delicately chopped stretched and reworked with the help of NI reaktor, after a few months wading through the world of hardware synthesis, it was refreshing to return to the computer, DAW and manual sound design that I started with so many years ago. ====================================================== More on this 468th weekly Disquiet Junto project, Mirror Rorrim (The Assignment: Create a new persona for yourself, and record a duet together), at: https://disquiet.com/0468/ More on the Disquiet Junto at: https://disquiet.com/junto/ Subscribe to project announcements here: https://tinyletter.com/disquiet-junto/ Project discussion takes place on llllllll.co: https://llllllll.co/t/disquiet-junto-project-0468-mirror-rorrim/ There’s also a Disquiet Junto Slack. Pberg dreams [disquiet0350]

Started late saturday night and 3 iterations later, its not done but its time for me to go to bed. Layered strings, woodwinds and rounded by a thick layered bass synth. Really just an attempt to finish an idea and share it before it becomes stale. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Disquiet Junto Project 0350: Selected Insomniac Works The Assignment: Make very quiet music for very late at night for very fragile psyches. Step 1: It’s the middle of the night, long past dusk and long before dawn. You can’t sleep. Step 2: Think about what kind of music you’d want to hear right now — super quiet, super subtle, unlikely to wake you, potentially to ease you back to the comfort of your pillow, or at least to calm your mind. Step 3: Record the sort of music that Step 2 made you imagine. Six More Important Steps When Your Track Is Done: Step 1: Include “disquiet0350” (no spaces or quotation marks) in the name of your track. Step 2: If your audio-hosting platform allows for tags, be sure to also include the project tag “disquiet0350” (no spaces or quotation marks). If you’re posting on SoundCloud in particular, this is essential to subsequent location of tracks for the creation a project playlist. Step 3: Upload your track. It is helpful but not essential that you use SoundCloud to host your track. Step 4: Post your track in the following discussion thread at llllllll.co: https://llllllll.co/t/disquiet-junto-project-0350-selected-insomniac-works/ Step 5: Annotate your track with a brief explanation of your approach and process. Step 6: Then listen to and comment on tracks uploaded by your fellow Disquiet Junto participants.

    Drone for ____ [disquiet0250]

Indecipherable layers, stacked densely on each other, unrecognisable sounds pulsing in and out, lacking clarity but constantly shifting. This is what i think it might feel like for a newborn baby to listen to the world. Midi Keyboard, Ableton and lots of editing. ================================================== Disquiet Junto Project 0250: Soothing Sounds for Junto Make some peaceful music for an infant child. This project marks the 250th weekly occurrence of the Disquiet Junto series, and it is done as well to congratulate the Junto participants Antenna Research (aka Karin L. Kross and Bruce Levenstein) on the birth of their son. Project Steps: Step 1: Back in the early 1960s, Raymond Scott released a set of music for infants, titled Soothing Sounds for Baby. We’re going to produce music along those lines today. Feel free to revisit Scott’s great collection. Step 2: Compose a piece of music intended for a newborn child, something peaceful as they first experience the world outside the womb. kinethik [disquiet0233]

I love the ability for overlapping sounds to produce their own internal rhythm, especially when they work in contrast to a more "defined" rhythm. Starting from a simple delayed 808 beat, "HNY" by Karl & Karlik was stretched pitched, filtered and overlaid to create a low rumbling drone and a higher pitched hiss. "Pepper Jelly" by Andre Darius and Riley Theodore was repeatedly chopped and pitched into increasingly smaller parts overlapping fragments of piano and other sounds. Finally I took "Autista 3" by Pablo Reche and tried to destroy it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Disquiet Junto Project 0233: Netlabel (NND Remix) The Assignment: Make one track from three different netlabels, courtesy of a Creative Commons license. Seeing the “ND” tag on a netlabel release is a major buzzkill. The “ND” tag denotes a Creative Commons license that rules out creating derivative work. Fortunately lots of netlabels do allow for creative reuse, and this occasional series of collaborative remixes seeks to celebrate that activity, and encourage other netlabels to switch off the ND tag. Take “NND” to mean “not no derivatives.” Step 1: Download the three tracks that will provide source audio for this remix: Use the first 30 seconds of “HNY” off the album Wormbole by ʞık (Karl & Karlik) on the Bump Foot netlabel: http://www.bumpfoot.net/bump207.html Use the first 30 seconds of “Pepper Jelly” off the album Recombinations by Andre Darius and Riley Theodore on the Haze netlabel: https://hazenetlabel.bandcamp.com/album/recombinations Use the first 30 seconds of “Autista 3” off the album Autista by Pablo Reche on the Impulsive Habitat netlabel: http://www.impulsivehabitat.com/releases/ihab113.htm Step 2: Create an original piece of work including that source material. Step 3: Upload your completed track to the Disquiet Junto group on SoundCloud. Step 4: Annotate your track with a brief explanation of your approach and process. Step 5: Then listen to and comment on tracks uploaded by your fellow Disquiet Junto participants. Deadline: This project was posted in the late morning, California time, on Thursday, June 16, 2016, with a deadline of 11:59pm wherever you are on Monday, June 20, 2016. Length: Length is up to you, though between two and three minutes seems about right. Upload: Please when posting your track on SoundCloud, only upload one track for this project, and be sure to include a description of your process in planning, composing, and recording it. This description is an essential element of the communicative process inherent in the Disquiet Junto. Photos, video, and lists of equipment are always appreciated. Title/Tag: When adding your track to the Disquiet Junto group on Soundcloud.com, please in the title to your track include the term “disquiet0233.” Also use “disquiet0233” as a tag for your track. Download: It is necessary that your track is set as downloadable, and that it allows for attributed remixing and attribution, per the Creative Commons license of the source audio.
