    Finish Your Breakfast: 5.14.2026

Finish Your Breakfast (5.14.2026): Shohei and Mookie help the Dodgers defeat the Giants 4-0. The Braves have taken two in a row over the Cubs - Drake Baldwin with his 11th homer of the season. The Nats Daylen Lile has hit three home runs in the last two games (Nats over the Reds in extras). The O’s won their 3-game series over the Yankees 2-1, with a 7-0 win yesterday. Byron Buxton hit two home runs in the Twins' loss to the Marlins—all of that and more on this episode of FYB.

  2. 275

    Finish Your Breakfast: 5.13.2026

Finish Your Breakfast (5.13.2026): Lots of action in the MLB to review: Derek Hill delivered a pinch-hit go-ahead homer in the 8th and a game-saving catch in the 9th to lead the Sox over the Royals. Daylen Lile and James Wood both homered in the Nats blowout of the Reds. Professional hitter Dom Smith went 4-4 with two runs scored as the Braves took game one of their series with the Cubs. And the Yankees reinstated their Jedi mind-control over the O’s—all of that and Ice Cube at Dodgers Stadium.

  3. 274

    Finish Your Breakfast: 5.12.2026

Honest question: Can you name the Rays’ starting lineup? Currently, they are the best team in the AL and one of the hottest teams in MLB, but their players are not household names. It was a short night in MLB. Let’s finish our breakfast together.

  4. 273

Finish Your Breakfast: 5.11.2026 (Mr. T Enters the Chat)

Finish Your Breakfast (5.11.2026): I hope everyone had a wonderful (and relaxing) Mother’s Day. Jo Adell had a huge day: 3 H, 2 HR, 2 RBIs, in a victory against the Jays. Aaron Judge hit his 16th home run of the season - Judge and Kyle Schwarber are tied for the MLB lead. The Brewers completed the sweep against the Yankees. The Rays are now in sole possession of first place in the AL East. The Braves win the 3-game series against the Dodgers out west. Drake Baldwin hit his 10th home run of the season—all of that and more on FYB.

Finish Your Breakfast: Happy Mother’s Day.

  7. 270

Finish Your Breakfast: 5.9.2026 (Tupac Bobblehead Night Took Over Charm City)

The most highly anticipated MLB bobblehead of ‘26 dropped last night in Baltimore. Did you get one? I think the Tupac bobblehead was the most anticipated MLB bobblehead since the Braves’ OutKast release a few years ago. The line at Camden Yards was crazy. The Orioles even open gates early to make it easier on fans. The eBay resale prices are around $150 right now. That price will go up before it goes down for the record. I absolutely love this collaboration. Tupac had a strong connection to Baltimore and the state of Maryland. His sister, Sekyiwa “Set” Shakur, was on hand to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Earlier in the day, Mayor Brandon Scott dedicated a street, Greenmount Ave, the the late rapper. Tupac spent his teenage years attending the Baltimore School of the Arts. All of that, and more, on today’s Finish Your Breakfast.

  8. 269

Finish Your Breakfast: 5.8.2026 (The Cubs Keep Winning)

Happy Friday! The Cubs keep winning. Is the NL Central the toughest division in baseball? Maysn Winn (Cards) and Chandler Simpson (Rays) triple to help their teams win on the road. Grisham and Judge contribute to a Yankees blowout, and the AUSL takes on Times Square. Finish Your Breakfast.

  9. 268

    Finish Your Breakfast: 5.7.2026

Finish Your Breakfast (5.7.2026): The Cubs keep winning! The Nats poured it on the Twins. CJ Abrams hit a Grand Slam (5 RBIs). The Mariners avoid the sweep against the Braves. Aaron Judge hit his MLB-leading 15th home run in a Yankees loss. Brice Matthews hit a homer, and remains steady in Houston. The Mets have won 3 in a row—all of those highlights and more on today’s FYB.

  10. 267

    Finish Your Breakfast: 5.6.2026

Finish Your Breakfast (5.6.2026): Byron Buxton has been named AL Player of the Week. Last week, Buxton hit 345 with 5 home runs and 7 RBIs. Last night, he hit another home run, and the Twins pitcher (Mixtape Fam) Taj Bradley pitched 6 IP, 2 ER, 8 Ks, to lead his club over the Nats. The Yankees, Braves, and Phillies all won again. The Phils are 7-1 under new manager Donnie Baseball, and are now tied with the Nats and Marlins for second in the NL East. Follow for more—DM BBM for merch information.

    Finish Your Breakfast: 4.30.2026

Finish Your Breakfast (4.30.26): Friends of the Mixtape Lawrence Butler, Will Benson, and James Wood have entered the chat today. Is anyone watching the Cubs v. Padres? Good teams, good series, but I haven’t been paying much attention (ha). I will watch the Cubs one day - I promised the Monday Night podcast crew. There are also some AA highlights on the Black Baseball Mixtape Substack. Are you in the Black Baseball Mixtape private Discord? If you want to talk baseball every day, send me a DM for the link.

  18. 259

    Finish Your Breakfast: 4.29.2026

Finish Your Breakfast (4.29.2026): Let the “Donnie Baseball” era begin in Philly. The Phillies fired Rob Thompson and elevated Don Mattingly as manager. Is anyone surprised that there's already talk of Alex Cora to Philly? What do you think will happen moving forward in Philly? On the the field, the Mariners Josh Naylor submitted his application for bat flip of the year. The Reds' Chase Burns made franchise history. And, Elly did it all last night - he may have even served popcorn. All of that, and more. Lots of highlights on IG, and even more on the BBM Substack. Finish Your Breakfast.

  21. 256

    Finish Your Breakfast: 4.27.2026

Finish Your Breakfast (4.27.2026): Question for the Mixtape family: Atlanta sports have a long-standing history of collaborating with Black entertainers, entrepreneurs, and themes. Some collaborations have been extremely successful, like the Braves Outkast bobblehead night, and some questionable (the Hawks Magic City Night), in terms of their results. To be clear, Atlanta sports franchises do not exclusively use these themes; they do so inclusively to ensure those connected to Black culture feel welcome. Why does this work so well in Atlanta? Can it work for other baseball franchises? Let me know in the comments. Start with the question and stick to the highlights. Finish Your Breakfast.

  22. 255

    Finish Your Breakfast: 4.26.2026

Finish Your Breakfast (4.26.2026): The Red Sox clean house. MLB visits Mexico City (Luchadors were involved). Reds fans are dancing in the rain. And I'm not even talking about on the field, where Nas Nunez was the Nats hero in Chi-town. The Phillies gained a game in the NL East. And there is no mention of the O's 16-run loss—all of that and more. Finish Your Breakfast.

  23. 254

    Finish Your Breakfast: 4.25.2026

Your daily dose of Black baseball highlights and news. The Phillies have lost 10 games in a row.The O's hit six home runs. The Reds keep winning.Junior Caminero hit two homers last night.Jazz getting on track for the bombers. All that, and more.

  24. 253

    Finish Your Breakfast: 4.24.2026

Happy Friday (unless you are Mike Brown or a Hawks fan. I’m only sort of kidding), Finish Your Breakfast (4.24.2026): The Braves are now the best team in baseball. The Yankees swept the Red Sox in a rivalry that seems to be losing juice. Blake Perkins, David Hamilton, and Jahmai Jones all played a big role in the Tigers v. Brewers game. The Mets got their second win in as many days. The Phillies are still struggling and have released Taijuan Walker. That makes Justin Crawford the only American-born Black player on the Phillies roster—all of that and more as I pray for a Knicks comeback in this round one series.

  25. 252

Cheats & Lewis Brinson: Thursday Night Live

Cheats & former MLB players Lewis Brinson discuss the week in MLB. The Black Baseball Mixtape podcast is in partnership with the Players Alliance, Numbers Game Scorebooks, and Minority Prospects. Contact: [email protected]

  26. 251

    Finish Your Breakfast (4.23.2026)

We are talking streaks on today's FYB. Ohtani's 53-game on base streak has come to an end. So has the Mets 12=game losing streak. Murakami now has a 5-game home run streak. And speaking of home runs, Black players, American-born Black players contributed 5 home runs and 8 RBIs in a BBM instant classic in DC last night. All of that and more on Finish Your Breakfast.

  27. 250

    Finish Your Breakfast: 4.22.2026

Finish Your Breakfast (4.22.2026): Shohei extends his on-base streak to 53. The Mets have lost twelve in a row (and counting). The Reds have won five games in a row, and they look very tough to beat. Will Benson made MLB history. And the Astros, between Cam Smith, Brice Matthews, Taylor Trammell (IL), and now Jet Johnson, and Dustin Harris, forget Angels in the Outfield, the Stros are making it happen in their outfield, I see you, Dana Brown. Finish Your Breakfast.

  28. 249

Finish Your Breakfast: 4.21.2026 (Election Day)

Finish Your Breakfast: 4.21.2026 (Election Day). Make sure you exercise your right to vote. I can’t speak for all communities, but for me and mine, voting is a right that cannot be taken for granted. It may seem small and insignificant, but these local and state elections often have more impact than many federal ones. Shout-out to friend of the Mixtape Josiah Gray for encouraging people to vote today. On the field, I’m locked in to the Braves v. Nats. This is a big series for Washington at home. The Rays and Reds are my BBM Extra Innings series to watch right now. If you’re not following the BBM audio podcast, make sure to download it. A new episode is out right now. Finish Your Breakfast…then go vote.

  29. 248

Black Baseball Mixtape Podcast: Monday Night Live (4.20.2026)

On this episode, the Mixtape crew talks about the struggling Mets, Royals, and Phillies. The surging Cubs and the surprising Rays. They also discuss the emergence of Dominic Smith in Atlanta and Jeremiah Jackson in Baltimore. They close the show with a discussion of the Padres' $3.9 billion sale to Jose E. Feliciano and Kwanza Jones. The Black Baseball Mixtape is in partnership with the Players Alliance, Minority Prospects, and Numbers Game Scorebooks. The podcast is hosted by Cheats, with contributions from Flobo Boyce, April Red, and Malik Chambers.

  30. 247

    Finish Your Breakfast: 4.20.2026

Finish Your Breakfast (4.20.2026): The Mets have dropped 11 in a row. The Phillies are off to their worst start since 2015. Judge and Rice are making home run history in the Bronx. Shohei keeps getting on base. Mason Miller cannot be hit, really. And, the Seattle Steelheads got a win at home—all of that and more on your daily dose of Black baseball news and highlights. Finish Your Breakfast.

  31. 246

    Finish Your Breakfast: 4.19.2026

Finish Your Breakfast (4.19.2026): The Padres are set to get new leadership, and with that leadership, history will be made. If the Padres sell to José E. Feliciano and Kwanza Jones, Feliciano will join the Angels’ Arte Moreno as the second Latino majority owner of an MLB franchise, and Jones will be the first African-American woman to be majority owner of an MLB franchise. $3.9 billion is a lot of money, but oftentimes, minorities have to overpay to break the good old network that has excluded our community for far too long. I will be watching these developments closely.

  32. 245

Finish Your Breakfast (4.18.2026): RIP Garret Anderson

Finish Your Breakfast (4.18.2026): RIP to Angels legend Garret Anderson. On Friday night, the Braves' Dom Smith and Mike Harris hit homers in a win. The Nationals'' Daylen Lile and James Wood hit home runs in a loss. The Cards Jordan Walker and Masyn Winn help their club beat the Astros. And Jeremiah Jackson is going on his way to joining Jo Adell in the FYB HOF. All of that AND the Black Baseball Mixtape Substack is number #98 in rising sports!

  33. 244

    Finish Your Breakfast: 4.17.2026

Finish Your Breakfast (4.17.2026): Trout and Judge finished their epic series in the Bronx. I believe the final count was 22 home runs between the Yankees and Angels in four games. Trout had 5 HR and 9 RBIs. Judge had 4 HRs and 5 RBIs. Jo Adell hit the big one yesterday, a grand slam in the eight inning. Angels won the game and tied the series. And, Jo Adell’s three-home run-robbing glove is going to Cooperstown. All of that and more on FYB.

  34. 243

Finish Your Breakfast: 4.16.2026 (MLB Celebrates Jackie Robinson)

Finish Your Breakfast (4.16.2026): A celebration of the life and legacy of Jackie Robinson. A full slate of games, and they did not disappoint. We had walk-offs in the Bronx and San Diego. Mike Trout and Aaron Judge are putting on a show. Jeremiah Jackson (O’s) and Drake Baldwin (Braves) are staying hot. And much more on this episode of FYB. Your daily dose of Black baseball news and highlights.

  35. 242

Finish Your Breakfast: 4.15.2026 (Happy Jackie Robinson Day!)

Happy Jackie Robinson Day! There is a lot to cover this morning, and we have to start with the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats. The top-ranked team in the SWAC has once again pulled a mid-week miracle, upsetting #20 Florida in Gainesville. I can’t remember the last time an HBCU baseball team upset two ranked SEC teams in the same season. Congrats to BCU. I have to give love to the UCLA Bruins. The #1 team in the country debuted their Jackie Robinson uniforms last night at Jackie Robinson Stadium. They put their 27-game win streak on the line and were upset by UCSB 4-0. A tough loss for the Bruins. All of that, and the Black baseball highlights from last night’s MLB action. Finish your Breakfast.

  36. 241

MLB's Diversity Data Shows an Evolving and Cautiously Encouraging Story

Last week, MLB released new diversity data. The data tells an evolving story, one that can foster confidence in future growth. The data showed 64 American-Born Black players out of 948 players on the ‘26 active rosters and injured list. That is 6.8%. That percentage is an increase from 2024 to 2025. The increase is the first consecutive two-year increase in 20 years. Why is this happening? Why is this happening now? I believe the combination of top-level grassroots activism, in partnership with MLB programs, has unlocked participation, targeted identification, and training to help our young people succeed at the highest levels. There is no single answer, but a combination of factors.

  37. 240

Finish Your Breakfast: 4.14.2026 (Mixtape Family Showed Out)

There is no other way to say it, Mixtape family showed out on Monday. Judge and Grisham hit two home runs for the Yankees. They beat the Angels 11-10. Jeremiah Jackson hit two home runs in the O's come-from-behind victory against the DBacks. Josh Naylor hit two home runs (5 RBIs) in the Mariners' win over the Astros. Lawrence Butler saved a home run, then hit one against the Rangers. CJ Abrams took Paul Skense over the wall. And Byron Buxton became the all-time home run leader at Target Field. All of that and more on this episode of FYB.

  38. 239

Black Baseball Mixtape Live (4.13.2026): Is there too much parity in baseball?

On this episode of the Black Baseball Mixtape podcast, the crew discusses MLB parity, new City Connect jerseys, and key early-season call-ups. Cheats ask the crew, who would you rather have for the next five years: Xavier Edwards or Chandler Simpson, and the emergence of Jordan Walker is analyzed. All of that and more on this episode of the Black Baseball Mixtape podcast. The Black Baseball Mixtape is in partnership with the Players Alliance, Minority Prospects, and Numbers Game (Scorebooks). 39. 238

    Finish Your Breakfast: 4.13.2026

Finish Your Breakfast (4.13.2026): Jordan Walker is on FIRE. He hit his MLB-leading seventh home run yesterday. The Cards lost to the Sox 9-3. Dom Smith hit his third homer of the season. The Braves beat the Guardians on Sunday night baseball, 13-1. The Nationals swept the Brewers over the weekend. James Wood homered in the Nats 8-6 win. The American League is pretty even across the board. The best records in the AL are 9-7 (Twins and Guardians), and the worst records are 6-10 (Astros and White Sox); only a three-game difference. Speaking of the Twins, Taj Bradley has been amazing this season. Last night he got his third win of the season. Twins beat the Jays 8-2. Congrats to Rays prospect Xavier Isaac; first home run since returning from brain surgery last November.

  40. 237

    Finish Your Breakfast: 4.12.2026

Finish Your Breakfast (4.12.2026): Jordan Walker, James Wood, Josh Bell, and Jeremiah Jackson all made some noise last night. The Astros and Mariners played a Mixtape Classic with Taylor Trammell, Cam Smith, and JP Crawford all making big plays. Crawford walked it off. Taijuan Walker got his first win of the season, and Justin Crawford continues to contribute to the Phillies—all of that and more on today’s FYB.

  41. 236

    Finish Your Breakfast: 4.11.2026

Finish Your Breakfast (4.11.2026): A full slate of MLB games on Friday night. The Dodgers are the first team to 10 wins. Max Muncy had a night: 3 HRs and a walk off. Acuna, Harris, and Baldwin came up BIG in ATL. So did Crawford and Randy in Seattle. CJ Abrams and James Wood powered DC over Milwaukee. And there were some rough starts by Chase Burns and Kumar Rocker. All of that, and more on Finish Your Breakfast. Your daily dose of Black baseball news and highlights.

  42. 235

Finish Your Breakfast: 4.10.2026 (New City Connect Uniforms)

New City Connect Uniforms (and hats) are out. The Braves, O's, Pirates, Reds, Royals, Padres, Rangers, and Brewers, all got a new wave of CC gear. Let me know what you think. The Black Baseball Mixtape just reached 100 subscribers on Substack. Thank you for your continued support.

  43. 234

Finish Your Breakfast: 4.9.2026 (Mo'ne Davis is going to Banana Land)

Finish Your Breakfast (4.9.2026): Mo’ne Davis, now of the Women’s Professional Baseball League (WPBL), has signed a contract to enter Banana Land, pitching for the Indianapolis Clowns. She is scheduled to play in the Banana Ball league starting on April 11. This is a perfect fit for the Clowns and coach Eric Fox. The Clowns enter Banana Land carrying the legacy of the Negro League team that was once home to Hank Aaron, Toni Stone, and Connie Morgan, just to name a few. All of that, and your daily MLB highlights on FYB. #ripdaveylopes

  44. 233

Finish Your Breakfast: 4.8.2026 (Bethune-Cookman Upsets LSU)

Finish Your Breakfast (4.8.2026): There was a lot that happened in the MLB last night, but I’m starting with a midweek upset in the NCAA. Congrats to HBCU Bethune-Cookman for knocking off #24 LSU. The Wildcats are in first place in the SWAC with a 23-10 record. This win marks their first against a ranked opponent since 2017. The LSU Tigers are the defending National Champions, but have struggled early in the powerful SEC. They are 6-6 in conference and 22-12 overall. Switching to MLB: James Wood and Jordan Walker hit homers last night. The Yankees beat the A’s dramatically. The Blue Jays have lost six games in a row. Oh yeah, and there was a brawl in LA.

  45. 232

    Finish Your Breakfast: 4.7.2026

After 18 months, baseball returned to Tropicana Field in Tampa. Cedric Mullins and Junior Caminero hit home runs. Chandler Simpson flashed some leather in the Rays' 6-4 win. The Braves' Drake Baldwin has been on FIRE. His home run in the first inning ties the MLB league lead. Is Baldwin this year's Cal Raleigh? Jo Adell hit his first homer of the season, and Jose Soriano pitched a gem (8 IP, 10Ks) in the Angels' 6-2 win. A wild one in DC, James Wood and CJ Abrams hit homers for the Nats. Jordan Walker hit a homer for the Cards. The Nats win the slugfest 9-6. Not mentioned in the highlights, the Dodgers embarrassed the Blue Jays in the first game of the '25 World Series rematch. Shohei hit his third homer in as many days, and the Dodgers used Miguel Rojas to pitch the 9th (SMH). The Jays have lost five in a row.

  46. 231

Home Run Robberies! Black Baseball Mixtape Live: 4.6.2026

On this episode of the Black Baseball Mixtape podcast, Cheats, Flobo, April, and Malik talk about teams that have overachieved and underachieved in the early weeks of the baseball season. Flobo deep dives into the emerging White Sox. April asks us which closer has the best sequence from the bullpen to the mound, and Malik highlights the Black-American players in the game putting in crazy work (Jo Adell, CJ Abrams, Drake Baldwin, Taj Bradley, and more). The Black Baseball Mixtape is in partnership with the Players Alliance, Number Games Scorebooks, and Minority Prospects. Please visit the website of all of our wonderful partners.

  47. 230

    Finish Your Breakfast: 4.6.2026

Finish Your Breakfast (4.6.2026): A full slate of games in MLB on Easter Sunday. Every team played, and the Cubs and Guardians played two (S/O to Ernie Banks). James Wood (Nats) hit his second homer of the season, but the Nats could not avoid the sweep by the Dodgers. Mookie Betts was placed on the IL with a strained oblique. The Braves’ Drake Baldwin had a day: 3-5, 4 RBIs, 1 HR, but the Braves lost to the Diamondbacks 6-5, and split the four-game series. Marcus Semien and Devin Williams helped lead the Mets over the Giants 5-2. Jo Adell did what he does best (not home run robberies): he knocked in a run to tie the game against the Mariners. Angels won 8-7. All of those highlights, and more, on your daily dose of Black baseball news and highlights.

  48. 229

    Finish Your (Easter) Brunch: 4.5.2026

Finish Your (Easter) Brunch (4.5.2026): Yes, I took the morning off and attended Sunday service with the family, but I’m still here with your daily dose of Black baseball highlights. The story of Saturday had to be Jo Adell’s hat trick of home run robberies. The last one on JP Crawford was unreal. Adell is known more his power, but he is proving he can flash the leather in right field. Congratulations are in order for CJ Abrams. His twelve RBIs in the Nats’ first seven games is a modern-day franchise record. Kudos to Justin Crawford for the first stolen base of his MLB career. Jordan Walker (STL) and Cam Smith (HOU) both hit homers on Saturday. Jack Flaherty (DET) and Kumar Rocker (TEX) both had solid outings on the bump. All of that and more on Easter Sunday. Finish Your Easter Brunch.

  49. 228

Finish Your Breakfast: 4.4.206 (Nats Home Opener)

Finish Your Breakfast 4.4.2026 (Nats Home Opener): I was on hand to cover the Nats home opener. The weather was great, the energy was high, and the back-to-back World Champion Dodgers were in town. I chopped it up with several of my favorite players and got a few great Mixtape polaroids. Much more content and coverage coming soon. To recap the day in Black baseball, several players showed out: Lawrence Butler was player of the game for the Athletics (3-5, 4, RBIs, HR), Josh Bell had two RBIs in the Twins' win. Aaron Judge led the Bombers over the Marlins. There were homers from Xavier Edwards and Marcus Semien. And Jordan Walker made one of the best throws of his career.

  50. 227

    Finish Your Breakfast: 4.3.2026

Short night in MLB, there were only three games played. Taj Bradley got his first win of the season. Josh Bell hit his second home run, and Byron Buxton got his first RBI of the year in a win over the Royals. The Braves embarrassed the Diamondbacks. Dom Smith hit his second home run of the season. Drake Baldwin is the first Braves' player to score in seven straight games since Hank Aaron. The last game of the evening was in the Bay, the Giants beat the Mets 7-2. I will be in DC covering the Nationals' home opener. If you see me around Nats Park, please say hello.
