  5. 57

Wayne Bennett's Man in the Mirror (2008) wants you to remember the War and forget the scandal

In this week's Bookpod I'm talking Wayne Bennett's Man in the Mirror - a 2008 autobiography published following the 21st and final year of Bennett's first stint at the helm of the Broncos. An odd book with an audience that Wayne doesn't necessarily seem interested in speaking to.

  6. 56

Is Wally and The Broncos (1989) Boomer Bait?

It's the off-season, that means it's time to get through that huge chunk of footy books lying around, and to start with, it's the book that has sat in the corner of my mind for my entire life

  21. 41

Still the Last: make Rugby League an Olympic Sport

Whoops sorry we mostly watched Lympics this week. Podcast NOT brought to you by Pizzeria Sicily.

  22. 40
  23. 39
  24. 38

Still the Last: Origin 3 preview; movies to cry to

I forgot to mention Manchester by the Sea as a movie to cry to but my god that film completely ruins me. Michelle Williams' "do you want to get lunch some time" is the single most innocous yet destructive line of dialogue

  25. 37

Still the Last: Origin 3 teams, Jarome Luai can't swim

I've not read anyore of God Emperor of Dune since two podcasts ago, I felt like I needed something to disrupt the sameness of the narrative after only reading the first three books, so I picked up Sacred Hoops by Phil Jackson, which is a great and really easy read. Some people recommend that book as a good leadership/mentoring type read but I just like it for the Jordan stories.

  26. 36

Still the Last: Gone but not forgotten

David is back from his undisclosed mission to help save a man whose identity we cannot mention

  27. 35

Still the Last: Origin 2 review; do it at Suncorp ya dogs

I haven't got much further in God Emperor of Dune this week, sorry.

  28. 34

Still the Last: Origin Two Teams, aka the Two State Solution w/Tyronne

I've hit somewhat of a snag reading God Empeor of Dune. I am enjoying the narrative and I find Leto II a really interesting characters, with Herbert dialling up the introspection and making a very weird guy if not understandable, at least interesting, but I find that now, four books into the series, I would prefer a story that isn't about everyone trying to assassinate the Atreides. Bit of Fremen conquest maybe?? Oh yeah Tyronne Thomas joins us for this episode too.

  29. 33

Still the Last: Trouble in Tiger Town

Dune update: I'm about 100 pages into God Emperor of Dune and I'm enjoying it. It feels like Herbert is trying to write another version of Dune Messiah but this time do it properly. It's immediately obvious that the writing is much more polished in this one, and the time jump so far is working for me.

  30. 32

Still the Last: Origin 1, Leisel Jones, PNG and Rishi Sunak

I just finished reading Children of Dune last night, which means I get to read God Emperor of Dune now which everyone says is good but wow Dune Messiah and Children of Dune are such a drop in quality aren't they? Like Messiah feels like a first draft the entire time, and while the tone of Children matches the first Dune, Herbert's attempt to reintroduce the wide scope of characters and stories it just doesn't really hit in that narrative does it? Anyway - rugba leeg.

  31. 31

Still the Last: Dropping Dave Fifita

Talking origin: mate vs. mate, state vs. state, I didn't throw up on a train this weekend.

  32. 30

Still the Last: Magic Round Roundup

Bit of a bumper episode covering the last two weeks of the greatest game of all

  33. 29

Still the Last: David Fifita's domestic duties

PLUS - our way too early origin teams

  34. 28

Still the Last: Paul Kent Devotees

In this episode we resume NRL mediawatch, including Peter Fitzsimons tweet about who were the bad guys in world war 2, really? Paul Kent's night in Rozelle, Footy Legends and the movie Napoleon - oh and some rugba leeg

  35. 27

Still the Last: going to Gaza with Sonny Bill Williams

You're not reading the description, are you?

  36. 26
  37. 25
  38. 24

  49. 13
