For the final episode of season 2 we're joined by the distinguished chair in orthopaedic surgery at the university of Missouri, Jimi Cook. Jimi co-authored the 2010 complications paper that is so often cited. We discuss that paper alongside some human field equivalents. In this episode we're joined by BVOA chair Andy Moores :-) Andy is a renowned specialist based in South East England. We hear about his career, discuss BVOA, and hear about Andy's experiences with the 3rd generation TATE elbow replacement system. We look at a recent paper on complications and outcomes on 80 dogs with common calcaneal tendon pathology and then discuss the condition more broadly with some top tips for tarsal arthrodesis. We also hear about Ellie's recent experience as a contestant on the TV show Gladiators and chat about what we as surgeons can learn from professional athletes. Ben Walton is a RCVS specialist and also R&D director at Fusion Implants. We talk about humeral intracondylar fissures and two papers looking at Fusion's HIRS screw. Specialist small animal surgeon Abbie Tipler joins Simon and Duncan from Brisbane Australia! Abbie set up the small animal surgery discussion group on Facebook in 2015, it now has 9000 members from all over the world discussing surgical cases. We hear about Abbie's career, how she set the group up and how she maintains it. We also discussed women in orthopaedics - how do we encourage more female vets into orthopaedics? We also chat about Louise’s career, explore pain management more broadly, delve into stem cell treatment, and pick up some handy tips for anaesthetising patients undergoing orthopaedic surgery.
