    #16 - Andrea's Journey to the LA Philharmonic w/ Andrea Caputo

    Italian by birth, citizen of the world by training, Andrea has been studying all over the globe with some of the most sought-after mentors in the world: in Los Angeles at The Colburn School with Yehuda Gilad, at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome with Alessandro Carbonare, as well as graduating from the Universität “Mozarteum” in Salzburg in the class of Wenzel Fuchs and at the Conservatoire national supérieur de Paris in the class of Pascal Moraguès. An active orchestral musician, Andrea has just been appointed Associate Principal Clarinet of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and is a member of the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra. He has performed in many of the best stages with some of the finest ensembles, such as the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich, Orchestre de Paris, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, San Diego Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra dell’Accademia di Santa Cecilia di Roma, under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel, Riccardo Muti, Valery Gergiev, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Klaus Mäkelä, Simon Rattle, Antonio Pappano, Gianandrea Noseda, Iván Fischer, Paavo Järvi, Daniele Gatti, Zubin Mehta, Christoph Eschenbach, Fabio Luisi, Manfred Honeck, Charles Dutoit, Hannu Lintu, Lahav Shani, Gábor Takács-Nagy, Rafael Payare, Domingo Hindoyan. A passionate chamber musician, Andrea is a the founding members of Trio Caspar (@triocaspar), the first Honors Chamber Music Ensemble in residence at The Colburn School. In addition, he has performed with many great artists, most notably Paul Watkins (Emerson String Quartet), Gary Hoffman, and Tine Thing Helseth, as well as touring with woodwind members of the Berliner Philharmoniker during the KonstKnekt Vinterfestspill in Norway. Previous seasons engagements included, among others, a tour in Europe with the Estonian Festival Orchestra and Paavo Järvi, Europe and America tours with the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra, a chamber music tour in Japan with Brahms and Mozart’s Clarinet Quintets, as well as a debut as soloist with the Budapest Festival Orchestra conducted by Gábor Takács-Nagy, performing Weber’s Clarinet Concerto in F minor, Op. 73. Andrea is a prizewinner of several national and international competition, such as the 18th Aeolus International Competition (Düsseldorf), “Carlino” International Clarinet Competition (Udine), Premio Crescendo (Firenze), and Sándor Végh Competition (Budapest), as well as coming to attention as one of the six semifinalists of the prestigious ARD Competition in Münich (Germany), performing Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in A major with the Munich Chamber Orchestra. As a teacher, Andrea was Professor of Clarinet at the Conservatory of Trapani, Italy. He is currently the Teaching Assistant for the clarinet studio of his mentor Yehuda Gilad at The Colburn School in Los Angeles, where he will also be completing his Artist Diploma in May 2026. Andrea is a Buffet Crampon artist and performs exclusively on their instruments.     #14 - Stepping into the Professional World w/ Robert DiLutis

    Robert DiLutis is currently professor of clarinet at the University of Maryland, School of Music, College Park.  Previously Mr. DiLutis was professor of clarinet at the Louisiana State University School of Music from 2009-2012, assistant principal and e-flat clarinetist with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and a clarinet professor at the Eastman School of Music. Mr. DiLutis has also served on the faculties of the St. Mary's University in Texas and Nazareth College in New York. Most recently Mr. DiLutis developed and taught an Orchestral Audition Training Program for the Eastman School of Music. His many clinics and master classes have included Ithaca College, Hartt School of Music, Boston University, New England Conservatory, Longy School of Music and the Academia y Banda De Musica De Norena, Oviedo, Spain.Making his Carnegie Hall Recital debut in 1989, Mr. DiLutis has also performed as a featured soloist with ensembles such as the San Antonio Symphony, Baton Rouge Symphony and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Recently Mr. DiLutis toured with the New York Philharmonic on its historic trip to Pyongyang, North Korea. Mr. DiLutis is a graduate of the Juilliard School where he studied with David Weber. In addition to his performance career Mr. DiLutis in the creator of the Reed Machine, a reed-making device used by top professionals around the world.     #12 - From Practice Room to Concert Hall - w/ Mark Dover

    Grammy® Award-winning clarinetist Mark Dover is a man of many horns, maintaining firm roots in classical music while ever-expanding into the vast world of improvised music. Since 2016, he has served as the clarinetist of Imani Winds, and has appeared as a soloist with the Atlanta, Baltimore, and Albany Symphonies, and the American Composers Orchestra. Most recently, Mark was awarded a Grammy as a player and producer for “Best Classical Compendium” at the 2024 Grammy Awards for Imani Wind’s latest release, “Passion for Bach and Coltrane.” His debut album with Imani Winds, “Bruits,” was nominated for Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance at the 2022 Grammy Awards. In 2023 Mark also joined the chamber ensemble yMusic. 2023 highlights include appearances at Carnegie Hall Presents with both Imani Winds and yMusic, NPR’s tiny desk with yMusic, and debuts at La Jolla Music Society and Tippet Rise Arts Center. Mark joined the chamber music faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music in 2021 and also serves on the clarinet faculty at Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, and at Queens College, CUNY. Mark has an extensive background in improvised music. He is a frequent collaborator with Vulfpeck, an American funk band formed in his hometown of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Mark received his Master of Music degree from Manhattan School of Music and his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Michigan.     #9 - A Conversation w/ Abdo Timejardine-Zomeño

    Abdo Timejardine-Zomeño (b. 2000), born and residing in Chicago, IL is an accomplished Arab-American clarinetist, woodwind doubler, composer, conductor, and educator. He is currently earning double bachelors degrees in Clarinet Performance and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Illinois-Chicago.  With an active schedule, Abdo regularly performs with the Lakeside Pride Symphonic Band and the Middle East Music Ensemble of the University of Chicago. He has also performed with The Naperville Winds, Northshore Concert Band, and Chicago Philharmonic. As a soloist and chamber musician, he’s had the opportunity to collaborate with clarinetists from across the United States, South America, Europe, and the Middle East. His recent travels have taken him to Denver, Colorado for the 50th Anniversary of the International Clarinet Association, as well as Phoenix, Arizona for the first ever Low-Clarinet Festival. In March 2023, he had the opportunity to play for renowned clarinetist Julian Bliss in a masterclass during Bliss’s residency at UIC for the consortium premiere of John Mackey’s clarinet concerto, Divine Mischief.  As a composer, his works have been performed by the Atlanta Freedom Bands, Music for Everyone Summer Camp, UIC Saxophone Quartet, ~Nois Saxophone Quartet, Third Coast Percussion, and members of New Music Chicago. His compositions have acquired attention from notable composers such as Jennifer Jolley. He credits his mentors: Kyle Rhoades, José Oliver Riojas, Nicholas Carlson, Marc Mellits, Jennifer Jolley, Kaitlin Bove, Janet Song Kim, Alan Theisen, and Serena Weren for his development as a clarinetist, composer, and conductor.     The Meridian Clarinet Quartet, established in February 2023, is comprised of four accomplished musicians from prominent orchestras across the United States. Our name, 'Meridian,' signifies our converging paths here in the United States, all of us having traveled from one side of the globe to the other to embark on our respective musical journeys. It also symbolizes our aspiration to reach the great artistic heights only possible through sensitive and thoughtful collaboration, the musical thread passing through each of us before being transmitted to our audiences. Our mission is deeply rooted in nurturing appreciation for the enchanting world of clarinet music while fostering the talents of future generations.     Dr. Larkin Sanders is a native of Branson, Missouri, and currently lives in Kansas City, Missouri where she is the clarinet instructor at Washburn University and William Jewell College, owns the Clever Clarinetist (a clarinet specialty store), is the Executive-Artistic Director of the Taneycomo Festival Orchestra, is the utility clarinetist for the Topeka Symphony Orchestra, and performs frequently with a variety of other ensembles. Dr. Sanders is a performing artist for Henri Selmer Paris, D’Addario & Co., Brian Corbin Clarinet Products, and she is a Silverstein Pro Team Artist.     #6 Podcasting for Musicians - with Eric the Violinist

    Based in Boston, Massachusetts, Eric Mrugala is a violinist who performs and educates about the violin. Eric is an active teacher in the Boston-area serving as a violin faculty member at the Sharon Music Academy, Concord Conservatory of Music, and All Newton Music School. His students have won top prizes in the International Crescendo Little Mozarts Competition and was awarded Best Teacher Award by the Crescendo International Music Competition.  In addition to teaching, Eric enjoys an active performance career. He has performed with New England ensembles like the Berkshire Symphony, Bennington Chorale, Keene Chorale, Cape Ann Symphony and Boston Philharmonia. Mrugala has made appearances in Boston Symphony Hall, Sanders Theater, Kresge Auditorium, Carnegie Hall, Chicago Symphony Hall, Royal Concertgebouw Hall, De Doulen Hall, Smetana Hall, Dvorak Hall, UMass Amherst Concert Hall, and Bezanson Recital Hall. His past engagements include collaborating with living composers and performing alongside members of the Fifth House Ensemble at Fresh Inc Festival. Other chamber music experiences include the Brancaleoni International Music Festival in Italy, and the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival in Burlington, VT.   Eric also enjoys performing different genres outside of classical music. Past engagements include performing with Iranian violinist Bijan Mortazavi at Berklee Performance Center, Freda World Music in Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall, and most recently with Grammy Award Winner Vijay Prakash in Worcester's Hannover Theatre.  Eric Mrugala received his Bachelor's Degree at the Boston Conservatory, and completed his Masters degree at the University of Massachusetts Amherst as a Graduate Quartet Fellow, and a recipient of the Julian Olevsky Violin/Viola Memorial Award.     Critically praised for “brilliant and stunning” performances, “terrific virtuosic playing,” and “a fine sense of drama,” David Cook is Associate Professor of Clarinet and Chair of Instrumental Performance Studies at Millikin University, Principal Clarinet of the Millikin-Decatur Symphony Orchestra, and clarinetist for the Appian Duo (with Emily Grabinski, piano) and the Greyline Duo (with Alexandra Rodriguez, flute). Previously a member of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra, the Lawton Philharmonic Orchestra, the Lieurance Woodwind Quintet, and the wind quintet Fiati Five, David has also performed with the Chicago Sinfonietta, Oistrakh Symphony of Chicago, Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia da Camera, Northbrook Symphony, Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra, Heartland Festival Orchestra, Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Norman Philharmonic, and the Texas Music Festival Orchestra.     #2 The Career of a Clarinet Ambassador - with Ricky Latham

    Originally from Mason City, Iowa, Ricky began his clarinet studies in fifth grade where he learned clarinet from various teachers. It wasn’t until high school where Ricky began taking private lessons under Harvey Von Wald. Harvey helped Ricky develop a work ethic and self-discipline on the instrument. Something that would carry on forever in his studies both on clarinet and outside.    Hailed by the University of Northern Iowa’s Wind Ensemble director, Dr. Danny Galyen describes Ricky Latham’s clarinet playing as having a “rich, warm sound, with exemplary technique on the instrument. His playing is always sensitive and is admired for his serious work ethic, discipline, and musicianship.”   Ricky graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 2022, where he was under the tutelage of Dr. Amanda McCandless. Ricky has continued to grow and expand his knowledge of the clarinet with exemplary technique and performance, with the important underlying base of pedagogy.   Upon completion of his undergraduate studies, Ricky attended Bowling Green State University from 2022-2024 under the guidance of Kevin Schempf. During his time at BGSU, Ricky has acquired a teaching assistantship, where he coached a woodwind quintet to winning second place in the prestigious Douglas Wayland Chamber Music Competition.   Ricky is now a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate at Michigan State University, under the direction of Dr. Guy Yehuda and Dr. Wang Mingzhe.     Doctoral candidate in Clarinet Performance at the University of Georgia, Ricardo is currently a Teaching Assistant at the UGA Clarinet Studio where he teaches private lessons, coaches ensembles, and conducts the UGA Clarinet Choir.
