3 Mistakes People Make with Systems

If your systems only work when life is calm, motivation is high, and the week is going perfectly… they may not be built for real life.In this episode, I’m walking through 3 common mistakes people make with systems. These are the exact traps that make routines feel exciting at first but impossible to maintain once normal life kicks back in.We’ll talk about:• building systems for your best day instead of your average day• trying to fix every broken system at once• forgetting to adjust your systems for the season you’re actually inI’m also sharing stories from my own life—what I’ve learned from work, motherhood, busy seasons, and the ongoing process of building systems that are simple, flexible, and repeatable. This episode is a great one if you’ve ever said:“Why can’t I make this work?”“Why do my routines only last a few weeks?”“Do I need a brand-new system… or just a better one for this season?”You do not need a perfect system. You need a system that works on a messy Tuesday.Listen in and let’s figure out which system needs your attention most right now.Links + Resources MentionedJoin my newsletter: https://www.encouragerpodcast.com/optinLeave a review on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-encourager-podcast-equipping-christian-moms-to/id1018941720Listen on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5fZ4iUbywIwI3IFk9x0C5vLet’s connect on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/encouragerpodcast/Learn more about the 5 Systems: https://www.encourageracademy.com/Shop Rebekah Scott Designs: https://shoprsd.comShop my Amazon favorites: https://www.amazon.com/shop/shoprsdIf this episode encouraged you, share it with a friend, post it to your stories, or send it to someone who’s trying to make home and work life function a little better right now.And if you haven’t already, make sure you’re following the show so you never miss an episode!

How To Know If A System Is Broke

What if the problem isn’t your discipline… but your system? In this episode, I’m helping you identify one of the biggest reasons overwhelm keeps showing up in your home and work life: a broken system. If you’ve ever felt frustrated by the same recurring chaos—laundry piles, dinner scramble, missed deadlines, clutter, forgotten plans—this episode will help you stop blaming yourself and start asking better questions.I’m walking through 3 clear signs a system may be broken:You have to rely on willpower to make it workThe same problem keeps showing up every weekThe system only works for one version of your lifeI also share practical examples from my own home and remind you that tiny systems can make a big difference. Sometimes the answer is not trying harder. Sometimes the answer is redesigning what is no longer working for this season. If one area of your life feels off, this episode will help you isolate it, assess it, and begin making gentle changes that support your real life—not some imaginary perfect Monday.A few questions to reflect on after listening:What keeps repeating this week?Where does it break down? What tiny system could prevent this?If you are tired of feeling like you just need to “do better,” this episode is your reminder that peace often starts with a better system.Links + Resources MentionedJoin the newsletter:https://www.encouragerpodcast.com/optinListen on Apple Podcasts:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-encourager-podcast-equipping-christian-moms-to/id1018941720Listen on Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/show/5fZ4iUbywIwI3IFk9x0C5vLet’s connect on Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/encouragerpodcast/Learn more about the 5 Systems:https://www.encouragerpodcast.com/Encourager-productsShop Rebekah Scott Designs:https://shoprsd.com/Amazon favorites:https://www.amazon.com/shop/shoprsdIf this episode encouraged you, would you share it with a friend or leave a review on Apple Podcasts?      Decision fatigue isn’t a personality flaw — and it’s not just hormones or a busy season. It’s the quiet exhaustion that comes from making too many small decisions all day long.In this episode, I’m sharing one of the most practical tools I use in my own life and work: pre-decisions.Pre-decisions are choices you make once, ahead of time, so future-you doesn’t have to negotiate with tired-you. They aren’t rigid rules — they’re life-giving permissions that reduce mental clutter and free up space for what actually matters. We’ll walk through:What decision fatigue really is (and why it sneaks up on you)Why overwhelm often comes from deciding — not doingHow pre-decisions create less thinking and more beingReal-life examples of pre-decisions in each of the five systems:MeFoodHomeWorkFamilyI’ll also challenge you to start small — just one pre-decision — and show you how even a 1% shift can reduce the mental load you’re carrying. You don’t need more discipline. You need fewer decisions. Ready to Go Deeper? If this episode encouraged you, here are a few ways to keep the momentum going:📬 Join the NewsletterGet weekly encouragement, practical systems, and behind-the-scenes life + business insights delivered straight to your inbox.👉 https://www.encouragerpodcast.com/🎧 Listen & Review on Apple PodcastsYour reviews help more women find the show and feel less alone in the overwhelm.👉 https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-encourager-podcast-equipping-christian-moms-to/id1018941720🎧 Listen on SpotifyPrefer Spotify? Things I Don’t Do

Have you ever looked at someone and thought, “How are they doing it all?”The truth is, most people are not doing it all. They’ve just quietly decided what they will no longer carry. In this episode, I walk through my personal “Things I Don’t Do” list across the five systems: Me, Food, Home, Family, and Work. These are not rules for everyone. They are life-giving decisions for this season. Some examples I share:I don’t do red dyeI don’t watch movies twiceI don’t do takeout pizzaI don’t buy extra appliances when my KitchenAid works just fineI don’t clean my windowsI don’t use a traditional plannerI don’t allow sleepovers before 5th gradeI don’t celebrate Mother’s Day in the traditional wayI don’t do coffee datesI don’t start work before 9amThese decisions are not about perfection. They are about peace. At the end of the episode, I challenge you to create your own list by asking:What drains me every single time? What do I keep doing out of guilt? What could I release for this season?Because margin really does create joy.

The Holy High-Five: What Happens After a Coaching Call

Today’s episode is a little different. I’m sharing why coaching has become such a profound part of my work — and my walk with God.This is not a how-to episode. It’s a heart episode.I’m sharing:How the Encourager Podcast led naturally into one-on-one coachingWhy I believe coaching should never be cookie-cutterWhat I’ve seen happen when women stop forcing systems and start honoring their seasonReal coaching stories where small, faithful steps led to real transformationWhy permission can be just as powerful as productivity✨ Why Personalized Coaching Matters?  Over and over again, I’ve watched women:Discover hidden pockets of time they didn’t believe existedCreate momentum without sacrificing their marriage or familyBuild businesses, systems, and confidence without burning outLearn how to honor both their calling and their capacityCoaching isn’t about pushing harder. It’s about seeing clearly.📖 Scripture That Shapes My Coaching1 Peter 4:10 – Use whatever gift you’ve received to serve othersEphesians 2:10 – You were created for good works prepared in advanceProverbs 27:17 – Iron sharpens ironGod didn’t make carbon copies — and coaching shouldn’t treat women like one.If you’ve been telling yourself:“I’ll start once things calm down”“I just need to get through the next few weeks”“I don’t even know where to begin”I want you to pause and ask:What would change if someone helped you sort this out — one step at a time? You don’t need a perfect plan. The Greatest Gift You Can Give Your Family (and It’s Free)

In this heartwarming December mini-episode, I share why love is spelled T-I-M-E. It’s not the gifts or grand gestures that shape our families—it’s the small, consistent moments of connection. From greeting my kids after school to lingering at the dinner table, I’ve learned that presence is the purest form of love.I share real-life examples from my own home: gravel road walks, quick devotionals before bed, board games at the dining table, and the importance of looking up from our phones. I also reflect on insights from my church’s young adult group—a powerful reminder that even grown kids crave connection over things.Scripture: 1 Corinthians 16:14 — “Let all that you do be done in love.”Reflection Questions:When do I feel most connected to my family? How can I add more “quantity time” into my week? What distractions (like my phone) can I lay down to be more present? How can I intentionally create more shared moments — meals, walks, or games — this month? What does love look like in my home when it’s spelled T-I-M-E?Mentioned in this Episode:Board game SET — Click here! Love grows in the little moments. That moment led to a heart shift: from serving efficiency as a god, to seeing it as a tool that should support (not replace) my values and mission. This episode invites you to pause, reflect, and realign how you approach productivity—through the lens of intentionality, connection, and grace. 💡 In This Episode, I Share: The phrase that changed how I view my time: Efficiency is king, but it’s a terrible god A personal story of missing a bedtime moment—and what it taught me about priorities How efficiency can quietly become an idol in our homes and schedules What it looks like to choose presence over productivity in the 5 systems: Me, Food, Home, Work, and Family 3 questions to help you reclaim connection and peace 📥 Free Resource: Download the Mini Journal: Efficiency vs. Intentionality and reflect on where you can shift from hustle to holy: 👉 Grab the free journal here ✨ Reminder: Efficiency should support your values—not define them. Organizing and Designing with Guest Whitney English

How do we design a home that feels like us—without the pressure of perfection? In today’s episode, I sit down with Whitney English—designer, business owner, and author of Organize First, Decorate Second—to talk about organizing with intention and beauty. We explore the tension between wanting a gorgeous space and needing it to work for our real, messy, lived-in lives.
