    Infant Botulism

    In November 2025, ByHeart Infant Formula was recalled due to its link with infant botulism. As of December 3, 2025, a total of 39 infants with suspected or confirmed infant botulism and confirmed exposure to ByHeart Whole Nutrition infant formula (various lots) have been reported from 18 states. Laboratory confirmation for some cases is ongoing. Illnesses started on dates ranging from August 9 to November 19, 2025. All 39 infants were hospitalized. No deaths have been reported to date. For 38 infants with age and 39 with sex information available, they range in age from 16 to 264 days, and 15 (38%) are female.One of our own BRC clients developed botulism in September. While it was not related to the ByHeart formula, I thought it may be helpful to discuss this topic due to the severity of the illness. Today we talk to Laura Raggi, and her sweet baby, Gabby as they take us through the horrific period when Gabby contracted botulism. The BRC is a nonprofit organization. After birthing her micro-preemie son, Once Upon A Preemie, Inc's founder, Jenné Johns, took personal action by writing Once Upon A Preemie, a comforting children's book for Black preemie families who feel ignored and unsupported while in the NICU. The book expanded into a non-profit organization that pioneered the industry’s first Health and Racial Equity e-Learning Training program for healthcare professionals across the globe and allows all to donate our Once Upon A Preemie book to any facility that supports preemie families.     Dr. Jill Baker and Infertility

    Today Colette and Louisa talk to Dr. Jill Baker. Dr. Baker is the CEO of a coaching company “A Tribe Called Fertility LLC” for couples of color who need infertility and prenatal support and her podcast “Maternal Health 911”, a support system for BIPOC women and families as they endure fertility and maternal health issues. Dr. Jillian Lucas Baker, DrPH, EdM is the Research Director of the Center for Parent and Teen Communication (CPTC) at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Baker holds her Doctorate in Public Health (DrPH) from Drexel University. She is a trained community mental health counselor with a BA degree from the University of Pennsylvania and an EdM (Masters in Education) from Temple University. She completed postdoctoral training at the National Center on Fathers and Families (NCOFF)/Graduate School of Education and the School of Nursing (both at the University of Pennsylvania). She will complete her Certification in Health and Wellness Coaching at Rowan University in Fall 2024.
