From Patient to Pioneer 7/10- Why Concierge? Fixing a Broken System
Send your Idea for Next PodcastWelcome back! Over the last decade, I've realized something frustrating: you can't truly fix chronic health issues in a standard clinic model. Today, I'm opening up about why I’m transitioning to a Private Membership Clinic, and why teaching you to fish is my ultimate goal."The Problem with the Current Model: Conventional models, and even some functional medicine clinics, don't allow doctors the time to sit with patients, look at complex labs and genetics, and find the root cause. The Value of Skin in the Game: Free massages versus charging $20. When things are free, people no-show, but when they have financial skin in the game, they actually show up, commit, and get better.Teaching You to Fish: My desire is to stop just handing out supplements. I want to educate patients on why their bodies react the way they do, so you can navigate your own health.Exclusivity for Better Care: Annual Private memberships limits the patient count to 50 people. This ensures your doctor (me) has the time, energy, and private access to act as your true partner and health coach."I want to be the coach alongside the doctor for you. So, what do these memberships actually look like? In our next two episodes, we are going to break down the exact tiers so you can see where you fit."We want to hear from you! From Patient to Pioneer 6/10: The Hidden Cost of Medications (DIND)
Send your Idea for Next Podcast"Hey everyone, Dr. Nicole here. I want to preface today's episode by saying clearly: I am a chiropractic physician, and it is not in my scope to tell you to get off or start your medications. But I am asking you to be informed. Today we’re talking about DIND, and it might explain those weird new symptoms you've been having."Defining DIND: Drug-Induced Nutrient Depletion (DIND). Common prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs deplete essential vitamins and minerals from the body over time.Misdiagnosed Symptoms: These depletions create a range of new symptoms—like fatigue or muscle cramps—that are often mistaken for brand-new health problems rather than drug side effects. The Statin Example: Statin drugs deplete CoQ10, which can lead to severe muscle issues (myopathy). I know this because of my own genetics, taking a statin drug could be lethal to me.A Widespread Issue: Over 60% of Americans regularly take prescription drugs, with some taking up to 13 to 17 different medications, leading to massive, cascading nutritional deficiencies. My job is to educate you on how to live a quality life. But to truly dig into these deficiencies, it takes time—time that conventional medicine just doesn't allow. Next time, I'm opening up about why I'm changing the way my clinic operates entirely."We want to hear from you! From Patient to Pioneer 5/10: Cracking your DNA Code
Send your Idea for Next Podcast"Hello friends! Have you ever wondered why your friend feels amazing on a certain probiotic, but it does absolutely nothing for you? The secret is hiding in your DNA. Today, we are talking about your genetics, and how knowing your specific 'SNPs' can change your life."Understanding Epigenetics: We have genetic variants that can be turned on or off by our diet and lifestyle. The FUT2 Gene: About 20% of the population is considered a non-secretor, or homozygous for the FUT2 variant. This means you don't produce the sugar needed to feed specific strains of bifidobacteria.A Mother's Breakthrough: Finding out that I am a non-secretor helped me realize my kids might be deficient too. Targeted probiotics are crucial for me daily, and for my children in the first years of life. Personalized Supplementation: Other common genetic factors, like being part of the 5% of the population that desperately needs CoQ10 supplementation for cellular energy and to fight off major fatigue due to another SNP."When you know your genetic SNPs and support them, you directly change your health. But what happens when the things we take to get healthy are actually making us deficient? In our next episode, we have to talk about the hidden cost of medications."We want to hear from you! From Patient to Pioneer 4/10 - The Deficiency Theory
Send your Idea for Next Podcast"Welcome back to The Learning Corner! Today, I want to challenge the way you think about sickness. What if a disease isn't a random attack on your body, but rather a cry for help because your body is missing something? Let's dive into what I call the Deficiency Theory."Redefining Disease: "deficiency" is a shortage of something essential to health, and a "disease" as an abnormal condition. Q: is it accurate that a disease is just caused by an organ failing, or is the organ failing because it lacks something? Treating the Root: Heart palpitations. While conventional medicine might prescribe a drug, the root cause is often simply dehydration or a magnesium deficiency.Vitamin D and Calcium: Bone activity is dependent on calcium, vitamin D and also K2 for its building and breaking down. Why give a drug to do what a mineral can accomplish with out the side effects. The 1% Difference: Explain the spectrum of health. Your body can deal with deficiencies for a long time, but eventually, you cross that 1% threshold from 60% healthy to 59% sick, and a disease is born.Host (Dr. Nicole): "When we make a deficiency sufficient, it starts alleviating symptoms, and pretty soon you're sleeping at night and feeling good again. But how do we know what you're deficient in? That's where your DNA comes in. We’ll cover that in detail next time!"We want to hear from you! From Patient to Pioneer 3/10- The Missing Piece: Functional Medicine
Send your Idea for Next PodcastThe Humbling Moment: Two years into practice, you threw my own back out due to poor ergonomics and lack of exercise. Doctors have to practice what they preach. The Nutritional Gap: 25% to 40% of my patients were getting better with physical treatments, but those with nutritional deficiencies were hitting a wall.Studying Functional Medicine: Over 200-hour Functional Medicine University program and graduating in 2019. It taught me to use food as medicine to push different pathways in the body. The Ultimate Goal: My clinic motto: "I love you, but I don't need to see you in my clinic every day". Send your Idea for Next PodcastBeverly talks about her health journey. Beverly's journey, her testimony with all the ins and outs of choosing the narrow path: diet and lifestyle change. What lifestyle gets you into the symptoms you are experiencing is often what needs to change to get out of those symptoms.Labs talk. Deficiency Theory: Physical Body, Genetic SNPs, DIND, and More!
Send your Idea for Next PodcastDr. Nicole talks about her Deficiency Theory: Breaking this down a different way is what I try to do every day for patients. When we can understand that our body has a specific need of nutrients that is now able to be discovered with genetic testing to see a few SNPs you carry that tell us what your body will most likely do if in a state of stress. Our genetics can tell us how we make or don’t make enzymes in our body. This information then can show us why you need vitamin D 3 supplementation the rest of your life, or probiotics the rest of your life to eliminate the deficiency of low vitamin D and a low amount of certain strain of biota in the gut. Here is a list of ways I have seen deficiency show up in my clinic:Genetic variant expressionabsorptionutilizationLack of nutrient needed in dietusing too much and can’t keep upnot getting enough in generalMedication induced deficiencyToo much of a nutrient in dietOver consumptionUnder utilizationover supplementationWhen we talk about the reasons why we are depleted, we always have at least two causes. It’s like money. If you want to save money for something you have two options, cut down spending, or make more and don’t spend more. The body is similar. When we know our trends, symptoms, genetic variants, and current health. Discovering your deficiencies are simple. It is a mind set, look at your health through the eyes of this theory. Why "Private Membership" Clinic - with Dr. Nicole
Send your Idea for Next Podcast The Future of Preventative Care is a MembershipTraditional healthcare operates on a reactive, “pay as you go” model: you get sick, you make an appointment, you pay for the visit. This system inherently focuses on treating problems after they arise. Dr. Klersy-Mohr’s clinic flips this model on its head with a private membership.Instead of paying for individual appointments when you’re unwell, this structure creates a continuous partnership focused on keeping you healthy. The memberships offered at Perfect Touch include comprehensive services designed for prevention and optimization, such as:Comprehensive annual lab panels that check over 67 different markers to get a deep understanding of your health.DEXA scans to monitor body composition and bone density.Unlimited secure messaging with your physician for ongoing support and questions.Included bodywork, like chiropractic adjustments or medical massage, as part of your wellness plan. This shift is crucial because it reframes healthcare from a reactive service to a proactive investment. Your physician becomes a long-term partner dedicated to preserving your health, not just an emergency contact for when it fails. The First Goal is Health, Not MedicationPerhaps the most profound shift is in the fundamental goal of care. In a functional, restorative approach, the primary objective is to find and fix the root cause of a health issue, empowering the body to heal itself. The first instinct isn’t to reach for a prescription pad. This philosophy is the core mission of practitioners like Dr. Nicole Klersy-Mohr, who states:The passion lies in serving and educating her patients. She excels in empowering her patients to achieve better health, alleviating their pain, and helping them return to an active life—all without relying on drugs or surgery. For a patient, this is a powerful difference. It means having a doctor whose first question is “Why is this happening and how can we restore function?” rather than “What pill can I prescribe for this symptom?” It’s a commitment to building true health from the inside out.A New Definition of HealthThese four ideas—a chiropractor as your primary doctor, DNA-driven nutrition, membership-based care, and a drug-free-first philosophy—are redefining what it means to be healthy. As demonstrated by the pioneering work of Dr. Klersy-Mohr, they represent a move away from simply managing disease and toward a new standard of personalized, data-driven, and proactive wellness. This approach empowers you to become an active participant in your health journey, with a dedicated partner to guide you.It leaves us with one final, important question to consider: What could you achieve if your healthcare was designed to build health, not just manage disease?MembershipsSchedule your 15 Minute Complimentary Discovery CallWe want to hear from you! Rethinking Your Doctor: 4 Game-Changing Ideas in Modern Wellness
Send your Idea for Next PodcastMany of us have felt it: the frustration of a healthcare system that can feel impersonal and reactive. You wait for an appointment, spend a few minutes with a doctor, and often leave with a prescription designed to manage a symptom rather than a plan to address the root cause. It can feel like you're just another number in a system that's more focused on treating disease than building genuine, resilient health. But what if your primary care came from a clinic focused on finding that root cause? We looked at the model used by Dr. Nicole Klersy-Mohr—a Chiropractic Physician, Functional Medicine Practitioner, and board-eligible chiropractic neurologist at Perfect Touch Massage & Chiropractic—to uncover four surprising truths about this new approach to health. Her model is personalized, proactive, and dedicated to restoring the body's natural function without an immediate jump to medications or surgery. This shift in thinking introduces some powerful—and surprising—ideas about what healthcare can be. Here are four of the most impactful concepts from this modern approach that could change how you think about your health forever.1. Your Chiropractor Can Be Your Primary Care PhysicianWhen you think of a chiropractor, you probably think of adjustments for back and neck pain. While that is a key part of their work, the scope of a chiropractic physician can be significantly broader. In fact, in the USA, chiropractic medicine is the third-largest primary healthcare profession, outnumbered only by medical doctors and dentists.2. Your DNA Can Create Your Perfect DietWe’re constantly bombarded with conflicting advice about the "best" diet—low-carb, low-fat, plant-based, paleo. The truth is, the best diet is not one-size-fits-all; it's the one that works for your unique body. At innovative clinics like Perfect Touch, the field of "Genetic Specific Nutrition" makes this possible.3. The Future of Preventative Care is a MembershipThis shift is crucial because it reframes healthcare from a reactive service to a proactive investment. Your physician becomes a long-term partner dedicated to preserving your health, not just an emergency contact for when it fails.4. The First Goal is Health, Not MedicationThis philosophy is the core mission of practitioners like Dr. Nicole Klersy-Mohr, who states:The passion lies in serving and educating her patients. She excels in empowering her patients to achieve better health, alleviating their pain, and helping them return to an active life—all without relying on drugs or surgery. For a patient, this is a powerful difference. Vitamin D & Other Nutrients
Send your Idea for Next PodcastDeficiency Theory: When we are deficient in something we have symptoms or a disease that shows up. It's that simple. Our Genes Lead the Way: Low to moderate penetrance SNPs associated with vitamin D deficiency include variants in the VDR gene, CYP2R1 gene, GC gene. These SNPs can affect vitamin D receptor function, hydroxylation, binding protein levels, and enzyme activities involved in vitamin D metabolism. Additionally, some SNPs may have a positive effect on vitamin D status, such as variants in the GC gene, which can increase vitamin D-binding protein levels and enzyme activity, respectively.Nutrient deficiencies, beyond vitamin D, can also lead to various diseases and chronic or acute illnesses. For example, vitamin B12 deficiency can cause anemia and neurological problems, while iron deficiency can lead to anemia and impaired cognitive function. Other nutrient deficiencies, such as vitamin A, vitamin C, folate, iodine, zinc, magnesium, and calcium, can result in conditions like night blindness, scurvy, neural tube defects, goiter, impaired immune function, muscle cramps, and osteoporosis. Low to moderate penetrance SNPs associated with these deficiencies include variants in genes like FUT2, MTRR, HFE, SLC23A1, SLC23A2, MTHFR, and TRPM6. These SNPs can affect nutrient absorption, transport, metabolism, and receptor function, contributing to the development of deficiency-related conditions. The relationship between nutrient deficiencies and genetic variants is complex and influenced by various factors, including diet, sun exposure, and overall health status. While some SNPs have a low to moderate penetrance and may only slightly increase the risk of deficiency or related conditions, others may have a more significant impact. Genetic testing can help identify these variants, but personalized management strategies should be developed in consultation with a healthcare provider. Addressing nutrient deficiencies often involves dietary changes, supplements, and lifestyle modifications tailored to the individual's genetic profile and health needs. We want to hear from you!
