The Life of Hypersensitivosaurus - Sharing the Imperfect Creative Process

A podcast on creativity, where I aim to share the chaotic, unpredictable and natural creative process and all its baby steps, in as honest and imperfect a way as possible - as the creative process is pretty much neverending and sharing it without glorifying things still seems to be far from common.

Lost my Phone on a Bike Ride aka Making Friends When You're 40+

I am back again with a different kind of format. Some 'bathtub' storytelling, (as if I'm) talking to a friend, sharing about a somewhat adventurous afternoon, where I lost my phone. Enjoy! And if you like it, tell a friend.

The Other Monsters ( drowning in their sorrow )

I am sharing yet another fragment of my unique creative process, talking about some inspiration that came to me, yesterday night, in bed... Let's see if I can stick with this new format ;^) I also dusted off my ukulele, tuned it and recorded some seconds of string walking. To Be Convinued...

The Monster of Disco is Back and so are The Other Monsters

I guess I'm back. It has been a while. Life took over, we changed years, I traveled for almost a month and moved house. Then, recently, after finding myself in the countryside again, where I stare at the green and blue of nature on a daily basis, right from my veranda, my creativity came back to me at full force. I have to share it with you all, or I will go crazy or possibly explode. I'm sure you understand. It's time to share my ever surprising (as much for me as for you) creative process with the world, once again. Update on My Book Writing plus some talk about ( getting back to ) filmmaking

It was about time to update you on my creative process and I also share about talking about filmmaking with a friend with whom I recently started playing tennis. He is a filmmaker and I used to be one. Both of us studied film. I recently watched a short film and talking about this re-awakens my passion for this medium. Time will tell what this leads to...

I am Back, with 'The Monster of Disco'!

Days ago, I got inspired to write another book. I will call it 'The Monster of Disco'. Today I talk a little about the story behind it.

    Clare(artista) on Life-Work Balance

My good friend Clare is back on the podcast, this time to talk about the so called 'Life-Work Balance', as seen from the perspective of a fulltime artist/ creative with decades of experience in this area. I myself listened to her message several times and felt like sharing it with you unedited. One day soon, I will likely come up with a reply of my own, as it was me telling her that I needed time getting back into creative mode, after 'too much' time spent socializing ;^) Its a fine line to walk and I'm a Libra, always trying to balance everything... A Conversation with Clare about creativity and, especially, the book creation process, up till the point where we finally reach the reader - Part 1

Today, I bring you a very special podcast and not just because of the waterfall background soundtrack ;<) It took me 3 and a half months, but I finally managed to get a guest on: a dear friend and a highly creative one - someone who is pretty much breathing art and has done so for a huge part of her life. Clare is a woman from Scotland, who has been living in Italy for almost 15 years. I had wanted to have her on the show for quite some time now, but today we finally found a way that fits both of us and on a topic that is close to our heart. I basically recorded a voice message to her, ( as we tend to do almost daily, at this moment in time ) and she replied to it ( aware of the fact that I would share this in my podcast ). Clare is a great storyteller ( not a summarizer, I can relate ) and tends to share personal stories in a beautiful way. You gotta love her voice too. I sure do. This episode actually starts with me talking about what I call the 'Post Printing Process' of my book, where I am basically selling, handing out and sending out my books, one physical copy at a time. I am showing and sharing it with people that I bump into, or those who have been following my creative process online in the last couple of years, via my blog: https://peakd.com/@vincentnijman/posts I won't tell you what Clare's story is about ( you will have to listen to the full episode ) but I can share with you that she has similar thoughts and feelings about the distribution process of art/ our creative work and our conversations - not just between the two of us but also with others in a weekly Co-Creation session that Clare hosts - help us unlocking doors and unblocking parts of us that have been (b)locked for quite some time. It feels amazing and I am pleasantly surprised about it's unfolding on an almost daily basis. I hope you enjoy this episode and am pretty sure that this is just a part of something way bigger and a conversation that will be continued. Clare and I have a lot more to say. Going Full Circle - Back to making ( dino ) games, after 3.5 years

Today I talk about my move back into game making, using the same tool I used back in 2019, when I invented the Hypersensitivosaurus character. Back then, HS was the main character of two mini games, months before he became a character in a never finished novel. The rest is history ;^) game making tool: bitsy More on it in my recent blog posts: https://peakd.com/hive-186308/@vincentnijman/time-to-gamify-my-storytelling-creating-a-minigame-that-doubles-as-a-website-to-promote-my-books and https://peakd.com/hive-186308/@vincentnijman/time-to-gamify-my-storytelling-part-2 If you like what I do, you can further support me on: https://ko-fi.com/Hypersensitivosaurus Thank you! :^) and

On Deep Thinking and Doing Less to Become More Creative

A different kind of episode, for a change. Today I felt like talking about a realization that I had, as of late, as I'm getting more and more into philosoraptor mode. This time I give you a 'walkie talkie' on the importance of deep thinking and having a dialogue with fellow artists/ creatives to keep the creativity flowing and do the real important work. Be prepared for me to not be the only voice on this podcast, in the sooniverse.

Getting closer to organizing the first Movie Night in a nearby creative space

Today I talk about getting back on track with organizing movie nights. The hardest part starts now: selecting a movie from the 5000+ films that I have seen in my life ;<) https://ko-fi.com/hypersensitivosaurus

  11. 20

I'm back! Finished ( a first version of) my book and kind of forgot to mention it...

I returned from a two week trip to The Netherlands Today I share some thoughts on finishing my books, two weeks ago. I also talk about the three C's: my Creative process, Coffee and Cats.

Friendly Feedback - On 'Guests' on My Show

A friend reached out to me with some encouraging feedback on my podcast and as I was on a walk, at a spot near the river ( see picture ) where I've recorded several episodes, I decided to record a new episode, while text chatting with him, thereby adding some sort of LIVE element. He has his own podcast ( even interviewed me on creativity/ the creative struggle ) that is titled Untangled Knots, where he talks with friends from all over the world on all kinds of topics. Highly recommended! Oh and if you'd like to support me, I welcome gifts in the form of symbolic coffee ( a nice boost to keep the juices flowing ): https://ko-fi.com/Hypersensitivosaurus Thank you! :^)

On the Importance of Not Creating during the Creative Process

Today, while on a walk, I talk about it being okay to not create, at times, about the importance of not forcing the creative process ( for me ). I also share about having done a similar thing, yesterday, while being on a 'Co-Creation' video call with three fellow creators. The four of us shared stories about our creative process, talked about art and life and so much more. And, all the while, they created and I did not create anything ;>) but it led to some new ideas. This is yet another insight in my unpredictable and always (im)perfectly chaotic creative process and another update on the progress I'm making with my book 'Hypersensitivosaurus and Cold Turkey', a book that I aim to 'finish' in the next 7 days for my mom's 70th birthday. It would be awesome if you'd support me on my neverending and predictably impredictable, creative journey. You can buy me a symbolical 'coffee' on my Ko-Fi page https://ko-fi.com/hypersensitivosaurus I also share my creative process ( in text and visuals ) on my blog: https://peakd.com/@vincentnijman/posts

  14. 17

    168 Hours Later

Today I am treating you to a unique little intro song thingy with uke music improv and I talk about the progress on my soon to be finished book 'Hypersensitivosaurus and Cold Turkey and a little bit about my everchanging 'relationship' with coffee...

End Jokes - On Editing my Book and Adding Jokes in the Endnotes

I am really in the flow again with editing my book and, all of a sudden, April the 21st feels like an easy goal to make. Today I talk a little about the editing process, on yet another change of mind on ( not ) using illustrations and on having fun with endnotes.

  16. 15

I had a 'Eureka!' moment - Making a Book without Illustrations

I talk about a creative insight I had, this afternoon, a change in my creative process, that makes a lot of sense.

  17. 14

Baby Steps - It's okay to slow down

On slowing down the creative process and not feeling bad about it, eventhough I recently set a goal to ( try and ) finish my book and it's not far away.

  18. 13

Morning Mood - The Creative Struggle, taking baby steps.

I recorded this one at the river, just after breakfast ( that tasted like soap ). I am now one week without coffee and it hasn't been easy. Life is still an emotional mental and physical rollercoaster. I am sure many of you can relate. Not much happening on the creative front but I'll keep taking baby steps, trying not to be too hard on myself. Hope you like the little perfectly imperfect ukulele intro and outro that I added. To Be Convinued...

  19. 12

Hypersensitivosaurus Goes Cold Turkey - Again

Three days ago, after falling sick, I decided to quit coffee ( not for the first time ). And, being the sensitive creature that I am, I went through some serious withdrawal symptoms. A similar situation, two and a half years ago, made me invent a character called 'Cold Turkey', who became one of the main characters in my Hypersensitivosaurus stories and, later, the co star of the upcoming 'Hypersensitivosaurus and Cold Turkey'. Today I finally felt quite a lot better and that led to this free flow podcast where I don't talk much about the creative process at all but more about the 'Life of ( the inspiration behind ) Hypersensitivosaurus' aka me ;<) If you like to read too and you aren't already following my blog, here's a that I wrote at the end of 2021 with more info on the 'Cold Turkey' character and some links to previous write ups: https://peakd.com/@vincentnijman/how-to--not--write-a-book-the-story-behind-hypersensitivosaurus-part-1-cold-turkey Thank you for listening and if you're using Fountain to receive my message to your airwaves and you find my content valuable, I much appreciate a boost and or comment :<) TO BE CONVINUED...

Reminiscing over a Film Project from the Past - Island of Carnage

An old friend, with whom I used to collaborate on film projects, got back in touch with a sort of spin off from a story for a never finished feature film project. Read ( more about ) 'Island of Carnage here: https://forum.choiceofgames.com/t/island-of-carnage-hosted-games-beta-test/133061 Read ( more about and play ) the text only 'Island of Carnage' here: https://forum.choiceofgames.com/t/island-of-carnage-hosted-games-beta-test/133061

  21. 10

On the importance of sharing The Creative Process and ( encouraging ) feedback.

I talk about the creative process of Hypersensitivosaurus and Cold Turkey and the moments I shared the story with others and give an update on my current process. I also mention a friend whose podcast Untangled Knots can be found here: https://open.spotify.com/episode/7IKv5DwarHBTFmRsP9rQTF?si=Ef5UL2hzQDORAHlxoNC9xA He even added an episode where he is interviewing me about the creative process ;^)

  22. 9

Will I become a film teacher, once again? Can I do this?

I used to be a filmmaker, but the last project ended over 4 years ago, it was one of many cancelled projects. I also used to be a film teacher, several times, teaching people from all kinds of ages. Today, my twin sister asked me whether I want to teach some school kids ( including my own niece and nephew ) filmmaking. It triggered a trauma, connected to film teaching experiences from the past and I decided to talk about it with you all and get it off my chest.

  23. 8

Not Feeling it today and that's Okay - (on) the Struggling Creative

Just one of those days. Those that we often don't share about with others. But hey, I'm not the 'small talk' type and just talking about it, instead of staying quiet, already makes me feel better :^)

  24. 7

Will I start hosting movie nights in my town?

I talk about today's meetup with a fellow former filmmaker, the possibility of hosting movie nights at a nearby creative space, editing my book, lino carving, burning art/ letting go and the first bit of feedback on my podcast. I am looking forward to interacting even more with my audience, so feel free to reach out ;^)

  25. 6

talking some more about the monster of perfectionism trying to talk me out of this project

On how I creatively slay the monster of perfectionism and go with the flow, following my intuition.

  28. 3

Reading the first scene of my upcoming book 'Hypersensitivosaurus and Cold Turkey'

Reading the beginning of my book, sharing some backstory and explaining the reason behind this podcast and its format.

On this voice called 'resistance', that tries to stop me/ us from actually being ourselves and kills creativity.
