The Narrowing Path: Walking the Spiritual Walk

This is the first half of the first chapter called "The Contrast" In Henry Drummonds book, The Greatest Thing in the World! The last step in the Discipline of Inclination and the last step that James Allen gives us in the chapter First Steps in the Higher Life from the book Out From the Heart! Unlimited Forgiveness to all people, for all things, at all times! A steep order for many today, but we need to let the resentments and sense of injury we take go! That is the only way to continue to grow!

We are on Step 9 from James Allen's First Steps in the Higher Life! We are discussing Unswerving Rectitude! Dedication to a life of Integrity, Honesty, and Truth in an integral and vital part of our Spiritual journeys. Do not forget that everything matters, and practice - practice - practice!

This is the first step in the last lesson that James Allen gives us! These are Virtues to practice and the first is Unselfish Performance of Duty! Of ALL Duty! Invite our duty in as a responsibility to be perform instead of a burden to endure!

This is the final step in the second lesson James Allen gives us in the book Out From the Heart! The Disciplines of the Tongue have been eye opening and this one is one that is crucial to moving forward. To change from arguing for the sake of argument to purposeful and good faith disagreement in the pursuit of Truth is the direction we need to take!

We are at James Allen's 6th step overall but his 4th in the Discipline of our Speech! We talked about Levity and Irreverent Speech and their importance when we are pursuing a Virtuous and Truthful life! This lets us be better friends, better company, and have better conversation!

Step 5 is about that desire we get to be mean and insulting towards one another! It is never an appropriate to be calling names and to be malicious with our words, and try to evoke a negative emotions from others. Our speech should ALWAYS be Useful, Necessary, Pure, and True!

Gossip and Idle Conversation are the topic of the next step in James Allen's path to a Higher Life and Spiritual Growth! This is a staple of todays entertainment and has become the common style of conversation we have with people from day to day. Take a listen and find out how we should carry ourselves, and our words!

We are now talking about the Vices of Tongue and the Discipline of Speech! The 3rd step suggested by Allen is to address the vicious practice of Slander! It fosters a selfish, insincere, cruel, and untrustworthy heart and character and essential to remove to make Spiritual progress!

This is step 2 and the last step of the discipline of the body in James Allen's book, Out From The Heart! This step goes into a problem much of the western world still struggles with and the gluttonous behaviors behind it! Lets fix this relationship we have with food!

Vanity and Pride are two of the most destructive things in our society today, temping us to feel like we need more or we are less than. Changing your beliefs lets you change your life!

A powerful couple of paragraphs or letting go of hatred and resentment, and what those are comprised of. It includes all ill-thoughts and ill-words the come from within us. Hear about the destructive power of hatred to our souls and how it blocks out all goodness and Love!

Letting go of covetousness was something I didn't know that I had to do! James Allen talks about how attachment to these possessions and material things causes us so much unhappiness! Learn to detach and be a custodian of the material to help facilitate God's will!

This part of this chapter has been one of the most powerful things I have ever read, and has a profound impact on my daily life! Freeing yourself from Self-Assertion and demanding that people accept and abide by your opinion is no way to live well! Listen and decide for yourself!

A reading about getting rid of our own selfish indulgences! We talk about how these actually distract us from the direction we need to be taking, and that escaping our reality, actually robs us of the ability to find truth! The more we know to more we can let go!

This is an incredible couple of paragraphs about the danger of allowing yourself to be dominated by impatience and irritability! We talk about how it never actually accomplishes anything, and then what we actually want to do to move forward. A great reading about how we push ourselves away from peace and serenity, and to have any chance of obtaining them we have to give up impatience!

This is the first behaviors that James Allen highlights in the this chapter that should be "offered up" and sacrificed to find blessedness is one's life. We go into why we do it, why it is dangerous, why we shouldn't do it, and what we should do instead!

This reading is about why these upcoming sacrifices are essential, and why our spiritual growth lies on the other side of sacrifice, pain, responsibility, and service! Letting go of our old ideas and behaviors is no easy task, but the results after we go through the process are near impossible to describe! Great start to the chapter and gives us a great foundation of why this work is essential to do a move through!
