This week on The Opposition, Kevin sits down with California Assemblymember Isaac G. Bryan to discuss the fight for Prop 50, fighting against systems of oppression, community organizing, and what lessons the Democrats need to learn. Assemblymember Isaac G. Bryan is a leading progressive voice in the California State Assembly and currently represents the 55th District. Before joining the legislature, he was the founding director of UCLA’s Black Policy Project, where he focused on policy research and advocacy around racial and economic justice. Bryan played a pivotal role as co-chair of the successful Measure J campaign in 2020, a landmark Los Angeles County ballot initiative that directed hundreds of millions in county funds each year toward community investments and alternatives to incarceration.In the Assembly, Bryan serves as Chair of the Committee on Natural Resources and the Select Committee on Poverty and Economic Inclusion, and Vice Chair of the California Legislative Black Caucus. His legislative work addresses issues spanning climate justice, environmental reforms, criminal justice, and support for marginalized communities.
