The Outliers

The show has necessarily taken a turn towards things that are more urgent, more important than the usual schtick we peddle. It reflects where our heads and our hearts are. Things like video game news pale in comparison to what we believe could be a moment in time that marks a true beginning for long overdue change in the country we live in, and indeed around the world. 

Our most sincere condolences to the Floyd family. Black lives matter. And George Floyd's life mattered. We urge others with platforms and far reaching voices to speak out against the systemic racism that is killing black people in America.

Quarantining inside while it seems the outside is crumbling. But hey, there are still video games.

Been doing lots! Some Resident Evil 3 Remake, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Valorant, some Twitch drama... video game stuff and trying to find animation to watch like The Kirlian Frequency. What kind of show could Warhammer 40K make for?

Still staying inside and still recording. This week we have a great Resident Evil 3 Remake assessment as well as a breakdown of the Resident Evil timeline to see where it fits in. Still stuck at home so we are getting hyped for some upcoming video games like Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Resident Evil 3 Remake, checked out the Sonic the Hedgehog movie, comparing The Witcher video game to the show, and will PS5 and Xbox Series X launches be affected by current state of affairs. Stay inside and stay healthy everyone!

Things are kinda crazy because of the virus. But we're still recording. And this one is definitely all over the place. But we do get into some video game stuff towards the end with Sakura Wars and Mortal Kombat 11. Have fun with it. We'll be back...

We're all over the place this time around with complaints about Harley Quinn cartoons, what the WWE did to The Fiend, and a few other things. But never fear! It wouldn't be complete without a little Marvel MCU news... in the X-Men casting corner of the universe. And for all the fighting game players out there: Do you choose your fighter based on character tier lists something else? Tier lists are in the spotlight this week and how useful or useless they actually are.

The shadow of the bat looms large once again in the media... so we have an all Batman show to kick it off. What is your ideal Batman like? Does he kill? What kind of batsuit does he wear? And his car? Flashy? Streamlined? We are giving our answers to all these questions and more this week. 

Ok kids we almost lost this episode to technical difficulties. But it was salvaged. So keep that in mind if ya hear some pops and fades... On the menu this week: Delayed video games, some Shenmue 3 impressions, streamers and their influence on smaller games, then we close out with some good ol' Marvel MCU stuff and whats going on with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

We are back! And officially kicking off 2020 with one hell of a show! Last week we weren't able to post an episode because of some serious health issues going on with one half of the team. And we do apologize for that. First time in 150 episodes! This week we're making up for time lost with a huge show starting off with Jay and Silent Bob Reboot Roadshow recap, a dive into CES tech and Alienware's Concept UFO and some new Samsung Galaxy S20 details, and we wrap with some long overdue impressions and take ways from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

The holidays are just about over and it's time to bring in the new year! We have a unique list of 2019 things that left an impression on us, a look at some of the greatest anime over the last decade or so, and we wrap it up with the story of Chelsea FC's road to the 2012 UEFA Champions League Final. Happy Holidays everyone! It's gonna be a throwback week to some more classic Fanmob content. Going through some old files and found this DC Animation gem with our former co-host Jumma Jahdid. We're covering Wonder Woman, Batman, Justie League, Aquaman, and all sorts of great animated superhero movies. This was our 3rd podcast episode we ever recorded from back in 2012, so the audio quality is not the same as our usual stuff, but it is more listenable and is definitely very informative blast from the past!

This weeks episode is a great discussion on representation in media. We focus on video games and go from there. Unfortunately we had a serious snafu and had to cut the episode shorter than usual. Still, this one is some good stuff.

While everyone is on candy overload from Halloween we're over here celebrating The Fiend's big win at Crown Jewel! Following up with our last episode we pick up with the conclusion of WWE's Crown Jewel event and discuss the aftermath. Lots of gaming news in the back half of the show with Death Stranding reviews, Telltale's The Walking Dead, Red Dead Redemption 2 coming to PC, and more. Wondering what is up with Deadspin and Kotaku? We are too. So we got you covered!

Happy Halloween everyone! We're bringing you some local scares this week with San Jose's most haunted places just in time for All Hallows Eve. And in keeping with the fright night theme we take a deep dive into the WWE's immortal slasher The Fiend! Will Seth Rollins pull it off and end The Fiend once and for all at Crown Jewel? It's time to break it all down with The Knowledge as the anticipation builds for their next match!

Both Outliers have seen Joker and the verdict is in: GUILTY. Of what you ask? Find out on this weeks almost-swallowed-up-by-Skype episode! Since it's the spooky season we have a festive rec in the offerings up front in the form of #inktober. So many great artists are producing amazing art for the yearly art challenge and we are there to see it all. Couldn't get by without mentioning Blizzard and the recent mess they are in. Its also the beginning of the fall anime season too! So much goodness to cover during fall, don't miss it!

We're starting the scary season off early this year! This week's episode started off with a couple offerings that were... seasonally appropriate. But we ended up recording an hour long, in depth discussion on the horror movie genre and where so many of the movies you love fit in to that broad swath of fear based entertainment. It's all about scary movies, books, Junji Ito manga and more. 

With one of the Outliers out of town getting some ink done we are happy to bring you another classic Fanmob episode with special guest Sean Brown! Who is that, you might ask. Back when we were doing Fanmob our cohost Jumma Jahdid brought in a friend to discuss some gaming topics such as PC or console, Xbox One, and lots of other video game related stuff. I'm sure there is some comics talk in there too. I think the actual Age of Ultron comic was wrapping up at the time. So enjoy this throw back and we'll see you next week! 

It has been awhile since we have mentioned anything Doctor Who related. So this week we're taking a look at a classic Doctor Who serial from the 1970's featuring the original 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Doctors: The Three Doctors. This four part story opened the shows 10th season during the 3rd Doctor's run. Lots of milestones and some behind the scenes information on the story and how it came about. As always we have some current news for you too: PewDiePie, Rooster Teeth, and Loot Crate. We're gonna find out what they're all up to.

Last week we talked about glitches in the matrix of life and this week we're dealing with what appears to be an actual real life hack that may have been perpetrated against one of us. Oh the irony in that! So we have a personal rant that some of you might learn something from right up front. After we cool down we talk some TV: Carnival Row and 13 Reasons Why. Then we get HYPED for what we're considering the next big super.... villain movie: JOKER.

We're back from the depths of the internet with a jam packed episode covering the latest pop culture news: New Marvel TV shows, say bye to Spider-Man, Cyberpunk 2077 changes, Funimation voice actors behaving badly, and more. Then we put on our lab coats and try to figure out if we're living in a simulated universe and whats with all the strange everyday happenings. We get into some real high end science folks, so if you can decipher this stuff better than we did feel free to provide feedback!

It's that time of year again... Silicon Valley Comic Con 2019 is happening and half of the Outliers made it to the show, as usual. We bring you this years SVCC experience. Then we get into some serious allegations that surfaced after this years Evo pro gaming tournament, a little Borderlands 3 news, indie dev studio Unfold Games declines Epic's exclusivity offer, and even more gaming news out of the FGC after a Smash Bros character is banned from tournamanet play. We're getting to the nuts and bolts of these issues, so put your news anchor blazers on folks, because this week's full of it.

Ok everyone, even though we said no episode this week we have another intermission episode to hold you over until we get back behind the mics. We're celebrating Superman this week with another classic throwback episode to our old Fanmob podcast. Its that time of year again: E3 is happening and video game news will be dropping all this week. We have a bunch of things we'd like to see and Adam is running down the most hyped up games that might make news. Also have a follow up for last week's debate about the DC Universe streaming service following the premier and cancellation of Swamp Thing. Spoiler: It is not looking good for DC Universe. Back before there was The Outliers there was The Fanmob Podcast. We had a previous endeavor back in 2012-2013 that produced some really good content. Part of that content was an interview with a local comic book shop owner named Phil Schlaefer. His business, Comic Collector Shop in Sunnyvale, California welcomed your humble hosts in for a live interview with the man himself, Mr. Phil Schlaefer. We covered a lot of ground, from digital comics and the impact they have had on sales to comic con experiences to Phil's personal collections and his history as a comic shop owner in the bay area! Slow news week as far as we were concerned so this was a light episode. We have some amazing deep sea science for you to go check out from the folks conducting the Five Deeps Expedition. There was a bit of movie theater drama that we had to deal with in the real world. Then we get into a meta discussion on us getting our shit together to start streaming on Twitch. And of course we had to mention the public dumpster fire that one YouTuber has made for himself. 

Now that Endgame is old news its time to get back to all the juicy new video game stuff that's happening. Mortal Kombat 11 just dropped... and of course, in classic 2019 fashion, there is drama already. Plus: Ubisoft is still bringing it with For Honor and all the holiday surprises and the Star Wars Day content did not disappoint. And we close out with a discussion on Rick Fox and his future with Echo Fox.
