Why "Strong & Capable" is a Trap + The Real Cost of Doing It All

You can’t outwork a storm, and you aren’t a machine. In this episode, I’m getting incredibly honest about a "Logic Trap" that nearly cost me my business and my peace of mind. We often believe that if we’re strong enough, we should be able to handle every family crisis and business demand without skipping a beat. But I recently hit a wall that left me in tears at my favorite cafe, realizing that even when you’re doing the "right" thing, it still takes a massive toll on your energy. I’m sharing the physical warning signs I ignored—like the "Frozen Shoulder Effect"—and how I had to have a raw, difficult conversation with my wife, Crystal, to save my dreams. We’re talking about why we "numb out" on our phones when we're overwhelmed and how a simple pattern interrupt can give you your perspective back. In This Episode:(00:59) - Why we’re actually stressed (Hint: It isn’t disorganization). (03:52) - The Campfire Analogy: What happens when you run out of wood in a blizzard. The "Just One Peek" Tax: Why your silence is so loud

Stop paying the hidden fee on your attention that is leaving you absolutely bankrupt this Easter break.Every guru and "wellness" influencer tells you the secret to peace is turning off your notifications. But what happens when silence becomes louder than the pings? In this episode, I’m getting "unfancy" about my own struggle with the Manual Check Loop—that twitchy impulse to refresh your apps even when your phone is silent. We’ve been sold the lie that staying busy is a personality trait, creating a Stealth Hustle Syndrome where we are physically at the park with our families but mentally composing emails in our heads.I’m breaking down the science of the "Just One Peek" Tax and why that three-second escape into Instagram actually costs you 23 minutes of deep focus. If you’ve felt like a failure for not mastering "digital minimalism," this is your permission slip to stop fighting your brain and start using friction to find your humanity again. In This Episode:(00:03) - The "Success Never Sleeps" Lie: Why hustle culture is a trap.(05:27) - Paying the "Just One Peek" Tax: The drain on your "Boss Energy".(08:55) - The Lesser of Two Evils: Why I turned my notifications back on.(11:32) - The 23-Minute Rule: The science of Attention Residue.(13:09) - Breaking the Trance: Using Paced as a pattern interrupt.(17:24) - Recap & Your Weekly Challenge.Resources Mentioned:RhondaLavoie.com The Paced App University of California Research on Attention Residue This Week's Challenge:Take a 2-Hour Digital Break today. In this episode, I’m sharing a very raw, personal story about a recent "shivering fit" that I tried to bargain away as a torn rotator cuff—only to realize it was a total nervous system collapse. We’re diving into the reality of Toxic Discipline—the voice that tells you to "push through" even when your eyes are blurry and your body is screaming. Your mission is bigger than a stranger's "big ass" forehead comment.Have you ever had a moment that made you want to pull the plug on your big dreams? This week, I’m getting raw about the "cheap seat" remarks I received after putting myself out there on video—comments that weren't about my business, but about my appearance. I turned 50 today. The world says it’s time to wind down. I say it’s time to build an empire.I turned 50 today. The world has a script for this milestone: look for golf courses, slow down, and fade into the background. But I realized that I couldn't survive the next decade of my career if I followed that script. I needed to pivot. In this special bonus episode, I’m pulling back the curtain on the "double life" I’ve been living this month. By day, I’m a Real Estate Agent in Saskatoon. By night (and early morning), I’ve been battling with code, fighting with the Google Play Store, and revisiting my past life as an SAP Analyst to launch a brand new app. This isn't a polished success story; it's the gritty reality of becoming a beginner again at 50. Stuck in Analysis Paralysis? Why You Need to Stop Being "Relentless" | The Rhonda Lavoie Podcast Ep10

Have you ever had a "What If" idea that you immediately killed with "How?"How could I possibly start that business? How could I write a book? How would I find the time? That "how" is just overwhelm in disguise. It traps us in analysis paralysis, often leading us right back to the "mind-numbing pit" of doomscrolling to escape the pressure. In this episode, I’m sharing the origin story of the Paced App. It wasn’t a lightning strike moment, and it wasn't a result of a relentless, sleepless hustle. The truth? I sat on the idea for six months. And that gap wasn't a failure—it was marinating.Join me as I break down how a random podcast episode and a $6 coffee helped me stop worrying about the "how" and simply get curious. We’ll talk about why you don’t need a five-year plan to start, and how shifting your mindset from "relentless" to "curious" can finally help you get out of your own way.Tired of losing hours to the scroll? Let's be honest: this isn't a personal failure or a lack of willpower. It's a system designed to work against you, based on a "dopamine loop" that keeps you hooked. In this episode, Rhonda shares her "aha moment" about phone notifications and gives you the simple, "unfancy" 3-step system she used to take back control. This is the "Notification Detox". Dealing With Judgement (Part 2): Forging Your Armor | The Rhonda Lavoie Podcast Ep. 8

Let's be honest: criticism stings. We're wired for connection, so the fear of being judged is a powerful (and totally human) trigger. How often does that feeling make you "just check your phone for a minute," only to look up 45 minutes later wondering where the time went? You're not scrolling because you lack willpower; you're scrolling to escape a feeling. That's a normal response, not a personal failing. In this episode (Part 2 of our series on judgment), we move from the "them problem" to the practical fix: Forging Your Armor. I'll share Dr. Brené Brown's "arena" strategy and explain why you must stop taking feedback from people in the "cheap seats". We'll build a complete system to build real resilience, including how to identify your "Success Squad" and implement three daily skills: adopting a growth mindset , using the "Tuesday Rule" for self-compassion , and a simple CBT tool to finally silence your inner critic.Tired of this feeling? TUF Unfiltered: Why I Closed My Brokerage (And Why You Shouldn't Open One)

Hey everyone, Rhonda Lavoie here. Welcome back to TUF Coffee Shop Talk Unfiltered! Have you ever dreamed of opening your own real estate brokerage? Maybe you think it's the ultimate sign of success or the key to bigger profits . I used to think that too when I opened The Urban Farmhouse Realty . In this raw, unfiltered episode, I'm pulling back the curtain on why starting your own brokerage might be one of the biggest mistakes you could make. I'll share the hard lessons I learned, the real costs that go way beyond commission splits (think insurance, tech, marketing, and your time!), and why competing with the big players is tougher than you imagine . I get honest about why I ultimately closed my shop and found a better path to building my brand, making more money, and finding more happiness by leveraging the power of a larger company like eXp . If you're considering going independent, you need to hear this first. Learn from my journey before you take the leap! Timestamped Key Points:[0:26] Thinking about opening your own brokerage? [1:20] My story[2:07] Common reasons agents want to open their own brokerage (saving money, branding, control).[3:57] The #1 myth busted: Opening your own brokerage does NOT save you money.[4:20] The hidden costs: Insurance, licensing, dues, staff, tech, marketing, legal fees, and your TIME.[5:44] Why competing with big brokerages on tech, training, and support is nearly impossible for a small shop.[6:04] Example: The extensive (and expensive) tech suite provided by EXP that's unaffordable for most boutiques.[6:51] The challenge of providing adequate training, support, and lead gen as a small brokerage owner.[8:55] A better alternative: Building your team and personal brand under a larger franchise umbrella like EXP.[9:15] The benefits: Access systems, tools, support, and branding freedom without the brokerage headaches.[9:48] Shift your goal from "saving money" to "making more money" by leveraging a franchise model.[10:08] How models like EXP can allow you to earn back commission splits through programs like ICON.[12:17] My realization: I was too short-sighted and restrictive; joining EXP led to more money, a stronger brand, and greater happiness.[12:59] My final advice: Unless your true passion is being a managing broker, don't open your own shop – build within a larger structure.Like what you hear?
