Why can't someone in California make the best cheesecake their family has ever had from my recipe? Them being able to make what I make takes nothing away from myself or my business. Grocery stores are using cheap products packed with preservatives and shipping them in frozen or in bulk to make food and products available to customers all the time. Amazon is doing the same with just about everything else. So customers come into small business expecting better quality for the same price, the same selection and the same availability. Cooking and baking competition shows have definitely had an impact on the industry. I have found it is making a lot of people feel like baking at home is beyond them because of the extremes they are show. It's also created some unrealistic expectations of people from their neighborhood bakery. That will be a recurring topic in my podcast.
